  1. And where would Bowen get his minutes behind MW, Mo, JJ and Craw? Plus he's 38, and makes $4M. Unless he comes with a lottery pick, no way.
  2. Boy, I hope our summer drags on until training camp and we're able to bring in another "hungry FA like rio West" Sure hope we do better than that.
  3. Zaza should get 3@$15M at most. look at his contribution to a bigman starved Hawks team the last two seasons. Keep Zaza cheap, bring in Andersen 3@$9M and we instantly have a cheap, but deep front-court. Horf / Zaza Smoove / Andersen MW / Mo JJ / Craw Bibby / Craw / Teague A lesser FA and a couple league mins and we have a good looking situation. Trade Chil and Morris for a lottery pick next season and things start looking real good.
  4. Injuries or playing really well would earn Mo mo minutes.
  5. Keep Zaza and bring Andersen in. Zaza could n't get decent minutes on a big starved team the last two seasons. Why is he so great now that he needs to be paid? Keep Zaza, bring in Andersen and the front-court minutes look like: C: Horf 20 / Zaza 16 / Andersen 12 PF: Smoove 17 / Andersen 15 / Horf 10 SF : MW 30 / Smoove 13 / Mo 5 SG: JJ 32 / Craw 12 / Mo 4 PG: Bibby 22 / Craw 18 / Teague 8 That's 9 deep and some minutes for our rook PG. Add a few min contracts and it looks pretty good. Going after Chandler for Chils and filler could be good too.
  6. I do that trade for Kaman, not Camby. Take pick out for Camby.
  7. We need two bigs to back up Smoove and Horf. The last couple of seasons, we only had Zaza and he wasn't enough. Zaza and Andersen wouldn't be bad at all. Zaza and CV wouldn't be bad either. No to Solo, he never amounted to anything. MW is a keeper. I'd rather upgrade over Bibby, but we do need to bring in a vet PG. Bibby is way too one dimensional. Flip is a good guy to keep. For cap reasons I'll go with the Breveon Knight idea. Crawford / Knight / Teague JJ / Crawford / Flip MW / Mo Smoove / Andersen or CV Horf / Zaza / ......Morris That's a ten deep plus a rook rotation.
  8. I'd take Kidd over Bibby at any point in their careers. Bibby was a total liability on D and on O he only brought the three. He had an almost two month period before the end of the season where he wasn't contributing squat. Didn't exactly shine in the playoffs either. Bibby is by no mans the worst you could do, but he's also very far from the best you could do. Kidd over Bibby anytime.
  9. I agree with ya. The Hawks have a good mix. I love the youth and the team spirit. But, I also see a problem. When JJ came in, he came to a team of kids, that had had no taste of winning and he set about becoming an all-star, with Woody's full support. Why Woodson would buy into that kind of "I" coaching, I don't know. Due to Woodson coaching and JJ's ego, we have an iso Joe offense that is very easy to shut down. Problem is, the team has grown up. Before JJ got here, Smoove was the alpha-Hawk. I think that is the root of the JJ/Smoove issue. The root of the Woody/Smoove issue is that Smoove doesn't particularly appreciate the iso joe situation. What's the solution? Trade Smoove, JJ? I don't know. I'm also worried about breaking up the family and switching major pieces. I like both JJ and Smoove. i'd love to see JJ lose the prima-donna, ego driven attitude that has him neglecting his teammates and stunting the teams growth and potential. Is it JJ's fault? Yeah, a little, but he's a product of a hero worshipping culture, it's very difficult to know better when so many forces are pushing in another direction. Cue Woodson. His coaching seems simplistic and unsophisticated at best. Basically, it's play D and that's it. He expects D, but I have'nt seen much Defensive brilliance in the coaching either. No adjustments, no solutions...nothing. Why is Woodson still here? What is he bringing? We have one of the best young core's in the league (for the past two seasons), but our team is uninspired and unimaginative. Keep the players, lose the coach.
  10. I see another Bball fans Bball brain has turned to mush after watching Woodson's offense. Worst thread idea ever.....unless he's being sarcastic, then Bravo.
  11. Don't know whetther to laugh or cry. No wonder Sund needed a year to get to know the team. He didn't need to get to know the players, he needded to get a feel for the ASG and he looked at film of Woodson's coaching and the team's progress and said; "I haven't figured Woodson's coaching out yet. It must be good because the team improves every year under him". A year later and Sund still doesn't know what the heck's going on. A year of closely watching Woodson's O has rendered him a complete Bball vegetable. he doesn't have a clue about who to draft because he doesn't know what Woodson is doing. I'm not so sure about JJ's integrity, because as he left the room, Sekou heard him mentin to Dominique; "one more year of iso joe and I'll get another max deal for sure, thank goodness it'll be with another team, I can't take Woodson and the ASG anymore and all those teammates that expect me to pass the ball, they just don't know anything about Bball". Then as they walk off Sekou walks up to them and says "I think you guys are right, you the man".
  12. did you expect him to say: 1: No, you can't win without a SStar. We're screwed. 2: Al's no C,we should plug Zaza in at starting C and put Al at back up PF. 3: Law is a joke, I can't belive that BK drafted him. What're we gonna do? "We're doomed"
  13. If the plan is to trade Smoove, the contract that Sund gave him nine months ago with the trade kicker makes him (Sund/Hawks) look very stupid.
  14. Sign DA, let Bibby go, bring in a younger guy that fits better then change some of the offensive emphasis to the inside. Sounds like an easy solution to most of our problems. JJ's contract situation is the big one.
  15. I agree 100%. Andersen would bring the things to the front court that are missing, including his passing out of the post. He would help to make Smoove and Horf in limited minutes look good at PF. I also like the Hansbrough pick. That would be an awesome PF/C rotation of four. Also like the FA PG idea. Sessions, Felton and a few others could look good. bibby is just too much of a liability and his age/contract status doesn't look good. Another shooter and we're in business.
