Teague is back!

Backup point guard has been a sore spot for the Atlanta Hawks throughout the season, but early Thursday afternoon, they solved it by trading for ex-Hawk Jeff Teague, who had played the last two-plus seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

As ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports, the Hawks will send Allen Crabbe to the Timberwolves in the deal, which will bring back Teague and forward Treveon Graham. Teague has appeared in 34 games for Minnesota this year and has been mostly a backup, the same role he’ll assume in his return to Atlanta. Graham has the very rough outline of a 3-and-D wing, but is shooting 24 percent from 3 on the season after shooting under 30 percent last year, so he’s far more D than 3 at this point.

Teague makes $19 million for the 2019-20 season and will become a free agent this summer, along with Graham, who makes $1.65 million. Crabbe was on an $18.5 million expiring contract, so this move neither adds nor subtracts from the Hawks’ long-term financial flexibility.

Atlanta will not have to make any further roster moves in order to complete this trade, as they already had an open roster spot.

Stay tuned.
