  1. Quote: John Edwards told you... There are 2 NBAs.. If only most people got the humor in this. Good one!
  2. Quote: Somebody we will recognize....could be Luke S. from GA Tech. Dude he did say GOOD! Although he is definitely NOT SHAQ.
  3. Quote: Randy Wittman could be considered as well. He wasn't a star, but he had a sweet jumper and helped open up things for a young Dominique. Seconded. John Drew as well.
  4. Quote: Quote: "I was high on Shelden before the draft," one NBA executive at the Rocky Mountain Revue told Insider. "But after watching him here I have to say that I think I was wrong. I never want to read too much into the summer league, but every one of Shelden's weaknesses looked glaring here. I'm not sure he'll overcome them. That's not fair, but he's not going to grow or get more athletic and that was what was holding him back. I don't think he has the craftiness in his game to overcome those shortcomings." What's an NBA executive ??? I wouldn't trust what an "executive" says. Anyway, whoever this guy is probably watched the first gane or two and made his "expert" opinion based on them. It was probably *former* quasi-executive M.L. Carr, or even worse Lord Belkin.
  5. Quote: Quote: BTW, did anyone else get a call from Michael Levenson selling tickets? I was wondering if he was related to Bruce? Yes, I did. I would bet that he is his son. I hung up on his ass because I keep telling them that I live too far away now but they just don't seem to understand. So he called right back after I hung up and he left a voicemail saying how "we must have gotten disconnected". Very lame. Lame in the "sleazy sales technique" sense. Not lame in that the Spirit Group has made a good effort to get butts in seats. As a season ticket holder at the lowest level, I was treated like royalty all year. Scott
  6. Quote: After Griffin's episode of DUI in Minny, that ain't gonna happen. He's a character risk to our young guys. Last thing we need. You are being nice considering it "an episode of DUI". Euphamistically, he was caught "carjacking".
  7. Quote: Ridiculously funny. I love The Onion. Last week they ran an article about Mark Prior signing a long term agreement with the DL, showing great loyalty. Good humor as we await the arrival of the Belkinator. My favorite line from the Prior article was "we believe his best injuries are ahead of him".
  8. help is on the way... http://www.theonion.com/content/node/50097...mp;special=1996
  9. nice link. I especially like the analysis of Thabo Sefolosha... "Here’s a guy who’s really athletic and can play defense. The only negative is that he’s from Switzerland, which means he’ll probably want to remain neutral instead of siding with one particular team."
  10. Quote: And who will absorb the those 18 points if Al leaves. 1st of all Speedy Claxton averaged 12 pppg as Chris Paul's back-up so even if his points don't change as a starter which is unlikely, the balance is 18-12 or 6 points. We also added Shelden William in the draft and he averaged 19 ppg in college. Now even if he struggles as a rookie, He should be able to muster up 6 points per game don't you think? Now say that doesn't happen and we have to get 6 points per game from Marvin & Smoove. Marvin Averaged 8.6 ppg and he goes up to 11ppg and Smoove goes from 11ppg to 13ppg, we have only 2ppg to cover. I think that Shelden could handle averaging 2 ppg don't you think even if he is terrible. Am I the only one that thinks that losing Al's offense is easily replaced? Any discussion about adding/suntracting a player's points doesn't really strike me as that practical. If accounting for points was the way to quntify a team, then Bernard King, Mark Aguirre, Dominique, Glenn Robinson and Keith Van Horn would be the ultimate. I'd rather have the Celtics,Lakers or Bulls in their dynasty days. No Al means more offensive effciency in my mind. There should be more ball movement and plenty of capable people of adjusting favorably to Al's departure. Al didn't always draw a double team, and wasn't always effective at exploiting it.
