Atlanta Hawks - Tuesday afternoon Terrell Brandon - from TB's Place, the store he owns in northeast Portland, Oregon - broke down in tears multiple times as he announced his retirement from the game of basketball. Brandon hadn't played in the NBA in almost three years due to a degenerative knee injury and many seem to have forgotten just how good Brandon used to be.

The Hawks-Thrashers sale inched closer to completion: The NBA owners' advisory finance committee has forwarded the deal to the full board of governors with a recommendation that it be approved. "[The vote] should be completed in a couple of days," said NBA spokesman Tim Frank.

The buyers cheered the news that the finance committee recommended approval. "I'm very gratified by that," Bruce Levenson said. "I know some of the members of that committee. I know how thorough they are. I am gratified that after they gave [the deal] thorough consideration they reported it out with a recommendation that the full ownership body accept it."

Said Belkin: "We've kind of been here at the starting line for a long time, and we're really eager to get going, and we feel we're finally going to be let loose to really make an impact on the organizations, so I'm just excited and rarin' to go."

Still no word, though, on when the NHL will send the sale to its owners for a vote. NHL lawyers were still working through several legal points Wednesday. The deal requires approval of both leagues."

So if the deal requires the approval of both leagues even if Stern approves of the NBA deal does that mean Belkin and Micheal Gearon JR have to wait before they can start putting their ideas into the Hawks plans?
