the week before football camp opens, there are all sorts of articles on the falcons and the rest of the league. but the nba is on the verge of a new year, and nary a word in the ajc or any other paper in georgia.

is there really that little interest in roundball in the peach state? or are the papers just out of it?

I bet you'll get some coverage as we get closer to actual kickoff of camp and preseason, but remember Hawks coverage competes for resources with the NFL which is in full bore, MLB which has pennant races ongoing and playoffs imminent, and NHL which is about to start it's season. Fall is a tough time of year with a lot of sports going on.

Don't forget, Nascar, High School Football Friday night

which is in the Saturday paper - Then, there's the

Georgia Bulldogs, G.T. Yellow Jackets and a bunch of

lesser games going on Saturday afternoon & Night, all

from Georgia. Then, add the national college games

every saturday.

So many things co cover right now. NBA games don't count

yet. Hawks will get SOME coverage when the regular

season starts, but don't expect much until then.

you guys are pretty generous. basketball is a sport on the rise, in this country and especially everywhere else in the world. many cities would die for an nba team.

part of the responsibility of having a major team is media coverage. these reporters dont have to be yes-men. they can be critical if they want. but to ignore the team is just laziness, and irresponsible. all these papers publish are ready-made press releases and AP articles. maybe an isolated story during the season.

thank goodness for the internet. it keeps me from going berserk. but all the ordinary citizens, the potential ticket-buyers, need the paper to cover the team. it's time for the sports editors to begin to realize what a beautiful and exciting sport basketball is, and how lucky atlanta is to have a pro team, especially one which, at long last, holds some promise for the future.