  11. http://www.davidandersen.com.au/statistics.html from the Herald Sun... "AUSTRALIA centre David Andersen has confirmed his place as one of Europe's best players by finishing runner-up in the Euroleague MVP award. Media members who voted for the award recognised Andersen's excellent performances for CSKA Moscow, placing him second behind Maccabi Tel Aviv's American guard Anthony Parker. With voting on a 3-2-1 system, Parker received 76 votes, which the Euroleague website reported was more than twice as many as Frankston-raised Andersen. Even so, to finish second in such an award is an excellent achievement for the Boomer, who was named the playoff MVP in Italy last season as he led Siena to the championship. Andersen has already added to his team success, last week helping CSKA to victory in the Russian Cup final over Chris Anstey's Unics Kazan, and other big honours await. Unbeaten in the Russian Superleague, CSKA is a clear favourite to win the domestic championship, while it goes into the Euroleague Final Four on May 6-8 with a big edge given the event is in Moscow. Andersen has averaged 12.4 ppg and 6.6 rebounds in 21 Euroleague games this season and, while not enormous numbers, they have been accumulated on 59.2 per cent field goal shooting in just 23 minutes a game. Andersen has also been nominated for the All-Euroleague team as one of four players in the running for two power forward and/or centre positions in the best-of team to be named at the Final Four weekend. More team success will be paramount for Andersen as CSKA prepares to play Spanish team Tau Ceramica in one Euroleague semi-final, while Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel will play Panathanaikos of Greece in the other. In beating Unics Kazan, 96-81, in the Russian Cup final, Andersen had eight points and six rebounds off the bench, while Anstey, who is set to join the Melbourne Tigers for next season, finished with 15 points and six rebounds."
  12. Quote: As long as Claxton can hit mid-range jumpers, that should keep defenses honest enough. Any threes he hits will be gravy. Sure seemed to work for "Sam I Am"
  13. Quote: Quote: He is just trying to earn a national reputation like the 2 live stews. They are his competition in Atlanta during the same time spot and they also have their own national show along with an ESPN2 show. Just typical radio wars in Atlanta. i'm not willing to waste my time and do the Dieselsearch to prove if you're one of them Rex but sheeez..... the 790 guys get blasted on here all the time about being the ATL's Hawks' affiliate and not knowing jack ish about the team. To be the Hawks flagstip station you need to meet the following requirements: * able to be heard in the 'hood (but not nec. the 'burbs) * must have one member of the staff that knows hoops (Leak) * must talk trash about the Hawks to stimulate some conversation and stir the passion of an otherwise indifferent audience. For these reasons, 790 is the perfect fit.
  14. Quote: Quote: Not sure the guy's name but he is filling in for Colin Cowherd. He is basically saying that a 5 year rebuilding plan is not the way to go because this team is losing fans instead of taking a risk ala getting Allen Iverson to bring fans in and generate excitement for the team. Says getting Speedy Claxton was a bad move since he has been a backup his career. Says there has to be a reason why this guy has been a back up his whole career. Emphasized again that Allen Iverson should have been the guy to get. Also says we should have drafted Chris Paul and plugged him in at point the next 10 to 12 years. Doesn't understand the logic behind how the Hawks are run. Says how will we ever get good if no risks are ever taken? it's John Kincaid filling in for Colin this week. you know, John Kincaid co-host of Buck & Kincaid. 680 the fan .... ATL's *worst* sports station. Fixed your post.
  15. "A Chicago Bulls mascot dressed in a bright red costume was charged with attacking an off-duty officer after driving a mini-motorcycle through an outdoor festival. Barry Anderson, the Benny the Bull mascot, was charged with misdemeanor battery and driving within a parkway. The 26-year-old man is accused of throwing a punch at the sheriff's deputy, knocking off his glasses and breaking his watch before making a run for it." From the sounds of it - Benny the Bull has the following: - Offensive game - Ability to run - In his prime (26) Besides, the Bulls already got a replacement Benny the Bull from Detroit. I'm sure we could lowball.
