Turnovers and Take aways

Speedy was picked up to be our pg. But looking at his history as well as JJ's, they both have had a hard time taking care of the ball.

On the other side of it, both (along with JChill) as some of the top steal artist in the league.

The bad:

Ranks #5 in the NBA in Total Turnovers(267.0)

Ranks #7 in the NBA in Turnovers Per Game(3.26) Ranks #14 in the NBA in Turnovers Per 48 Minutes(3.84)

Speedy:

Ranks #19 in the NBA in Turnovers Per 48 Minutes(3.66)

The Good:

JJ

I think Speedy & JJs TOs will go down, since they are playing in the same backcourt neither will have to hadle the ball as much as last year...I think the JJs ballhandling will actually help Speedy be more effective, at least that is what I am hoping.

JJ's turnovers will go down because we are not experiencing with him anymore at the point. Speedy has the luxury of being the #1 man at the point. There was times he would try to do too much coming off the bench and turn the ball over.

Speedy attacks the basket a lot so some turnovers are inevitable. Any guard that attacks the rim regularly has high turnovers. Tony Parker averaged over 3 turnovers a game.

JJ had a lot of turnovers because he simply was forced to do too much ball handling. With Speedy he won't have the ball as much and teams won't be able to press the Hawks as much. I expect JJ's turnovers to go down significantly.
