Premium Member mrhonline Posted November 29, 2005 Premium Member Report Share Posted November 29, 2005 82games.com has unveiled a terrific new stat. Hawks' Ratings League Leaders Quote: Trying to build a comprehensive player rating scheme is no easy task. We'll admit to being partial to the excellent work done by Dan Rosenbaum with his ultra-sophisticated DanVal numbers, or gauging player efficency on a possession basis ala Dean Oliver. In the past the "Roland Rating" has been simply the player's on court versus off court net team influence. That's a good number, but certainly not the whole story. Ideally a player rating scheme should encompass 1. Individual player production 2. One-on-one defense 3. Team success influence
exodus
I have suspected for awhile that Josh's interior D may be better than he is getting credit for. However I think those types of stats need more time to really become useful. Certainly it is something to keep an eye on as the season goes on. Josh's defense is the underrated part of his game. 2. These stats are in the preliminary stages - they are going to revise them as the season goes along. Thanks for the thoroughly reasoned and discerning opinion. On another note, this system does pass the "sniff" test. Top 10 players = Wade, James, Brand, Allen, Artest, Ming, Duncan, Bryant, Parker, Prince.
thesource966
Ok, if that is the top 10 then where is Garnett, Gasol, Pierce, Nash, or Marion just to name a few. This rating system has major flaws.
