  1. Quote: Quote: I agree that Foye is a baller. If it was 1 on 1, or 3 on 3 he is the man. What scares me about him is that he played in such a strange system at Villanova. The system is very care free and undisciplined when you compare it to other college philosophies. They alwayse played 4 guards in a wide open system. The style of play and transition to a more standard style could be real hard for him. I know his wide open game and one on one skills turns alot of you on. I appreciate his talent too. However, I am just a little worried when it comes to the transition time of him fitting in on an NBA offense. He reminds me of Stroudamire to degree with his shoot 1st mentality. Granted he is a better athelete, bigger, and better defensively the Stroudamire it is the mind set that is similarto me. I can see him jacking up ill advised shots. This will cause guys like J. Smith to get selfish too. I just don't want a shoot 1st mentality to rub off onthe team that showed so much unselfishness and tema chemistry toward the end of the season. The whole point of starting Ivey was that he was not selfish and would distribute the ball. I don't see Foye being that kind of player. What I like about him the most is his bull like defensive stopper attitude. He is what we need to guard PG's. But don't we need inside muscle more ? So it is simple. Do you think we need more perimeter scoring and defense or...... more inside defense and rebounding ? Since Coach Woodson doesn't seem to have an offensive plan other then to tell JJ or Al to shoot, Foye's experience with a wide open system is a plus for the hawks. (Unfortunately) A-M-E-N ! ! !
  2. Quote: Exactly. Which is why although I would prefer to get Foye or to move down, I will at least take comfort in the fact that Al is gone (hooray Defense!) and the fact that we've added a tough defensive presence, albeit a small one. All I know is I would pay good money to see Shelden and Este go at it in practice I've been interested in a guard all along, for the simple reason that I believe we can acquire a big via other means. Drafting small usually has a better return. That being said, I think Foye is a better fit for us than Roy, as Roy duplicates JJ. What I'd love to see is drafting Roy and trading him to HOU for Foye + ???, but I think Foye will be gone before #8. I do have concerns over Foye's shooting %, and hope he can improve his shot selection significantly if he becomes a Hawk.
  3. Quote: There's a big part of me that wants to trade down for an extra pick. It would relieve a lot of the pressure for #5 and help the franchise as this draft doesn't have much certainty at the top, but has a lot of depth relative to other recent drafts. The problem is finding a partner. The easiest way to work a trade down is having a plan with each team that might want each possible available player at #5. When the options are there (let's say Roy and Aldridge fall) we call the potentially interested teams and work fast. I think any trades that are done tonight will be because a lower team sees someone dropping and can't wait any longer. It is that desperation, and (hopefully) "fog of war", that could land us a solid deal.
  4. Quote: Quote: I didn't know you were such a soothsayer. Could you help me picking lottery numbers? Lol the lottery is something random. It's not the same as teams who have basically hinted at who they are picking. Answer me this: Why would Shelden Williams and Tyrus Thomas cancel workouts? Why would our front office feel the need to say we are targeting a big man and on top of that feel it's necessary to say we don't want an injury prone big man? Teams haven't come out and flat said who they are picking but you have to read context clues. While I generally agree, there may be a specific reason we have hinted towards Shelden to make it seem safe for certain players to drop (Aldridge or Roy), then grab them, foiling an opponents' draft/trade scenario.
  5. Quote: Foye is nice but we need some front court help. I think this draft will tip our hand as to what our FA intentions are. We may go big b/c we have some solid ideas about veteran Free Agent PGs (or vice-versa). It does appear that our prospects of signing a big are better than a solid backcourt player. All BK can do is act as if the ownership group will allow him to continue his plan.
  6. ...from nbadraft.net's "Guys I'd draft" article: "When a team has a lottery selection, it must do everything in its power to make sure the targeted prospect fits into the team's long-term plans. It seems to me that it would be in a GM's best interest to draft players that are definitely great as opposed to players that are potentially awesome. With that said, here are the guys I'd draft if I wanted to keep my job as an NBA General Manager: Randy Foye - I believe that Foye will win next season's Rookie of the Year award. It won't be nearly the landslide Chris Paul experienced, but I'm making Foye the 2006-07 front-runner. The 6-3 guard definitely has enough point guard skills to transition between both guard spots. He wasn't asked to play much point guard at Villanova because Jay Wright needed his scoring ability more than he needed his table-setting ability, since the Wildcats also had Kyle Lowry, Mike Nardi and Allan Ray. Foye has the quickness, strength, shooting ability, handles and determination to quickly move into any team's starting line-up. With Wade currently looming as the standard for other NBA combo guards, it would seem advantageous to draft the most Wade-like player in the draft (especially one that shoots free throws as accurately as Foye). Am I crazy, or wouldn't Foye be a perfect addition for the Atlanta Hawks? A Foye-Johnson back-court would be legit, especially with athletic wing players like Josh Childress, Josh Smith and Marvin Williams filling the lanes. Since this makes far too much sense, the Hawks have reportedly made their intentions clear to draft Shelden Williams, a mechanical big-man that will not fit in with the Hawks' current personnel or fill the roster's most glaring weakness (point guard)."
