Infinity and Beyond!

In truth 'Infinity' is a concept that we humans have a pretty hard time with on a logical/mathematical basis. Infinity means never ending. Just as we can never find the smallest particle (if we did we could just cut it in half and start all over again) we can never reach infinity.

An example: Let's say there are great strides at NASA in the next few years. Let's say they come up with a revolutionary power source that can power a space ship past the speed of light. Lets also say that doctors find a substance that makes humans immune to the aging process and life sciences folks come up with a way to totally recycle our food (input/output). So we launch an exploratory space ship with the goal to reach the end of the universe. How long would it take?

Well if the concept of infinity is correct - we would be wasting our time. Sure our Explorer would pass many Planets, Stars, and even Galaxies...but in the search to reach an end - we would make zero progress no matter how fast we went or for how long. We could go a gog-zillion miles and it wouldn't matter...it wouldn't be as much as a drop of water in the ocean.

..and if we did advance so much over future centuries to make a spaceship that could go billions of light years per hour...and did reach the end of the universe...what would be on the other side?

Just something I have wondered about from time to time when I'm not bashing BK. :magnifier:
