Guest Walter
if ownership isn't happy after their huge investment something may have to change. No doubt somebody's feet are over the fire if we don't win 20 games. Except according to you. Woody could lose every game and still keep his job. Sigh. tmac13
If we only win 13 games again Woody should be, and would be fired..The owners have put themselves out to help BK get the players he wanted and 13 wins will not be acceptable to them this year..I truely think we have to at least double our win total for Woody's job to be safe..As a matter of trivia, tell me any coach, in any professional sport that has won less than 30 percent of his games in his 1st 2 years that has NOT been fired?..I can't think of any regardless of how bad the teams were.. thesource966
If Woody doubles his wins next season then his winning % for the first two years would be only 24%. He would have to win 36 games next year to make it over your 30%.
thesource966
I can think of one in recent memory: Don Nelson in his first 2 years as head coach of the Mavericks went 34-132. 1997-98 20-62 1998-99 14-36 The year was short but it still counts. Giving him a total in his first two years as head coach a record of 34-132, thats 25.7%. As you know he continued to coach the team for more years. 1997-98 Owner: Ross Perot, Jr. General Manager/Head Coach: Don Nelson Assistant Coach: Donn Nelson Assistant Coach: Scott Roth Assistant Coach: Charlie Parker Trainer: Roger Hinds Assistant Trainer: Steve Smith Assistant Strength Coordinator/Equipment Manager: Chad Lewis Players: Martin Muursepp #13 Ace Custis #42 Chris Anstey #11 Eric Riley #50 Shawn Bradley #44 A.C. thesource966
How about Bill Fitch in his first 2 seasons in cleveland. 1971 CLE 15-67 .183 1972 CLE 23-59 .280 That is a record of 38-164, thats only 23%. As you know he went on to coach many more years and never had a winning season until his six with the cavs.
tmac13
Ok, I stand corrected, you have found 2..In the history of the NBA, you have found 2..Both are legendary status types..I am willing to wager that Woody will not be treated as kindly.. thesource966
I have found 2 and could find more, how many would you like? And that is just the NBA, you said all professional sports.
tmac13
Find me all you want..You might find one or 2 in pro football, no chance you will find any in baseball..I admit, I was mistaken, but I stand by the overall point, if we don't double our win total Woody will and should be fired.. thesource966
Allow me to prove you wrong again, NY Mets 1962-1965 Manager Casey Stengel 1963 51-111 .315 1962 40-120 .250 Combine first two seasons 91-322 thats 28%. I had to dig a little bit deeper for that one, since its rare a MLB team wins less than 30% of its games. http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/teams/history/NYM But I must agree with you that Woody needs to double his wins to keep his job, which I think he will do. tmac13
Alrighty then, I am sure glad you proved me wrong so much, makes me happy for you..BTW, What I said was 30 percent in his 1st 2 seasons, not 30 percent combined..Anyway.... thesource966
You posted a trivia question and I gladly answered it, that baseball stat was the best I could find.
Sage11
I say 26 to 30 wins with the people we have brought in. I do not anticipate a playoff appearance, but I will be upset over another 13 win season. A double is not unreasonable to expect.
