To me, building around Trae is easy.  And we've done it before.

    • 2nd ball handler on the floor that can get his own shot
    • 3 and D player who can make a 3, and put the ball on the floor
    • 4-man who can defend and get his own offense ( or make the 3 )
    • 5-man who can rim protect, roll to the basket, and set solid screens to free Trae for open layups

Agree, we are not that far

    - 2nd ball handler - Dejounte, Bogi, Griffin today, Malik Beasley might be available, I would target him.

    - 3&D player, Deandre Hunter, AJ, we need 2 more at least. Kenrich Williams might be available, Buddy Hield as well.

    - 4 that can defend and make a 3, if Collins is not that guy, Kuzma or Markkanen might be, I would target them, even Christian Wood, cheap options, Jalen Smith, good fit.

    - 5, Capela is a good fit. OO is not and has good value. I would target Bamba or Wiseman or sign a cheap option as Whiteside or Cousins.

I think we are not that far of what we need, pieces don’t fit and I think main responsible is the coach, poor offense is his responsibility. I think no one questions players like Murray, AJ, Hunter or Capela, they are good fit. Bogi, OO and Collins might be more of a questionmark, if new coach (I am convinced we should try that first) cannot make pieces fit, trade them now for better fit pieces.

  2. Well, I love Trae, he is a star, a fantastic player but I think Hawks would have a similar record without him, we were able to beat the Nuggets without him and  Collins and Hunter.
I can see a similar record with a team

    1st unit: DJM/Griffin/Hunter/Collins/Capela

    2nd. Unit: AH/Bogi/Culver/ JJ/ OO

    Without any compensation for Trae.

That first unit is really balanced and capable, no weak link and that second unit only needs a SF that can defend and shoot, easy to find on a trade for Trae.

Time to open the umbrella before the heavy rain.. but sorry is what I think

  3. I think we have a good team that need some additions to be a contender. We are a good team, still not great.
Young/Murray are a good backcourt. No change
Capela is a good starting center. No change.

Hunter and Collins are good forwards, but I am not convinced about the fit. They should provide shooting , size and defense to fit with Trae bad defense and Capela lack of shooting. They are still young and can improve but I see some lack of strength on Collins that is bad for the team and lack of passing on both. At some point we could look for a trade for a better fit.

AJ Griffin and Jalen Johnson are really good rotation players with a lot of upside, at some point they could even replace Hunter and Collins, I am eager to see the impact they can have while Collins and Hunter are out. I am starting to think we could have good results.

Bogi and OO are good players but I am not convinced about the fit. OO is not a backup center for Capela, they don’t fit, we need a bigger player that can shoot, I would definately think about trading OO for Bamba. I think Bamba would be a perfect fit for this team and OO would be perfect for Orlando. Bogi is a good player, good fit for DJM but really bad fit for Trae, he is also injury prone. I see Griffin as a good SG for this team and I wonder if we could find a good SF with size for Bogi.

Aaron Holiday, Krejci, Culver are good rotation players, we lack a big, a big guy that can defend and provide minutes against big centers.
Justin Holiday, Kaminsky need to go

  4. Really good news we have added 2 players to the rotation in Culver and Jalen Johnson, they provide size, defense, rebounding and passing, unfortunately they cannot provide shooting but is important we can make stops. They are good fits for our team.

This is the biggest surprise as I thought injuries were going to have a great impact and 2 players step up and we get Bogi back, we could not have any better news.

I am curious about what Krejci can provide, I think he is a good passer and can shoot.
we just need a backup Center with size

    Trae/Holiday/Krejci

    Murray/Bogi/Culver

    Hunter/Griffin/Culver

    Collins/JJ

    Capela/OO/??

  5. We only know to do pick and roll but we are forgeting to use It and iso with our guards. There is no ball movement, our bigs cannot pass, we don't find our shooters when open, is comical to see sometimes.

I blame the coach for this, we need to find people moving, as Miami yesterday. What is encouraging is that with this offense we are able to score, we are really talented.

  6. Team is thin, we knew that, an injury to one frontcourt player was going to have a great impact, we were right.

Kaminsky needs to go and we need a real backup center as Whiheside or Cousins or Thompson, is so clear that I don't understand they are doing nothing to solve this.  Capela has a history of missing 15-20 games.

Right, so he's gonna blossom and his entire trajectory changes this year.  Next year he'll be a whole different player.  Those are the hopes that keep getting people in to trouble.

Find a guy who gets paid $9M who gets 30 minutes a game with advanced stats as low as his.  I'm honestly curious if there is any statistical equivalent to Hunter.

There are some, Michael Porter Jr, Gary Trent, Ross, Keegan Murray, Lebron, Bey, Norman Powell, Joe Harris, Vanderbilt, Advija, Gordon Hayward, Terrence Mann, sure you would have changed some of them for Hunter.

