  1. That's a good point about those previous deals, but Cam and 1.5 years on his contract is worth more than fodder to me. Unless he wanted out and Schlenk accomodated him before more drama ensued, this trade is just unnecesary. This puts more pressure on us to do another deal or else we just got worse for nothing.
  2. Until that pick is used in another trade, it's not useful to us. A non-lotto pick isn't going to play next year and we need help now. Unless Cam became some unmanageable headache behind the scenes we didn't need to trade him for such a bad return. If another trade does happen then I'll give Schlenk whatever credit deserves for that deal. but right now he looks like a fool to me.
  3. Cam has not been good this season, but if he's not on the roster we're now stuck relying on TLC or Knox to play significant minutes for us, even if Hunter can stay healthy. If he can't we're in a bigger hole. As bad as many of Cam's performances have been, I'll take his mercurial play over Knox and TLC. The pick we got from the Knicks is not going to help us on its own unless its packaged in a trade which may or may not come. Where is the upside for us? How does this trade help us win games? I'd really like to know.
  4. Just let Cam walk if he'll cost too much. This trade is just awful. We didn't get someone who can help us now, and that pick isn't gonna be useful unless you trade it. If another trade comes then maybe this move will make sense in that context, but until then it's a garbage move that sets us back.
  5. Cam hasn't been good this season, but I'd still rather have him on the court than TLC who will always be limited. I don't care how much more effort TLC plays with, we're not succesful with him eihter. I'm not saying Csm is untouchable, but if a better deal than this wasn't available, then don't do it.
  6. If we can't keep Cam, I'd rather let him walk for nothing than the garbage package we got for the Knicks. That pick isn't going to help us soon with the way McMillan plays rookies. Cam might not be the player we all hoped he'd be, but this trade was garbage. If there isn't another deal done, we just got weaker for nothing.
  7. His positive attributes are not worth a max deal. Simmons isn't a bum, but he's overpaid for what he's shown he can do.
  8. So just keep him then. He can still help us win games. If Hunter goes down, we're stuck playing TLC like a starter.
  9. The last 25 hasn't come out yet, but if he doesn't get in he'll be the biggest snub off the list. It's more than disrespectful, if the guy has a statue outside our stadium do these voters think we're clowns for the respect we have for Nique? He means too much to the franchise for the rest of the NBA to pretend he's not an all-time great. For any critique you could make he's still #16 in points scored all-time. That alone should be enough.
  10. Great ending to the game. Both rookies look fantastic and Mays was a lot better tonight. I wish OO was healthy, because none of the centers on the roster are useful.
  11. I'd much rather sign Millsap. I don't want to disrespect Lou's contributions to the Hawks, but he's not the same caliber of scorer he once was. In the worst case of emergency, I'd rather have Millsap on the court. Millsap also makes it easier for us to trade Gallo and distribute his minutes without needing a replacement .
  12. The lack of shooting from Smoove makes Collins the better player.
  13. Clearly the rest of the league doesn't think he's worth close to the max. If his agent is even decent at their job, they should be taking the Hawks' offer.
  14. That's a great point. I remember thinking we had a future star on our hands.
  15. I hope he does well in Minnesota. If he can improve upon his shooting he should be able to find a place in the NBA. This does make me wish we had gotten E.J. Onu as an undrafted free agent. I don't know who we go after as a developmental big.
  16. I agree that San Antonio could be a great situation for Markkanen, but I don't see how you can say he has more potential in a new situation than John when he's never shown it. John could attempt much more difficult shots and miss them too, until you actually make it work on the court Markkanen shouldn't be seen like he's got super high potential. He had years 1-4 for that. Now John may very well be delusional that he either deserves a larger role in Atlanta or that he could do better if he was featured on a different team, but at the end of the day, if our only competition to sign him is San Antonio who isn't even pursuing him aggressively, then it doesn't matter. Unless he's an idiot and takes the qualifying offer, what John wants as a RFA doesn't matter as far as the Hawks are concerned. The only thing that matters is what another team is willing to offer him.
  17. I don't even know how you make that comparison. As bad as Collins handle is, if we used him like a #2 option, he'd still be productive. We wouldn't be a better team for it, but Collins could put up bigger numbers. Chicago has given Markkanen the oppurtunity to play second fiddle to LaVine and he floundered. Last year when Collins had his biggest role on the team, he gave us nearly 22 and 10. You've been right about Collins limitations, but he's better today than Sap was when we signed him.
  18. John is unique, but his shortcomings do put a cap on what we should be paying him. His lack of self creation means he only gets looks whenever teammates create an opportunity for him. I'll give him credit for hitting those mid-range jumpers in the playoffs, but besides that he's not comfortable creating his own offense. That combined with his lack of versatility on defense results in a player who's not worth a max. I don't mind him finding the best offer for himself in free agency, but I hope he realizes Atlanta is the best situation for him as a player. On the numbers that have been reported, he should have put pen to paper if he had an offer for 5yrs/120m. That is a contract that shows how much the team values you.
  19. If you're referring to Tristan Thompson, he's going to Sacramento.
  20. DeRozan has had a higher usage rate that Bogi for the majority of his career. That doesn't mean DD is a ball hog, we just have to put his game into context if we're projecting him in a different role. If you give him a lesser role (which he would have on the Hawks) the volume in his stats consequently goes down. He's not inefficient, but he also doesn't provide floor spacing, which is the major criticism everyone else is pointing out. Our offense is hardest to stop when we've got shooters surrounding Trae. That's what forces teams to be less aggressive trying to stop Trae. If DD is on the team instead of Bogi/Kev, whoever is guarding him is in a much better position to help disrupt a PnR because Derozan is not going to punish you for leaving him open.
  21. Collins still has our offer sitting on the table doesn't he? I can't see us lowering whatever offer we've made, so this process for him can't lower his value. Or am I wrong about that?
  22. I misunderstood you, I thought you were suggesting a DD for Collins swap
  23. Perhaps a backup center or wing that is preferable to any of the options in free agency in our price range? If I had to guess though, the deal expanding probably won't benefit us. But that doesn't matter if we're getting the best player in the trade.
