The Atlanta Hawks have the third overall pick, and I'll say it right now -- they need to draft Ohio State's Mike Conley. They passed on Chris Paul and Deron Williams to take Marvin Williams a few years back, and simply have way too many forwards to draft another. Conley reminds me of a smaller Jason Kidd and is clearly the best pure point guard available. He's a winner who is marketable, two things the Hawks desperately need. And in the off chance he turned out to be a bust, people would forgive Hawks GM Billy Knight for drafting for need.

Yahoo Sports reported that the Blazers are seeking a trade to land the third pick so that THEY can draft Conley -- and keep him and Oden together. One scenario had the Blazers sending forward Zach Randolph and point guard Jarrett Jack to the Hawks for the third pick. But if I'm the Hawks, I'd hold out. They also have the No. 11 pick, and may be able to draft a big man who could team with Conley to be better than the Randolph-Jack combo.

Now, with TWO first round draft picks, as opposed to the

worst thing that could have happened, no picks, Atlanta

now has something that other teams want and desire.

Unless the Hawks do something really stupid, like taking

two combo forewards in the draft, I can see improvement

for the weary fans on the horizon.

Now the fun begins.

So many questions to be answered. Do we trade one or the

other of our picks, or both, for veterans to fill our needs?

Do we keep both picks?

Can the Hawks trade some of our borderline players, along

with other assets, and clear the roster for someone new?

We now know, without question, our Hawks are going to

look different next season. We're still rebuilding.

We should be moving much closer to the completed project.

A tractor trailer has just pulled up and is ready to be

unloaded - - What's inside? Draft picks!!! Will they

complete the building? Will they fit with what we already

have on the building site?

we would be insane to trade the #3 for randolph (don't need) and jack (need, but not worth in that trade)...i hope bk doesnt think that randolph can play center...

at this point i would be satisfied with Conley and Hawes.
