Boondocks
In reply to: Taxing times Teams whose player payrolls exceed the luxury tax threshold - projected to be about $52 million - not only will have to pay the tax but also will be denied any of the tax money that is paid out to the lower-budget teams. The Bucks have resigned themselves to paying the tax and, if they do strike a deal with Redd, that would propel them even further above the tax limit and subject them to a higher payout. Redd is a restricted free agent, so the Bucks have the right to match any offer from another team to keep him. Every team in the league is above the salary cap, but teams that do have either or both of their salary cap exceptions ($1.5 million, $4.5 million) could offer all or a portion to Redd. Because of the tax, the Bucks might not be inclined to match a generous offer to Redd. Even though Redd has been a free agent since July 1, he has not received an offer from another team, which might indicate that none is coming. Redd's option Redd does have the option of signing a one-year contract with the Bucks. He could then become an unrestricted free agent after next season and seek a more lucrative contract then. The Bucks are keeping their fingers crossed that something can be worked out with Redd. "He's a big part of our personality," Karl said. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/buck/sep02/83877.asp Redd would be perfect for the Hawks, a sg who has to be defended or he'll light it up.