  8. Griffin continues to impress, he is the 4th best player on RAPTOR and WAR on Hawks team. The only one with Murray that is positive on offense and defense. He can play both SG and SF and he has demonstrated he deserves a place on the rotation. Justin Holiday is still the worst Hawks player.

Another positive note is Jalen Johnson, struggling a little on offense, defensive stats just love him, he is 5th best player on the team, ahead of Aaron Holiday, Hunter, Okongwu and Collins… Nobody is talking about him but our best lineup on advanced stats is Young/Murray/Griffin/JJ/Capela that by the way have not play any single minute.

  9. AJ Griffin showing he should receive more than 20 mpg nightly, this is fantastic news, an athletic wing that shots well the 3 pt and has a real good midrange game. Defense is work in progress but is not bad.  A fantastic addition.

Trae finding his rhythm and Hunter and Collins showing some consistency from game to game, still not at the level we would like, but they do not hide and show effort.
Okongwu needs to find his place on this team.

Looking at Raptors you can see how a roster is well built, several players on injuries, Trent, Siakam, Boucher, Porter, Achiuwa, Banton.  And they still came to play with athletic wings and Forwards, Thaddeus Young, Juancho, Koloko, Flynn….

Let’s imagine we have injuries on Bogi, Capela, Okongwu, Hunter, JJ, J Holiday… who comes to play? Teams have a deep bench with real athletic and strong players that can fill a gap. Of course quality drops but they still can hold his own against NBA players.

We are 1-2 injuries away of entering a losing record, an injury to Capela, Collins or Hunter and we are done. We need to find an athletic Forward and a backup C and fire Kaminsky honestly.

I had some thoughts with these three plus Trae and DJM.  We got Capela, JC, Bogi, Jhol, and next year Hunter taking up a lot of capspace.  Would be interesting to see what we could flip to add a third star.

We nailed it with DJM.  That is the type of move I was begging for us to make a year ago.  I haven't heard anyone mention this concept yet, but why not explore bringing in another guy?  We could package Bogi + someone in our front court, add a pick or dare I suggest one of our rookie contracts.  We still have pieces to make a move and keep Trae and DJM.

Everyone last year asked me, "Who could we possibly get?"  I don't know, and that's not really the point.  All I can say is I may not be on Team Stand Pat.  Unless we are clearly a championship favorite, lets get another star if we can.  It's worth a conversation.

Clearly is a possibility but I don’t see any star that may become available. Other issue to consider is that we are not as deep as we were, those moves of 3 players for 1 are no longer as good as they were as it would make us really thin, and we don’t have any picks to trade.

I think we have 10 good players

    Trae/Holiday

    DJM/Bogi

    Hunter/Griffin

    Collins/JJ

    Capela/OO

After those there is really a big drop, J Holiday, Krejcy, Martin, Kaminsky… no trade value on them, I don’t think we can use them neither, perhaps Martin. If we trade 3 of the above, who would play, rotation of 8 players wi5 2 sophomores… that is not going to work.

You started off wrong.  JJ was not available for most of the season.  He had two bouts with Covid.  He had a Glute injury.  He had a knee Injury.   He took himself to G-League the first time when TLC wasn't even playing.   The second time when Knox was getting more minutes than TLC.

It's a great narrative that you're trying to build, but it's not the truth.   Maybe you looked at March games and saw JJ on the sidelines and TLC in the game and felt that it was like that the whole season...  Sorry.. No... Didn't happen that way.

Since you want to build your Narrative around TLC..> Let's take a deep dive...

    These are TLC's Spiltes.

Notice he played 225 minutes in December...

Why?  Because everybody had COVID and we had to play Somebody.  That somebody was TLC...

O But you say.. .we could have given those minutes to JJ...

Not when JJ had COVID too!

Notice for the whole month of Feb, TLC played 19 minutes.  I mean, I know that Feb is a short month but 19 Minutes?  Damn.. this is the guy who was taking all of JJ's minutes?  But in Feb, TLC wasn't playing... why not play JJ.

Well, he was in the G-League and around Feb 8, injured his glute

    Came off injury in March.

March 12-16 played with the Skyhawks.  Was called up after that.

You're Nate.  You are pushing for the playoffs.   Do you play Knox, who has shown that he's not that good.  TLC, who is steady.  Or Jalen who you haven't seen play at all on this level because he's always injured....

Keep the Narrative going though... It's entertaining, I just hope people don't take it as fact.   It's like when I was younger, I played Tecmo Bowl and this guy kept beating me with Cap Boso (Chicago).   He'd do the post across the middle and it always worked.  One day i watched the Bears play.  Cap Boso wasn't good at all.   That's your narrative.

20 games at g league, 22 at NBA with a stunning 5 mpg, other games where he was available but did not play.
TLC played for 52 games 13 mpg, Knox 22 for 6,5 mpg, both are out of the league or almost.

