Jeff Denberg of the AJC reports that a handful of young Hawks players, including rookie Dan Dickau, will join forces this week with a group of free agents to prepare for their appearance in Shaw's Summer League in Boston July 15-21.

Coach Lon Kruger will start with 19 players today and pare down to workable numbers by Sunday. He is taking three of his young returnees -- DerMarr Johnson, Chris Crawford and Dion Glover -- to Boston, as well as Dickau, who is expected to sign a standard three-year rookie contract this week. As the 28th pick, he is slotted by rule at $671,000 for 2002-2003.

Also, Denberg updates the status of Theo Ratliff and Ira Newble, and also tells of the other who are attending the Hawks camp, including former Gator standout Udonis Haslem.

At least we know that he will be signed, but for how much?

I still say that giving him a Crawford contract would be a mistake, and that anything more than a 2 year, 2 million dollar contract would be violating the laws of replacement value.

Still, it will be nice to see Ira back, and I hope he is going to improve...
