Hate to admit it but hes staying until an offer blows them away. Are you trying to trade him because you don't like him or are you trading him for value. From what ive read its the former. There is no way in hell I'm trading Dennis for anything less than a 1st rounder. Trading him just because "he will limit traes development blah blah blah" is dumb. We have no idea if Trae will be ready or how soon. . Let the rookie learn at his own pace then you give him the keys. For right now let Pierce do what he does with this team.

I don't care if he was drafted top 5 let the man develop at his own pace. He does not HAVE to start right away.

Uh, having Dennis here isn't the only way to avoid turning the keys fully over to Rayford.

There are any number of dime-a-dozen guards we can install as the "starter" to avoid burning through Young.  Shiiiii, Shelvin Mack is out there for all the folks that miss him.

Heh, kidding.  I don't want to see anyone perma-banned.  I mean, you'd have to be a monster to deserve something like that ...

    Oh Cmon

    Maybe a day-bann?

Dennis will be traded before the season starts.

I feel that he'll be traded as well.  Honestly, this recent anti-smear campaign actually strengthened my thinking in that regard.

Sadly, I'm expecting us to take a bad deal just to move him just like Howard deal.  When Slink negotiates a favorable trade, that'll surprise me.  I just don't think he has it in him.

My hope is that they wait.  I think the closer to the deadline the deal comes, the better it'll be for us.  If he trades him before the season, whoooo be gonna get fleeced.

It is kind of crazy to even offer the liberal arts degrees while simultaneously requiring those types of courses.  I haven't been involved with Tech for the last 15 or so years so if they have tried to remove those requirements and offer more courses and been denied by the Board of Regents than that is harsh for them.  Probably the only psych degree in the country (maybe the world?) requiring that kind of math.

It's gotten better.  There's a new fangled music-related dealy with that one guy from Jay-Z's camp which was all the rage a year or so ago.

The Board allows them to get creative with stuff like that but I guess it's against the rules for the best math/science school to offer a degree track that would help produce better math/science teachers in the state struggling mightily in math and science.

Ya know, 'cause UGA and Northwest Southeastern State College in BumFunk County, GA do enough in those areas I guess.

  5. Some genius wrote the following in the draft discussion thread ....

    Quote

Slink NBARadio synopsis care of kg ....

    - Goals heading into draft:

Wanted to acquire assets in addition.  Felt good about gaining a protected 1st and future 2nds.

    - Were you ok with keeping Doncic if trade fell through?

Oh yeah, wanted to add play-makers, focused on either Luka or Trae.  Several teams wanted to trade up.  Win/win for us keeping Luka or obtaining Trae.

    - How hard to decide who to move on from when you inherit a team?

First thing is to take a 'deep dive' into the team, what they have.  Won 60, then 48, then 42 so a steady decline was happening.  Roster was 4th or 5th oldest, most 60-win guys had left.  Was right time to his reset button.  Had a few future 1sts already.  Decided to let Millsap/THJ walk to open up money.

Looking at rest of league, there were several teams we could take advantage of since they were in cap heyul.  Will use space this summer to acquire assets this summer just like last year.  Will look to take contracts from tax teams for assets.

    - On Steph/Trae comps, Trae said it was nice but unfair, how do you feel?

Natural comp when you see his shooting off the bounce.  The difference is, Steph played 2 in college and off-ball movement is still there.  Trae is more of a 1, has always been.  Is ahead of Steph in that area at this time.  Trae has to learn the off-ball game when he gives it up to make himself more difficult to guard.

    - On hiring a player devel-focused coach?

Wanted to make sure we had a coach with that background and the ability to connect with players.  Ability to develop off the court is key as well.  CLP's ability to connect was impressive, natural fit.

    - Were around Riley, Nelson, etc. how much do you learn from them/apply?

Being around successful coaches/execs all had different styles.  Take away effort/time they put into jobs.  Be who you are.  Players know when you're being fake.

    - When rebuilding, besides getting right players, what the toughest part?  Is it having the owner believe in process, fans?