Say what you want but makes no sense,  coach need to develop rookies if the potential is there, and clearly JJ has potential, we were playing scrubs ahead of him because coach was scared to do the right thing, is so simple.

    The greatest ability is availability.

Moreover, what you do in practice obviously matters.   For all the talk about how Nate doesn't play Rookies, nobody has said a word about AJ's minutes?  AJ has played 12 mpg and has played in most of the games that he was available to play.   But does anybody say anything about that. .. nope.. Crickets.

Jalen has played in every game he was available to play.. has anybody said a word about it? Nope.. Crickets.

So last year, while Jalen was oft injured or sick and took himself to the G-League twice... nobody says a word about that... only that he should have had TLC minutes.  Bullshit.   The greatest ability is availability... and What did JJ look like in practice?

Here's one more thing.  Griff Money is miles ahead of any of the last people we have drafted in terms of BBIQ.   Even Hunter.   What do you expect from a coach's son?

JJ was available most of the season, playing a lot of games on G league when TLC was playing for the Hawks.

Is important how he looked on practice, but you are just guessing he was looking bad, none of us were there. Facts are he looked really good on G league and he is looking good on NBA this year. Coaching staff need to evaluate potential and if they see It they need to invest on It, even if the first games are bad. Is very common rookies look bad at the beginning and improve as season progress. Even GS is playing Moody and Kuminga significant minutes.

  13. I agree that the sample size is low, but Griffin is now our 3rd best player on WAR and RAPTOR stats, his offensive advanced stats are insane, best on the team, on defense he is much better than Justin Holiday and Trae. His defense is good and there is no reason to play Holiday ahead of him, he should be getting 15-20 mpg all nights. Holiday is our worst player by far.

JJ is the only player with Murray that is positive on offense and defense, he is playing great and deserves some extra minutes as well. I think Nate is doing right with front court minutes although we could use a big body for certain matchups but he really needs to stop playing Holiday and start playing Griffin.

I feel like having a continuous cycle of contributing young guys is key to sustained success.  If you don't have at least two bench guys on rookie scale deals that are contributing, it's very hard to field a "high value" lineup where talent is greater than the hit to our cap space.  So unless Ressler is willing to show he's emptying his pockets, we will always need contributing young guys who are valuable pieces on their rookie scale deals.  I believe it was @NBASupes(?) who stressed the value of the 15-25 pick range because of how cheap those rookie deals are and how much value you can find in that range.  Having good players isn't quite enough when you have to pay them market.

Exactly! That is the reason why was so important to give JJ minutes last year, TLC minutes. That is the reason why is so important to give AJ minutes.

I don’t know if Hawks management are realizing about the chance we have to build a contending roster. We have 3 players on rookie contract that can contribute and are playing winning basketball, JJ, AJ, OO, that is exceptionally rare and gives an unprecedented chance to fill a roster with quality vets and build a winning and deep roster.

Additionally we have a set starting lineup, a capable backup PG and a great bench SG.

Considering the starting lineup of Trae/DJM/Hunter/Collins and Capela

    A bench with Aaron Holiday/Bogi/Griffin /JJ/Okongwu…

We don’t need Justin Holiday, Frank or Krejcy money on those positions, we need that money on a quality defensive big, like Bamba or even Whiteside or Cousins. Never hurts to have a wing like Holiday although we can fill that gap with Martin but we really need a center with size for certain matchups. Add Bamba, Whiteside, Cousins or a quality big and we can be a dangerous team. Look at the roles that  Drummond, Robin Lopez or Deandre Jordan are playing, they impact on wins.

With this roster is clear what is the position we need to look at on next draft, unless there is a cannot pass guy at that position.

I hate to add the Knicks with Randle and Mitchell Robinson but we need to be true to ourselves. Randle over powers Collins every time they play and Mitchell’s height and length gives Capela problems. Our backcourt will have to win a lot of our games.

I agree, I was doubting to incluye them as que normally win but is a problem for us.

  16. Holiday, López, Anteto bully us on the court every time and we don’t have any answer for them, no player on our squad can match them physically, we are the only team on that situation. Miami that has been mentioned as one team similar to us can throw Lowry, Butler and Dedmon, we can’t. They bullied us on he playoffs, we did not have any answer for Charlotte on the paint.

No answer for Mobley, Allen, it was worst with Markkanen.

No answer for Banchero, Bamba, WCJ, Isaac, Bol…

    No answer for Towns, Gobert

No answer for PJ Washington, McDaniels, Richards

No answer for Jalen Smith, Jackson and Turner

No answer for Zion and Valanciunas

    No answer for Embiid.

We are the only team that cannot throw big role players to slow them, everyone on the roster is going to be physically bullied.

Let’s put another example, financial, all the theories ask to diversify your investments, is like we are betting all our money in Tesla. You need to have answers for different situations.