  16. You need only look at the runs the team pulled off at the beginning of the last two seasons to see how well they do in an up-tempo mode. Once Woodson got them under control and into his iso, half-court scheme, they became very average. No team in the NBA has the combination of Speed, size and athleticism that the Hawks do. Why the Hawks feature a half-court, back-court, three point orientated offense, I don't know. Perhaps that's why Smoove always wants to take off up court with the ball; he knows if he gives it to Bibby, they will slow it down, go into the half-court and work an outside shot. There should be one point that shouldn't even need to be discussed anymore; Woodson is a terrible coach for the Hawks (probably for any team).
  17. Shelden is yet another Hawks youngster to get derailed by the Woody express. For a coach to get nothing out of him as an inside presense is terrible. He was part of the Bibby trade that helped put us in the playofffs. I geherally prefer to maintain the youth movement and look for a championship in the next two, three, four seasons.
  18. Got to get more from Memphis. They have #27. Would that pick even things a bit. I still don't do it.
  19. I'm surprised about the debate. Acie has not been given the chance that he should have been given. Woodson is a totally inept offensive coach. It is totally his reponsability to effectively use the talent that is given to him. His, if you don't make me happy I'll bench you and stunt you're developement to the over-all detriment of the team. Please don't give in to the mediocrity mentality. Expect the ASG, GM and coach to excell. It seems that they rationalize their mediocrity and little by little fans lower their expectations. Law is at least as good as the third or fourth PG in this draft. We probably won't even get the third ot fourth best PG if we go that route. Bring in a vet and give Law the back up minutes; a steady 20 a game, then we will be able to pass judgement. I know Woodson is a joke, I still think Law can be an effective PG in the NBA. We need a C. Exchange Bibby for a better dishing, defending PG and get the big that we need. There is work to do, but a very good young core. I'd worry about the C and JJ situation before writting off Law.
  20. I've been thinking about a deal like Blatche / #5 / Young / E. Thomas I'd love to go after a package like that and see what we get.
  21. JJ got a fair contract as a Hawk. He also did a decent job of earning the $. Now, given the options and realities of the team and cap structure, I maintain my trade JJ stance. I agree that someone will want to pay him. I doubt that he gets the offer he's looking for from an elite team though. They can't pay him unless they give up a better or equal player, or unless they can get rid of a big bad contract. Will JJ go to NY or MIA for the $ ? Will he try to get paid to play on another re-building team ? I don't wait to see. I agree that if it goes to the end of next season, that someone will get him and we'll be left with nada. SO trade him now. Bring in a good PG and a decent C and let the maturation process continue with a more balanced team. I also think that getting rid of JJ and Bibby will improve the TEAM environment. JJ and Smoove are don't play well together and JJ and Woodson have a little thing together. Smoove hates playing for Woodson. We all hate the JJ iso and think the teams talent is not being exploited. Trading JJ would put Woody on an island and give the team a new hierarchy. It's a risk that I take. I'm not optimistic about the outlook of re-signing JJ at the price we want. Someone else will. Seems a smart move to try to solve some BIG issues by getting the most for him now. He is not going to get (much) better. The only thing that would help him is to become second fiddle again. That's not going to happen with the Hawks. Trade him and let the young Hawks find their identity and soar into the next few years. Keep the team as is and I bet we continue to see JJ decline and the Hawks stagnate.
  22. IF, we brought in a Kaman or another equal C, Horf and Smoove could still start at PF and C, but the rotation could also be re-worked. I wouldn't care who starts, just who wins. There are enough minutes for three NBA starters at PF / C. 96:3=32 The problem with our present rotation is that Smoove and Horford are under-sized and Zaza isn't good enough to be the C that would make the rotation work. I like Zaza, but I'd much prefer something like Horf / Smoove / Kaman / Frye (cheap sign) over Horf / Smoove / Zaza / Solo. This is doable. If we were willing to trade for Baron, I think they'd throw Kaman in. Horford / Kaman Smoove / Frye MW / Mo JJ / Flip Baron / Law plus rookies.
  23. I don't think the problem is in the Horf/Smoove rotation. Put a real C with them and you have a very good PF/C rotation. Zaza plays a role, but isn't what we need next to Horf/Smoove. Some say that Horf didn't do any better when played at PF with Zaza at C. Maybe the problem is that Zaza was not the C you need next to Horf. Replace Zaza with Kaman, Camby, Biendrins, maybe even Bargnani and I think Horf would look much better in his PF minutes. Keep Horf/Smoove/Marvin, bring in a real C to add to the rotation and sign Sessions, letting Bibby go. I think the imbalance we see would disappear. Better D, better post O and a point of attack at the point on O and D.
  24. Oh, and I also respect BK for telling the ASG to take their coach and their two year contract and shove it.
  25. Sund lost me when he came in and said "I'm going to take a year to get to know the team". He then took a team in need of one or two more role players to make some real noise and let Chil go only bringing in Flip and Mo. Mo was modiocre and Flip played ok, but is a cast-off and doesn't fit in when there is an offensive scheme. Chil was, at worst, our sixth best player. I'm also not as happy with the final result as most. Last year we won three playoff games against the eventual champions. This year we won zero against the maybe champs. First round, second round doesn't mean that much. When we met a playoff team in the second, we were spanked and excused. The ASG should sell. Woodson shouldn't be a NBA head coach. No way he should still be in ATL. I would have preferred to let BK run this thing out. He wanted to remove Woodson, he built this team. Sund hasn't done squat and sounds like he's already lost. For the Hawks (and fans) sake, I hope I'm wrong.