  7. Quote: Quote: If Head is not going to be a starter why bother to make the deal? In my opinion, if you're going to trade down from a high draft position, either pick up a second high draft pick or a starter. Not for someone who can't beat out Tyron Lue at starting PG for us. my thoughts exactly. besides roy won't be there at #5. Yes, Roy "should" be gone by #5, but who is drafting Roy? It seems that teams #1-#4 have needs and interests in everything but Roy. I think he will be available to the Hawks (or Rockets via trade). Scott
  8. Quote: I guess he'd be great as long as we could put him on the court alone with no teammates and no one guarding him. Take a look at what Rondo did alongside JSmoove at Oak Hill. They played a tough schedule and ruled the court.
  9. Quote: Quote: I just hope Belkin doesn't show this year, or I may be arrested for disorderly conduct. I can't believe I shook this guys hand last year. Eww you got cooties! No - I was later exorcised. However; I just got my premeditation documented, just to make sure my lock up keeps me away from Belkin for a long while.
  10. I just hope Belkin doesn't show this year, or I may be arrested for disorderly conduct. I can't believe I shook this guys hand last year.
  11. Quote: I think Childress has become more aggressive and does a lot of things that don't get a lot of attention. Bottom line...we play better with Childress on the court. When he was out for part of the year it was obvious that we missed him, and could have used his steadying presence.
  12. Quote: The thing about the Shelden video shows that offensively, he's automatic. I don't think he will be a liability in the post. I was most impressed by watching how after Shelden scored, he'd immediately race downcourt and get ready to defend. Think of how many transition points we gave up last year because none of our bigs got back down court. Regardless, I'm hoping we trade down and grab Rondo.
  13. Sounds great. Is there going to be an "official" party like last year? It was fun hearing about our pick before we made it.
  14. Quote: Quote: Quote: yup it should be today ... no news yet I'm expecting something like: "BELKIN WINS TEAM; SEAS BOIL; ZOMBIES WALK THE EARTH" today is 6/5/6...you are one day early Wonderfully evil - Satan could own the hawks on 6/6/6!
  15. How stiff was he on those last 2 free throws. Nice!
  16. First come first served. bedells@gmail.com I can electronically forward for you to print your own tix. Scott
  17. Quote: ... Last night, I was impressed by the way he was taking rebounds. He didn't just grab the board, many times it was like he was saying, "This is mine!" and just took the ball from anyone else who was near... I totally agree. This was the spark that got everyone else involved last night. JJ didn't lead the charge. Marvin did - on the offensive glass. JJ kept us in the game long enough to make everything else matter. Scott
  18. Quote: something tells me this guy is going to wish he could get John Edwards' PT something tells me this guy (me) is going to wish we could get *Andrew Lang*
  19. If all our young guns keep racking up the numbers they will be demanding more $$$ once their rookie contracts expire. If we were able to build a winner with some standout D - there would be less on paper for agents (like Al's) to talk about. Scott
  20. Quote: I still think Lue is a great backup, and we need a starter. I think given JJ's style, and his growth as a distributor our PG should do the following things: play good defense, push the ball as hard as he can with our young guns, be able to bring the ball up under pressure without turning it over. If we can get a true distributor, that's even better. If he can take big shots that's good too. But my main concerns are D, push the ball, and not turn it over. Lue only does one of those and that's not turn it over. I would hope that we can do better for our starter Andre Brevin Miller-Knight I hear he is on the blocks. Scott
  21. Quote: Article on ReamGM about Chi Town looking at Al as a free agent. “Obviously, they’re one of the top teams on my list as a free agent,” Harrington said. “They’re right there. This house is definitely going to be a situation I’m going to look at in free agency and if it’s a fit, I’ll be here.” If we don't trade him .. . . Isn't it obvious that he sees his best interest as being different than the team? He's had a chance to pad hi stats - now trade the guy!
