  1. He's also a rebounding beast. I think I can live with a few turnovers at the beginning of his career if he's close to a double-double every night.
  2. If we hadn't made that trade, we'd have Diaw (or not; we'd probably have let his sorry ass go by now) and Rajon Rondo to show for it. Yeah, that would really have pushed this rebuilding team to the next level.
  3. Quote: Quote: Quote: Let's just stick with what we have and watch it grow. ding ding ding, we have a winner. Maybe not? Why not keep our guys and still get Kobe? Kevin Durant? or a Josh Howard? I think Joe Johnson is the odd man out right now for the Hawks. He doesn't hustle and have that desire to dive around and get his shirt untucked every now and then. We made excuses in the past about his ball hogging, because he was the only option. He's still doing it! You can't bench the guy, because of all the hype that came during his trade to the ATL. So the best remedy to rid ourselves of Joe is to trade him. Kobe is the same player, but hustles more and is a better scorer. I would offer Joe and any of the guys that haven't contributed this year like Speedy, ZaZa, Shelden, and the other rif raft and start trading away 1st round picks. Start with our 2009 first round pick and keeping going up. I would trade away the next 5 to 7 first round draft picks (2009-2016) along with Joe Johnson for Kobe, Durant or a Josh Howard. Adding anyone of those 3 guys would give us a better team now and in the future. We wouldn't need those 1st round draft picks, because free agents would want to play with our strong young core of players! I know Durant seems like a long shot, but if the Bulls came to the Hawks right now and said give us Marvin Williams and Josh Smith and we will give you our next 7 first round draft picks. I would make that deal. I would be willing to sacrifice another 4 or 5 years of bad basketball in Atlanta, to have 13 first round draft picks in the next 7 years. I know we have went through our growing pains already and would be harder for us to do, but the Lakers and Seattle both seem like they want to rebuild now. Huh?
  4. Maybe I'm misinterpreting the point of this thread, but when was it a bad thing for an offensive player to rely on a picture perfect form jumpshot?
  5. Yeah, I can't believe a rookie in his first 4 games in the league hasn't been able to shutdown Jason Terry, Chauncy Billups, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash.
  6. I love how after each Hawks win a columnist from the AJC puts a negative spin on things. What a paper.
  7. I'm not really understanding how a lottery pick PG with the reputation of being a monster in the clutch can't sniff the court in the 4th quarter, even when the team is in desperate need of a boost. Woodson's devotion to Lue is bordering on Jim Mora-Jason Webster territory.
  8. Sounds great. Horford played exactly as advertised. Shocking, I know! Would have liked to see him dominate the boards a little more, but overall that's a very impressive debut. I'm very happy. I like that Law was looking to set his teammates up. It sounds like he might have had to force a few shots up to beat the buzzer? Anyway, I'm not concerned about his shooting. Every shooter has games where his shot doesn't fall, even in SL. It'll come to him.
  9. I think of all of our players, the one who would most benefit from playing with a quality PG is Marvin. I realize that's kind of ironic.
  10. Not to get completely off topic here, but after the All Star break, when his hand was closer to 100%, Marvin shot just under 46% from the field. That's comparable to the fg percentages of Kobe Bryant, Michael Redd, Vince Carter, Joe Johnson, etc., and better than those of Gilbert Arenas, Ray Allen, Allen Iverson, Paul Pierce, Tracy McGrady.
  11. Well, going by summer league stats, it appears Portland really blew it by picking Greg Oden over Spencer Hawes.
  12. Horford averaged more points per game than Noah last year, so I'm not really sure what you're getting at there. Donovan himself said Horford was a better pro prospect than Noah a year ago. Nobody's knocking Donovan's system by pointing out that Florida relied on offensive balance to win, therefore individual statlines don't mean much. Look at almost any player's stats from a deep and balanced college team and you won't find too many 20+ ppg players. The fact that Horford didn't have to carry the offensive load all alone for Florida doesn't mean he won't be an effective scorer in the NBA.
  13. Artest is still talented, but he shoots a low percentage from the field, and he'll join a team that starts 4 gunners who don't play a lick of defense. And they're all crazy. Great idea, Zeke!