  16. Quote: this post in ajc was earlier than the espn news on speedy http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-bl...draft_syst.html Quote: Now that I’m done ranting about the draft let me go ahead and get to free agency. The Hawks dove in head first Saturday, offering Sam Cassell a reported two-year, $13 million deal (I was told Sunday that they actually were willing to up as high as $16 million) only to see Sam-I-Am turn them down to stay in LA. Next up is Speedy Claxton, who is younger, probably a bit cheaper per season and probably a much better fit for the future beyond the 2006-07 season. The only thing left is to get a deal with Speedy done as soon as possible, I’m hoping it’s wrapped up before the middle of the week. And then they can move on to the business that is sign-and-trading Al Harrington for some much needed help (another PG and another big). This also could be completed before you’re done feasting on those 4th of July leftovers. If so - what makes sense? Please not an awful contract from GS!
  17. NBA Comparison: Kenny Smith Strengths: He isn't knicknamed "Speedy" for nothing. Great scorer and leader. Very good athleticism. Has good range and looks to take over in crunchtime. Weaknesses: Undersized. Taller points will be able to pass over him. Will get muscled and banged around some due to his lack of strength. 18. Quote: Skaughty I thought it was a damn good segment. The hosts asked everything I thought that I wanted to know and the callers wernt patting him on the back. I mean Billy knight had to put a positive spin on things but its gonna be real interesting to see what happends. What did you think? I agree. I wish Dimino had taken a back seat to Leak, as he is the more knowledgable and passionate Hawk fan. Billy showed a more humble side (I think primarily to appease Dimino and move the discussion to more basketball-related items). Bill showed he could be responsive when asked questions, rather than being forced to be defensive of his demeanor. The best (most informative) response came after a fan posed an intelligent question about the PHX/BOS trade. Billy was very open and respectful in his answer.
  19. Quote: A couple other nuggets (paraphrased): - We don't want a guard that will sit on the ball but can't shoot - We need a guard that is large enough to play alongside our small guards (Lue and Salim) - He made a large point about how JJ was getting double teamed and still averaged 6+ asssists It seems that Speedy is out and he is referencing Mike James. Billy also siad that he probably needs PR lessons. He is clearly aware of his image, and is trying (i think superficially) to improve it. Scott Also, he said we tried to make a similar move as Boston to get a late 1st rd. PG but it didn't work out. He seemed to insinuate that we were not the prferred trading partner with Phoenix. He (obviously) wouldn't say the player he was seeking.

  21. It should be interesting, as Chris will likely force the issue about the whole "promise" concept.
  22. Mule- I love your optimism and philosophical appraoch to your posts. I'd enjoy meting you. It is good to know that there are some fans who support this team and trust those that seek to improve it. Scott Quote: BECAUSE He's going to be a SUPER -SUPER star and Hawks could have traded him for fourteen starters and some bench players plus a bag full of those new basketballs!!! Seriously, Hawks got the player they needed to fill a position where they were weakest. Now, if our new guys, both the first and second round picks, are what they are believed to be, maybe, just maybe, Atlanta can slow down those lay-up drills that our opponents just love to run against us. Offense excites fans but defense wins games. Hawks need both but it has been apparent that inside defense has been sticking out like a sore thumb. Hawks are growing, one small step at a time. Isiah has been told, "Win now or else" while we slowly press onward and upward toward being very good for a long time. Too many of us want what the Nicks want and would wreck everything for a few more wins now and to heck with the future.
  23. they both are saying the same thing about the top 4 right now (via xm radio) 1) bargnani -lock 2) aldridge -near lock 3) morrison -as jordan was the hardest to convince, but has apparently come around 4) roy (with thomas as an outside chance) this leaves us with gay (yuck) thomas (maybe) shelden and foye. i'd have to guess that BKs 6 are: bargnani roy thomas aldridge foye shelden
  24. Bravo and all- I'll be heading there, but after 6PM, probably more like 6:30 or 7 by the time I get there. I'll have my Squawk shirt on and be toting a wife and my almost-three-year-old daughter. Anybody else we should be expecting? Sebastien? Diesel? Scott
  25. Quote: oddly, i'm getting more of a feeling that Aldridge could be available if Bar goes 1st... stranger things have happened. Now how would you feel if BK passed on Aldridge to get Foye or Roy? I think I'd be pissed. I'd be fine. The choice of Aldridge, Roy or Foye would be a nice one to have.
