One thing I hope to see more of is the 2-4 side pick and roll with JC and Kev. It's an excellent counter to the high pick and roll with Trae and Clint. I saw it again last night and a few other times this year, and I wish we would go to it more. It's a nice secondary action that gets the ball out of Trae's hands and uses his gravity to open up the paint. Kev doesn't have the best touch on his lobs but his bounce pass is usually pretty accurate. With JC not having to sky for the lob, he could dump the ball off to Clint or the weakside shooters which would be Trae and hopefully Hunter, but Cam for now. But honestly, every time we have run it, it has been wide open as all eyes are usually following Trae.

What I dont like is how Kev completely loses his man on that possession. JC saved his butt. Big time. Either commit to the double team or keep your eyes on man and ball. Look at how JC and Cam keep their eyes moving the whole time, never forgetting their man. That could have been an easy 2 or FT's if not for a great play by John.

Off to Dallas. The next few games are all against teams that will test us just like Toronto. Not elite squads, but very good, talented and well coached teams. We can win, but so can they. We cannot afford another losing streak. We need to string together some wins. This will really tell us a lot about ourselves. How we fare against teams in our own weight class. Previously the majority of our wins have been against bottom feeders or teams missing their star players.

Amen brother. Think about this. If Trae and Kev can put together more defensive efforts like this AND we get our better perimeter defenders back.......AND Snell and Hill continue to give us quality minutes... the sky is the limit. We may eventually, finally see a lockdown defensive unit.

I agree. Wholeheartedly. Those boys played the kind of defense that makes you get up off the couch and clap..... as I was doing lol I am very proud of the energy and effort and IQ they played with on defense. Great job and hopefully they can build on it.

Agreed. Capela is elite as a strong side shot blocker. ELITE. And it allows John to play off of him and make plays on the weakside. When JC has to be the centerpiece on defense it puts him at a huge disadvantage.

I think some people owe John an apology. His BBIQ should never be questioned again. He is playing great basketball on both ends this season. Passing is better, defense is better, shooting is consistent. He is a complete player. So what he isn't Bam. Bam can only dream of shooting the ball like John.

I dont care if it was bad call are not, as soon as Kev got the ball on the break I yelled dont turn it over because of how lose his dribble was, and sure enough, the defender knocks it lose. The young guys have to be more aware against scrappy veteran teams. They all have very active hands.

Regardless of the score I feel like this is some of the better defense we have played. Turnovers, offensive rebounds and free throws have helped the Raptors get easy looks, but in the half court we have looked pretty good.

Trae's on ball defense has been superb tonight. He is dancing around screens with ease.

Facts. Toronto is climbing up the standings fast, though, and are now tied with us. They are a legit team to keep an eye on after a slow start to season. Gritty, tough, well coached, and balanced. Im waiting for Miami to pick it up as well and get in to the play in mix. They are my dark horse. Us, Cleveland, Charlotte and NYK are all in a similar tier of fringe teams.

In the case of Dre, Bogi, and Dunn, it is/was injury. Everyone else I feel like they are being overly cautious. And a little soft if you ask me.

They have officially coached Cam in to a trash defender making him go over every screen now instead of choosing the best angle. Going to be a long night if Donovan is going to get clean looks with no hand in his face.

Snell needs to get some of Cam's minutes if he is going to be Ice Cold like he is most games. I love Cam, but literally 2 more buckets could have won us the game. Also, I dont care what anyone says, if they would have let the defenders go under the screens on Luka, we would have shut them down. We kept going over, even when we were at a clear disadvantage to do so, and it allowed Luka to get in to the teeth of the defense at the free throw line and pick us apart. Instead of having a 29% 3pt shooter shooting threes, we gave him the mid range for free. And if we stepped up to cut off his drive (because his defender was still behind him) He was able to drop the ball off to the open man without any difficulty. It was so obviously in the gameplan. I dont like that. I want the defenders to have the freedom to adjust when the opponent catches on to how we are guarding him. Luka was living in the middle of our defense rent free last night.

And that is just the last two minutes. Let's not forget the early fouls that allowed Dallas to jump out and put Trae in foul trouble. I have never seen so many ticky tack fouls on one end while they let the opponent beat up a star player on the other. There was unintentional bias going on with those refs last night where they just assumed from jump that we didn't know how to play basketball without fouling. It was sickening and quite frankly Im tired of just taking it. I really need us to start getting fined by calling out these ref in the press.

Dallas is an ok team. Not particularly good this season. But they are well coached. And we struggle against well coached teams. They are executing their plan to stop Trae wayyy better than we are executing ours to slow Luka.

Damn coach, why is Cam going over on screens against a guy who shoots 29% from 3? Let the go under and cut of the penetration. Make Luka prove himself from 3 tonight.

Use the challenge LP. Cant let the refs get away with free points Cant let the blitz get us out of good offense.
