Gray Mule
AAAAH!!! That's better. Some of the things, but not all, that worries all of us here on Hawksquawk - - In fact, drives us up the wall. The ownership of the Hawks. What a mess. Wouldn't it be nice if, somehow, this could be settled and let the Hawks get on with the business of being a legitimate NBA team. As things stand, who can make a move without fear of it exploding. Many want the GM to be fired. Probably would set well with some of the ownership. Who would replace him? Could the ownership, as it is set up now, agree to the replacement. Same for the head coach. Fier either or both and it's back to court to decide on a replacement. Do we REALLY want a judge to decide this?? Ouch. Then, there's the appeal of the decision. I can see us trying to make a go of it without leadership of any sort, good or bad, while the judge ponders on this. Then, we worry about the draft. Will we be able to hang on to one of the top three, or do we loose this pick? THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER DRAFT LIKE THIS ONE!!! That's true. Every one is different - Different players are available for every draft. All of us, me included, are like a bunch of little kids - I WANT!! I WANT!! If the Hawks don't get the pick I want, I'm going to be mad! I'll pout! Throw a fit!! If we pay our debt with a draft pick this year, we're clear of it. If we don't, we pay next year. Either way, we MUST loose a draft pick - The pick is no longer ours. It's just a question of when do we have to pay up. Hawks have a CHANCE of getting one of the top three, which we get to keep THIS year. Anything higher, we pay off our debt. We don't then have to worry about THE NEXT draft. We're hopeful of having a pick around 15 (Top 10 protected this year) but we don't have a 100 % guarantee of THAT pick yet. If we get that pick, rest asured that, whoever the Hawks pick, it will be the wrong player by some. So relax. Nothing is going to go right anyway. DrReality
In all of the debate about the JJ trade, I think the one where BK really SCREWED UP is not making this year's draft not a top five protected one. He DID give up too much with the top three. Having one of the top five picks would make this a totally different draft for us. Oh well . . . . . However, the big question in the trade was how good was JJ? And in that way, the trade delivered big time. Worst case scenario would be #4. Currently projected by some to be Horford. We would probably take Hibbert or Conley. So then the question is would you trade JJ for Hibbert, Diaw, and Sergio Rodriguez. I still would any day of the week, but it's frustrating that even when BK gets something right (seeing the potential in JJ), he manages to screw uppart of it. There have been no total homeruns, except for maybe Josh Smith.
scottt
When factoring in salary and comparable players, the productivity we get from ZaZa constitutes a slam dunk. His numbers are as good or better then Dalembert and Kaman for a helluva lot less money. And we have him for 2 more yrs at 4 million per.
Iman
I agree, the lack of restriction on the second pick to Phx has haunted us. I tend to be way in the minority in that I think getting Oden or less so getting Durant would turn this franchise quickly, but I'm not that sure that a 4-6 pick would have been that important. Especially since we still have a a 12 or so pick anyways. Two picks would have given us the opportunity to possibly move up but otherwise it would just help to keep us locked in as a very young team. The problem with your thought process remains the fact that ZaZa plays NO DEFENSE, that alone makes him non-starter material.
