  1. JC, missing dunks. The one thing you do better than anyone, you are messing up. That Cavs game stench is still in the locker room, no matter how much they want to distance themselves from it. That was a gut check. We have to get some of our mojo back.
  2. Nice offensive blitz there. When its rains, it pours. (shots)
  3. Too many missed open looks. Shooting comes and goes, you need somebody to get easy offense when shots dont fall.
  4. Drinking game: Take a shot every time Bob mixes up Cam and Deandre. I swear it happens at least 3 times a game lol
  5. Disagree with the strawman accusation. I never said Trae wasnt a closer. That's not my stance, that is someone else's. My stance is every team worth its salt in this league has at least 2 stars and at least one that can get buckets in the post. Every contender has that. That doesn't take anything away from Trae. He has nuts of steel and the heart of a lion. He can draw fouls, yes. But we all have seen when he isnt hitting from the outside, it makes him easier to defend without fouling. If Trae was even just 6'3 and 205 maybe, I bet he would've told everybody to get out his way and just started posting up. Because he has that kind of mindset. But he is not big enough to do that, and may never be. So, as we are putting the finishing touches on building this era of the Hawks, the second star that we need anyway, needs to have a back to basket game. I dont think that diminishes Trae at all. He needs a running mate just like everyone else did to get a ring. Could that be JC, maybe, but coach has to develop that part of his game. Dre has the ability, but isn't consistent either. Gallo can do it, but there is a reason he is a career role player.
  6. Trae is a face the rim, shot maker. IF and only if he is getting calls, then yes he can close out games. But there is a reason the best teams have 2 stars. When Trae is off, and not getting calls, we are sunk. We need a back to the basket, double team in the post drawing kind of closer. When shots aren't falling from the outside, having that wing or big who can get cheapies down low is a huge plus. We dont have a go to guy in that mold on the roster, but guys like Gallo have the skill to play that way. Dre and Collins as well but they are more raw at it.
  7. By time we get them back, 2 other rotation guys will have suffered injuries and be held out. War of attrition this year.
  8. I wish they gave examples of these so called players that score a lot with out getting to the foul line. Most good NBA players can get you in the teens, but the guys that average 20+ are all regulars at drawing fouls
  9. Watching the Hawks in the late 3rd-4th was like watching the Falcons. I've never seen so much talent just shoot themselves in the foot so much with dumb possessions, missed opportunities, and outright cracking. For context, I could stomach the loss to the Nets, because we played well. But against the Cavs, it started not being fun to watch. It's only one game but there are some things I dont like. 1) Our star player not only vanished but he was part of the problem with poor shots, turnovers, and missing good shots. Trae is slumping the last couple of games. He needs to pull it together. 2) All of the "Vets" we have, and there wasn't a voice loud enough to wake us up. Too much money spent this off season to lack leadership. Looked like preseason deja vu 3) "We proved we are not a joke"~JC. And we follow that proclamation up with a dud? You want to make a statement, do it with your play, night in and night out. No excuses, no "off games" 4) I said this during the summer, we are missing a go-to post scorer. When games get ugly, all we can do is run more sets and throw up shots. We need a guy who we can throw it in to the mid-post and let him go to work, and get fouled or easy buckets. JC, Dre, and Gallo all have varying levels of this ability, but none would be considered as a "Go-To" guy. That needs to change if we really want to make noise as a playoff team. Via addition or development. Every champion contender has that guy.
  10. Refs called every BS call in the rule book tonight. We helped them though. Would've been nice to have Rondo and his sore right knee tonight. (I blame the staff, not him by the way)
  11. Too much self pity. Who cares about opinion, we have a lot to clean up in house. Starting with sloppy play from our All Star.
  12. God I hate games like this. We just Falcon'd this all the way up. Just completely fell off a cliff
  13. It is A litmus test, but not THE litmus test. It is definitely a trap game against a team that is a lot better than people gave them credit for. The same way Detroit was able to make us sweat, Cleveland can very well smack us in the mouth early if we arent careful.
  14. Reading between the lines. Because a sore right knee, and a right knee contusion are two different things. A contusion (bruise) while not serious, is an actual injury. Soreness isn't an injury. Im 33 this year, I wake up with soreness everyday. Im fine. Rondo is fine. He is out because we dont NEED him and they want to keep him fresh. If he had an injury, we would know.
  15. Its arbitrary because if we are planning sit guys who arent 100% healthy, then you can't expect to have many guys available. Im not saying be Tom Thibideau, but whats the harm in having him listed as available, even if he doesnt play much or at all, versus having him out and leaving yourself shorthanded in the event that Trae or someone else gets nicked up during a game? Wouldnt that suck worse? To have guys who "could go" but arent even suited up and we drop games due to things you cant plan for. Not to mention, no Rondo means more minutes over the long haul for Trae. Whose body would you prefer to be fresher come playoff time?
  16. Because we are winning yes. But, if we start struggling, specifically the second unit, you have to realize, there is no "playoff run" if you dont get there first. We are a young team trying to figure out our full potential, not a veteran squad preparing to make a deep finals run. If that happens year one of this new squad, great. But not likely. Sit him on back to backs, yes. Sit him for two (or more) games after he only logged 15 minutes, is healthy, and we are missing bodies? I can do without. There is a nuance here. He can get rest and be load managed, without missing extended games for the most arbitrary reasons.
  17. Its such a cop out. Just pick against Atlanta and more than likely you will be right. If we happen to do well, move the goalpost until you are right. Rinse and repeat.
  18. This Rondo thing is getting lame fast. We need a backup PG with Dunn out. Why can't he put in the work now and once we get Dunn, start giving Rondo all the rest he wants. We need him to play right now.
  19. Kev has been good for us. And last night was a great game. However, we need to end the experiment of him running point. We tried it again very briefly to open the 4th and it was disastrous. He can dribble, he can pass, but that doesnt mean he should be facilitating the offense. Secondary playmaker to me means there is a primary ball handler next to him at all times, and he can be a release valve, not the point of attack.
  20. Trae is playing harder on defense, but I really think this has more to do with him playing more minutes alongside starters Cam, Dre and Clint than it is him individually lifting our defensive acumen.
  21. Things worked themselves out it seems. Bogi has been bad in every start of his, but has been very good with the bench unit. Trae gets to be flanked by 2 (im going to say it) ELITE wing defenders now, which makes our starting unit way more dynamic on both ends. I still think the Collins/Capela fit is a work in progress as neither seem to be at their best when they are on court together. But we have been able to stagger them a lot due to injuries, it'll be interesting to see the big man rotations once Gallo and OO come back. We really are a deep team yall. We may be a problem this year. If Trae is a lock to get you 30 most nights, theres at least 9 other guys who are a threat to go for 20. You only need a couple of them to have great games, and everyone else can just be solid and you are looking at 120 points easy. Contrast that with Boston. Jaylen Brown and Tatum are killing it, but they have to in order to win. They have no other firepower until Kemba returns, and even then, thats it. We are the Deepest team in East for sure.
  22. I feel like Miami played possum during the regular season. They had good and bad stretches all season long, but really stepped it up a notch in the playoffs. I think we have too much to prove to ourselves and others that we can't just turn it on at the end if the year. We are really trying to establish a winning mentality and culture. Miami already had it and knew that they had it. We are building it from scratch. Thus, I foresee way more regular season effort, and overachieving along the way.
