  1. A team can not go consecutive years without a first round draft pick. Brooklyn had no first round pick this year (2012). So, as things stand right now, 2014 is the earliest Brooklyn can include a first round draft pick in a trade.
  2. Some posters were wanting to trade our #11 pick for Haywood !!!!!
  3. If Speedy is healthy, he will be the starting PG at the beginning of the season. Law will get increasing minutes and exposure to game conditions and players. If Speedy falters or gets injured or the team is going nowhere and Law is playing fairly well off the bench, Law will start. At that point, it will be Law's job to lose.
  4. Best: Amare or Howard If no trade(s): At #3: Horford first, Yi second At #11: Conley, Law or Stuckey
  5. ... and it'll only get worse tomorrow.
  6. The Hawks can not trade both the #3 and #11 picks without getting back a first round pick this year or for next year in the deal (or in one of the deals if two separate trades involving the draft picks are made).
  7. Dated 5/27 1. Durant 2. Oden 3. B. Wright 4. Hortford 5. Noah 6. Conley 7. Brewer 8. J. Wright 9. Hawes 10. Yi 11. Law 12. Green 20. Crittenton Maybe we need to start talking to Seattle now - just in case ???
  8. I believe both the 3rd and the 11th can be traded AS LONG AS the Hawks end up with either a first round pick this year or next year. Cannot go two consecutive years without a first round pick of some kind and (as mentioned before) doesn't have to be your own.
  9. How critical is getting a potentially good PG this year ? When I see people post that we can get Law at #11, I think they are looking at mock drafts and basing their decision on them. In a draft that has few decent PG prospects (Conley, Law and maybe Crittenton) I think Conley and Law will be gone by #11. And it is possible that Crit will be gone too. Especially if he has good workouts. There's Portland willing to trade with any team that drafts Conley. Jack doesn't have to be part of a deal - meaning a team that doesn't need a PG could draft Conley and trade him to Portland. Memphis and Milwaukee are teams that may draft a PG. And there's always the possibility of a team trading up in front of #11 to pick a PG. Is it worth gambling to see if a PG will drop to #11 ? Even if we get a "value" pick at #11, but draft no PG or C, wouldn't it be another considered by most as just another "wasted" draft ??? And some would say we could always trade the "value" pick at #11 for a decent PG. Well, maybe we can and maybe we can't (or wouldn't). Is it worth the gamble ?
  10. You're assuming Memphis doesn't pick Conley at #4 ...
  11. Hawks don't pick a PG at #3. Memphis picks Conley at #4. Bucks picks Law at #6. Either some team between #7 and #10 or some team trades up before #11 and picks Crittenton. Conley, Law and Crit are gone before #11. Could happen. What now ?
  12. Ban him to this new forum where he can argue and rant and rave and cuss and insult continuously. Similar to what he does on HawkSquawk with the difference being he would be the only one allowed to post in the new forum.
  13. If the court said this past summer, the Hawks couldn't sign a free agent for longer than 3 years (along with not going over the salary cap), then what chance do the Hawks have trading for a player with 4 more years on his contact after this year ?
  14. If Indiana lands a top ten pick this year (2007), what happens to the pick the next year (2008) ? Is it still top ten protected ? If not, then what ?
  15. The Hawks do not need Gasol that bad. Gasol is not a legitimate center. He is more of a PF than a Center. He can play Center some because he is around 7-1 / 240 lbs. He is very good offensively, but is not supposed to be very good defensively. The Hawks do not need another defensively challenged big man.
  16. Ramblings: The Hawks will win just enough games to finish with the fourth or fifth worst record. The ping pong balls won't go our way either. Phoenix will get the fourth or fifth pick. It will be a repeat of 2005 where a few useless wins (at the end of the year) probably kept us from getting Dwight Howard. Both pro-tankers and non-tankers will be unhappy and each side will blame the other of making it happen. Most posters will moan and groan that a few meaningless wins cost us Oden, Durant, Noah or some other really good player. Which will be true. The Indiana draft pick will not mollify anybody. Since most on the message board have to blame someone, the last player playing badly will be the message board scapegoat. BK is always available too for a scapegoat. The Hawks will not make a major trade by the deadline. Probably because the same guidelines for a free agent last year would be in effect a trade: Must stay under the salary cap (not a problem) and incoming player can not have contract any longer than 3 years (biggest roadblock). No one player is the problem. BK is not the problem. TIME and PATIENCE is the problem - no one has any. Constant losing is hard on the team and on all HawkSquawk posters, but the best thing for the Hawks to do this year is to lose enough games and get a top three draft pick. This is the year to do it. But I don't think it will happen. Too many teams have a head start on tanking - I mean losing. So the Hawks will continue to be mediocre for a while.
  17. Posted by Downtown at 11/11/06 2:52 p.m. Gotta go to work tonight so I won't be catching the game. But I watched the Hawks and Raptors last night so here's my quick review on them. First off, Joe Johnson couldn't be stopped last night, both inside and out. He can match Ray Allen for points. Josh Smith is another tough defensive assignment for Seattle. Can Allen and Lewis handle Johnson and Smith? Josh Childress looks way more confident and comfortable this year. He gets decent minutes and really drove to the hoop against Toronto. Zaza Pachulia doesn't standout, but he battles and fights for everything in the paint. Shelden Williams impressed me last night. Like a PJ Brown, he doesn't get great stats, but he kept the Raptors off balance all night with the way he puts pressure on opponents on both ends of the floor. He doesn't look very imposing, but he never stops fighting for rebounds and got alot of tips on rebounds to keep the ball alive and made it hard for the Raptors to get clean rebounds. He gave Chris Bosh a good battle. He's not a lumbering player for his size, that's for sure. He's quick off his feet when he goes up. Pointguard and depth still is a problem for Atlanta. Tyrone Lue is decent at best, and I don't even recall seeing Speedy Claxton. Both teams are on back to back games, but the Hawks slept in their own beds and Seattle is playing their fourth game in five nights. That's tough, although the Sonics should have some motivation after finishing strong last night. Regardless of what transpired yesterday I look for Earl Watson to play a strong game. He's a little rested and a little pi**ed off. But tired legs could hurt Seattle and they might settle for a jumpshot contest. If their percentages are off the Hawks take it. Actually I see Atlanta taking this one regardless I'm afraid. Atlanta Hawks the best team so far in the NBA? What's this league coming to?

