Several league sources told Insider that the Hawks have several deals on the table to move up into the mid first round. GM Pete Babcock has coveted Dan Dickau and Jiri Welsh, among others, to play point guard for the team this season. The Hawks are talking to everyone from the Wizards at No. 11 all the way down to the Pistons at No. 23.

Babcock indicated Monday that they may no longer want the Pistons' pick, indicating that the Hawks may have to go higher to get the player they want.

"Any deal we would make --- and we're talking to a lot of teams --- would depend on whether there's a player we really want when the pick is up," Babcock told the Atlanta Constitution Journal. "We don't want a first-round pick for the sake of having one."

Everyone is too trade happy over this draft. The objective shouldnt be the playoffs this year it should be championships two years from now. Jiri Welsch an Dan Dickau aren't terrible but unless we only give up Toni Kukoc and cash and get in return a mid 1st rounder and a waivable reserse or backup PG it is not worthwhile. There are only two immediate impact players in the draft J.Williams and T.Prince(underRated), Woods and Wagner are great! but just aren't ready to be stars yet.

I have mentioned several times we have three picks next season. After next season when ratliff has averaged 3+bpg, which isnt unreasonable, his trade value will sky-rocket. the LAC will be serious about trading L.Odom and we will have just enough to land him and a top pick. Chris Marcus , has the size, and in three years will be an all star center. Leon Smith and Dion Glover will have developed.

Our lineup will be : Marcus/SAR/Odom/Johnson(Slim)/JT

w/ Glover/L.Smith

maybe Nazr and Newble (some FAgent PG)

This team could Compete. But more importantly being patient will payoff because if we dont want Odom we can go after any number of players. And if Marcus isn't " The goods" we can draft any number of players. But hopefully someone who will make an immediate splash.

PS J.Vaughn is good but the contract is just too much, when

backup PG are a dime a dozen nowadays.

CC and Hendu have to go maybe we'll get luck and Hendu will opt out of his contract in 2004, but considering his market value it is unlikely