  14. Quote: I did not mention SF I said forwards learn to read its easy. Ok I will say again for you slow I know its hard for you but try I know you can do it. Boris Diaw, Al Harrington, Donta Smith, Josh Childress and Josh Smith were all forwards to some degree. Now our sorry azz pgs were Royal Ivey (2nd yr player) tyron lue and tony delk (lol). Now you tell me what was our bigger need I know it wasnt forward thats for sure. You say Marvin Williams has superstar potential really where the hell is it ? A franchise point guard means much more to a team then some overhyped wing player. Who lacks NBA skills. This Is the same Marvin Williams who wasnt good enought to go pro after High School in one of the biggest High School drafts in NBA history. Why didnt he pro ? Because he knew he wouldnt gotten picked until late def. not even close to a lottery pick. Do you realize that Marvin Williams is a product of the Hype Machine that fans like you fall into. This guy was the same guy who came off the bench for a national title team he wasnt good enough to start. He has a good few games in the NCAA tourney and now he has superstar potential hahaha give me a break he did this vs college players not in the NBA. Marvin has yet to show nothing at all why he was chosen 2nd overall. Way to dodge all my questions too.. You've got to be kidding me. You say Marvin is terrible because he wouldn't have been a lottery pick had he gone straight to the pros from high school? Where exactly was Smith picked again? Or Al Jefferson? I think most of us would put those guys as top 5 talent from that draft and they weren't lottery picks coming out of high school. He wasn't good enough to start for UNC? That's funny. He deferred to a senior at Roy Williams' request and was praised for his unselfishness. And he was widely considered all throughout his freshman season as the most talented frontcourt player on that team, not just because he had a "few good games" in the tourney. You think he's not as good as Jawad Williams or Sean May? Saying that someone going to college for a year instead of going pro out of high school is any kind of indicator of how good they are is ridiculous. After the All Star break last season, Marvin averaged 14.5 ppg and 6 rpg on 45% shooting and over 80% at the line. The first half of the season he was coming back from a broken hand which obviously affected his shooting percentage. Now the post-All Star break numbers aren't mindblowing, but considering everyone said when he was drafted that he'd be a project and that he'd need at least 2 years before he put everything together, those are pretty good numbers. If Marvin had stayed in school for his sophmore year and came out in last year's draft, he would have gone #1, and if averaged 14.5 ppg 6 rpg as a rookie, we'd all be ecstatic over his potential. Is he a finished product? Of course not. Did he show significant growth as a player last year? Yes, and that's undeniable. The fact that his development gets compared to two players who were far more NBA ready than him is completely unfair.
  15. Of course, that's assuming Charlotte doesn't resign Wallace.
  16. I agree. Jason Richardson is not an upgrade over Gerald Wallace. At best, it's a lateral move for the Bobcats.
  17. Allen is a 32 year old SG coming back from an ankle surgery. He's also a bad defender. Lewis is a very good scorer coming off a career (contract) year, but he is a terrible defender and is being way overpaid. Randolph is a great low post scorer, but he too is an awful defender. He's also a complete basket case off the court, and he's going to a dysfunctional team with it's fair share of headcases. There's a reason Portland didn't even want him to meet Oden. These moves look good on paper, but they don't exactly strike fear in my heart.
  18. How can we know he'll never be an All Star? Generally, if a player is the consensus 3rd best player in a draft being called one of the deepest ever, they're pegging him as a future All Star. The fact of the matter is we won't really know what we have until we see the product on the court.
  19. Quote: I'm disappointed not to get Luke Ridnour or Jarrett Jack. Why would Portland trade Jack to us?
  20. He's great, and he'll be an All Star for years to come... but that doesn't always translate into championships. Look at Ewing or Mourning (before he became a backup) for proof. Can't miss centers can get you to the party, but you better have a great complimentary player to put you over the top. Maybe Roy or Aldridge is that guy, maybe not. Who knows at this point?
  21. So the Hawks should have taken Conley at 3.... and who exactly at 11? Al Thornton? Thaddeus Young? They had 2 lottery picks. If they just had the 3rd pick or could trade the 11th pick into a proven big, they would have drafted Conley. But they couldn't, so they took the consensus 3rd best player in the draft, a guy who can play the 4 and the 5, knowing they could take the 2nd best PG at 11. It's called getting the most value for your picks. How often is this going to have to be said?
  22. I like how someone we know is reliable when it comes to the Hawks, Sekou Smith, states unequivocally there was no deal in place for Amare, yet we're to believe Chad Ford's idiotic insistence that we pulled out of this made up deal. Of course he'll never admit he's spouting BS. ESPN doesn't check to see if their "journalists" are lying, so why would he?
  23. Yeah, that's what happens when you win the lottery in a stacked draft. Luck has as much to do with this as anything else. If the pingpong balls bounced differently and the Hawks got the first pick, everyone would be talking about us hanging banners from the rafters of Philips in a few years. Not really sure what the point of this thread is.
  24. They didn't want Randolph anywhere near Oden and NY was obviously the only place willing to take him on. Frye is a good backup F/C. If they just dumped Randolph, it's addition by subtraction, but they got another high character guy who's also a pretty decent ballplayer in return.
  25. On the other side of this trade, I wonder if GS is now working on trading Wright for Yi. I know they desperately wanted Yi, and considering how Yi's people looked at the draft, the Chinese gov't might force Milwaukee to trade him to a market with a large Asian population, like San Fran.