    AP recap

TORONTO (AP) -Joe Johnson scored a season-high 34 points and Josh Smith had a career-best 29 to lead the Eastern Conference-leading Atlanta Hawks to a 111-102 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Friday night. Atlanta (4-1) moved three games over .500 for the first time in 7 1/2 years. The Hawks have had seven consecutive losing seasons and never recovered after starting last season 0-9. But Johnson is off to one of the best starts in the NBA right now. He also had eight rebounds, five assists and finished 12-for-20 from the field. When he was double-teamed in the second half he passed the ball to Smith, who scored 20 points after halftime. Smith also had seven rebounds and five assists. His previous career high was 28 points last April 15 at Milwaukee. Atlanta shot 50 percent and outrebounded Toronto 49-40. Chris Bosh had 19 points and 17 rebounds for the Raptors, who dropped to 2-3. After Toronto's Fred Jones cut the lead to two with a layup with 7:45 left, Johnson and Smith sparked a 17-6 run. Johnson started it with two free throws and Smith followed with a 3-pointer. After Johnson assisted on another 3-pointer by Smith, Tyronn Lue made a 22-foot jumper to give Atlanta 102-89 lead with 2:37 left. Johnson and Smith each had nine points as Atlanta outscored Toronto 28-15 in the first quarter. The Hawks shot 57 percent in the period, compared to 26 percent for the Raptors. Toronto's Andrea Bargnani - the No. 1 pick in the draft - had just four points and two rebounds in nine minutes. The Italian forward didn't play in the fourth quarter. Notes: Toronto coach Sam Mitchell isn't surprised by Atlanta's improvement this season. "There's a lot of parity in the East and West," he said. "The teams that are so called at the bottom have players that are getting experience." ... Johnson has played in 363 consecutive games, the second-longest streak in the NBA behind the Raptors' Morris Peterson 365.
  19. China man registers "Yao Ming" sanitary pads (Reuters) Updated: 2006-11-10 12:51 BEIJING - A man in southern China has applied to register a line of women's sanitary products under the name of Chinese basketball star Yao Ming, Xinhua News Agency said on Friday. "This kind of registration is obviously malicious," Xinhua quoted "Team Yao" spokesman Lu Hao, as saying. "It's unbelievable that someone could do such a thing. It's just too much." Related readings: Condom trademark bid gets a rise out of CCTV Yao is one of China's best known and highest paid sportsmen. The 7ft-5in centre plays with the Houston Rockets in the NBA. The application, which also included Yao Ming-branded medicine and disposable underwear, was listed on the national trademark office website and about to enter a "three-month approval" period, Xinhua said. The application comes as Chinese singer Ai Dai plans to take legal action over a businessman registering a line of condoms in her name, Xinhua said in a separate report. The brand name "Ai Dai" is a play on words for "love to wear". In July, a media storm broke after a man from China's southeastern province of Fujian applied to register condoms and other contraceptive products using the brand name of China's state-run news channel, CCTV1.
  20. aroundtl-ML-176050-ML- hawks related?
  21. I wouldn't be surprised to see Soloman Jones get sent to the NBDL. He needs to play somewhere and develop. And although he did play very well that one time, I don't think he is slated to get regular time and would be mostly only a bench sitter. He could get called up later in the season if necessary.
  22. Not for reounding or blocking out or setting picks, but because of attitude. Last year the Hawks didn't buy into Woodson's defense plan. Mainly because they had no inside presence or leadership to make it work. Shelden didn't have to buy into Woodson's defense plan because he was already defense-first oriented. In the summer league and on into the exhibition season, I think the team saw a "force" in the middle in Williams that was lacking last year. They saw Williams attitude and seriousness about playing defense and subsequently are buying into Woodson's defense plans. I think they are now more serious about learning and playing defense. And they are beginning to see what good things can happen when they do. Shelden is a rookie and has and will make many mistakes. But I think his biggest impact on the team doesn't show up in the boxscores.
  23. Chillz for Magliore - straight up ? If Magliore stays for only one year, it would be a terrible trade.
  24. Quote: "I was high on Shelden before the draft," one NBA executive at the Rocky Mountain Revue told Insider. "But after watching him here I have to say that I think I was wrong. I never want to read too much into the summer league, but every one of Shelden's weaknesses looked glaring here. I'm not sure he'll overcome them. That's not fair, but he's not going to grow or get more athletic and that was what was holding him back. I don't think he has the craftiness in his game to overcome those shortcomings." What's an NBA executive ??? I wouldn't trust what an "executive" says. Anyway, whoever this guy is probably watched the first gane or two and made his "expert" opinion based on them.

    SNT for Al

If we can't get back an acceptable player in an SNT, then I hope we can get back at least a probable 2007 lottery draft pick with no protection. (Yeah, I know. With no protection is dreaming)
