Subject: Showing Some Truly Forward Thinking

I can take my self-imposed summer Pacer blackout knowing that the Pacers are single-handedly redefining the traditional positions of basketball. The signing of Maceo Baston, a 6-9 forward, the pursuit of Al Harrington, a 6-9 forward, the top draft pick of Shawne Williams, a 6-9 forward, and last year's top pick, Danny Granger, a 6-9 forward, and practically every other new addition a 6-9 forward, plus or minus an inch or so, all point to the fact that the Pacers have decided to become a team of forwards. We even picked up a couple of forwards just so we could practice waiving them later. J.O is really a power forward. Jeff Foster plays like a forward. David Harrison could slim down and be an uber-magnum forward. The Pacer team positions are now point forward, power forward, post forward, wing forward and pure-defensive-specialist forward. This is pure genius. I just hope Jamaal Tinsley or Sarunas get some time on the floor so we don’t have to cringe watching these guys bring the ball up the floor.

Well to be fair to Indy - JO and Foster are considerably better in the paint than what we had last year...and now they will have AL who at least has an offensive post game.

One could make a similar arguement and most current EC teams other than the Heat...but it's kind of a stretch to compare JS/AL/Zaza to AL/JO/Foster, and another consideration is their superior depth at the big.

I'm not saying they'll be world beaters in the paint next year but I would imagine they will hold there own pretty well.

I'm not sure why you're being cynical but this is the direction of every team in the league. Seems like the only people on the planet longing for 7' 300lb centers are on this board...the game is changing. Like BK or not, he's put us in the right position in terms of how the NBA has evolved...
