Gray Mule
A new problem. How nice! The old problem: Who do we get to make up a starting five for the Hawks? Last season, Hawks had that as one of the big question marks. Now, we face the much more pleasant problem, who relieves who on the floor. Having players that can play more than one position will relieve much of the pressure on this one. Combination of PF/SF players that can play either position. Al Harington - Josh Smith - Marvin Williams. Either one of these three can come on the floor and replace one of the other two. There should be plenty of playing time for all three of them. Then, when there is an injury, which we always have plenty of, we're still covered. If not, we simply shift Josh Childers over and go on. Or, Esteban Batista can play PF if he's not in the center rotation that night. Joe Johnson, Tyrone Lue and Royal Ivey. PG Josh Childress, Tony Delk, Donta Smith & Salim Stoudamire. They cover the SG position. Zaza Pachulia, John Edwards and Batman - Centers. Very versitile lineup. No one is locked to one position. This looks, on paper, at least, to be the best lineup that Atlanta has put on the floor to begin a season in a very long time. Should be interesting to see how it all shakes out and how it all fits together. Then, who will we send to the NBA/DL so they can play every day? Nice problems to have and certainly different than we've had before this season.
Dragitoff
I think this will be the rotation C-Pachulia/Batista/Edwards PF-Harrington/Williams/Batista/J. Smith SF-J. Smith/Childress/Williams/D.Smith SF-Childress/Johnson/Stoudamire/D. Smith PG-Johnson/Lue/Stoudamire/Ivey
Sevin
Has Batman played any at center? I thought he's been subbing at the 4. I went to the 1st game and he DNP and I've listened to pieces of each of the others and I thought that he'd only played 4. Same with Marvin. Has he played any 4? I thought only 3. I hope I'm wrong on both accounts.
Lascar78
I think Batista is a natural 4. However, if we go into the season with Edwards as our only backup C, you can count on Steve playing some center. Hopefully we'll pick up another big man soon
Premium Member Diesel Posted October 21, 2005 Premium Member Report Share Posted October 21, 2005 I would love to see us get Christian Laettner but I would settle for Mamadou... I think the rebounding and blocking element that Mamadou can provide (if he's still in basketball shape) would be a good mix and of course we add the toughness with Zaza off the floor. What about Ekezie for Sheezie... He played 17 minutes per game and got us like 4.5 rpg. That's not so bad considering...
