I guess we'll have to see how the rest if the draft plays out going forward.

The Atlanta Falcons pulled off the biggest shocker of the early part of the NFL draft Thursday night, taking Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 pick. And that stunned feeling extended to incumbent quarterback Kirk Cousins, too. The Falcons made the pick despite signing veteran quarterback Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract last month in free agency. Cousins' agent, Mike McCartney, told ESPN's Pete Thamel that the Falcons only notified the QB that they'd pick Penix while the team was on the clock. McCartney said there is frustration and confusion coming from Cousins' camp because Atlanta did not use its first-round pick to make the team better in 2024. Instead, the Falcons used their selection on Cousins' apparent successor before Cousins played a single down for the team. McCartney said Cousins understands the business of football and is ready to move on, but there was indeed surprise about the Falcons' decision.

Changing schemes and coaches I think has a lot to do with that. Instead of just playing instinctual, he's more likely having to process more. It happens. I voiced my concerns early in the season, but I'm encouraged by his stats in his starting role though a small sample. There's something there. And I'll repeat again - he should have started more games this season so the HAWKS could make a more informed decision this offseason.

BI has spent more time as the focal point on offense during his early years, so his overall stats might be better. However, we have seen a transition where that is no longer the case as will be the case here. Just saying.

Part of that has to do with OO's development since being drafted. Not only in the games he has missed due to injury, but the offseasons he has spent having to rehab vs working on his game. It all adds up. Can't forget 3 coaches as well.

I hoped he would be, but Bam's offensive versatility far outshines OO. He's also strongerand tougher (and this is not me saying we should trade OO or he can't get to another level).

He's already making more than Murray next season alone. So ee know that going in: $36 mil vs $25 mil. The question is are they willing to almost double the Murray cost in the following seasons.

So do you thinks the Hawks will want to and should they sign BI for $50 mil? If the Hawks aren't willing, then the trade is essentially for Nance ($11 mil next 2 years) and #21 (maybe)?

He also has to want to come to Atlanta. A reminder:

Growth isn't always linear, especially with a new system. OO said during his exit interview "said when he came back from injured toe the first time, the defense was different - Quin had him hedging which was something he has never done"

I checked his boxscore for both games...my word.

Same. I kept saying we needed to see what we have in OO as a full time starter this season to make a more informed decision in the offseason, particularly with his extension kicking in.