Making sure you don't shortcut.  Decision (to tank) is made.  Mistake is getting impatient.  Keeping owners/fans engaged is most important.  Getting guys out in community helps but fans just want to be told the truth.  Going to keep bringing in good pros to teach guys during process.

    - Summer league expectations on Trae?

If he doesn't get 30's he's a failure.  Har Har Har.  Just want to see young guys start to build chemistry.

    - Has goalpost been moved for rooks, considering what Tatum, Simmons, etc do?

It'll be tough for guys to live up to that but guys are bigger/stronger now .. all grown men and 19/20 so it'll be interesting to see.

    You're welcom, b*tches.

How many coaches are GT still paying not to coach @kg01

I think it's just 2 now, Hewitt and Gregory.  I don't think there was an offset in Gregs' deal so our payments aren't offset by what USF pays him.  Thank the former AD for that.

Agreed on Devoe @KB21.  Funny, I lamented during the draft that the list of guys set for GT before they got paid included Sexton, Carter and now Little (future top3 pick) who would've fit nicely with Devoe.

We gotta start paying dudes (again)  Oh no you di'n't :happy:.

Paul Hewitt pulled in 5 5 stars from 06-09. He just couldn’t coach at all and had an awful contract.(still paying him after he was fired in 2010) Then we had Gregory who couldn’t coach or recruit...he really made Tech irrelevant.

Now we lost Okogie so look for Tech to suck again this year. If Pastner can land his top targets in the 19 and 20 classes then I can see Tech in the tournament soon but it’s a big if.

Shii, give me Hewitt over what we dealt with in Gregory.  At the very least, we wouldn't have the consistent talent discrepancy that we face now.  Let's be honest, it doesn't take a brilliant tactician to win at the ncaa level.  Miller at AZ is a horrible coach but he always wins the talent edge.

I'm hoping Pastner can marry the two, coach/recruit.  He's done ok so far but I expect to see a jump starting this season.  And, yes, I need to see improvement despite losing Okogie.  If we're gonna be a 'greater than sum of the parts' team like Pastner claims we will be, we should see better play overall this season.

I feel satisfied that this thread has been properly hijacked, btw.

You guys have your majors where a lot of athletes get funneled specifically because they are massively easier.  Not requiring the calc and lab science for those few majors is easily done.  It is a deliberate choice not to which I don't understand.  No use pretending 95% of the guys on the football and basketball teams are there for the academics.  That is a useless fiction that hurts the school's athletics program.  Just be real and let them do their sports management or basket weaving or whatever without the calc and lab science.

Our Administration doesn't care about any of that thus, as you mention, it is a conscious decision.  As a fan, as long as you understand that, you don't/can't get too up in arms when we fail.  We go into gun fights with a bow and arrow.  Sometimes we turn into freaking Hawkeye and walk outta that b*tch with our life.  Mostly we last about 3 minutes then catch one in the temple.

On top of that, as a state school, the Board of Regents will not allow us to expand our course offerings to include dumb-arse classes like they have at places like UGA (which is where most of them went).  IIUC the reasoning is that other schools in the state offer the courses so there's no reason to dilute academia by allowing GT to have, for example, a sociology degree offering.  Meanwhile, UGA gets approved to add an engineering school.  Interesting dichotomy, huh?

In honor of Travis Schlenk, I'm not going to put much effort into treating patients today, which I would consider to be equivalent to Travis not putting much effort into fielding a competitive team.

I heard a rumor that a certain baseball player's mom has been telling folks this is the norm for Dr. KBToys.   Heigh-ohhh

That is a super strong signal to me that we won't be competing for the playoffs this year.  Thanks for the recap, @kg01!

Was anyone in doubt of that?  Is that what them other posters were yelling at you for?

Also on that point, he said STTE "How many times do you see a tanking team get impatient and go out and sign a guy to an $80mil contract?  That kind of deal hampers the organization for years."

This interview reiterated what I already thought, this process isn't close to completion yet.

Hawks fan, by far.  Hawks are on an equal playing field.  GT is not.  Understanding that makes being a fan more palatable.
