Guest Walter
In reply to:"We're not necessarily focusing on names, we're focusing on attributes," Raptors president Richard Peddie said. He added that the selection process would be as thorough as the organization has ever been through. With the Raptors in line for a top-three draft pick, Grunwald said the new coach will have to be somebody who will be able to relate to younger players. "We cannot have a situation where that person -- the draft pick -- is neglected," Grunwald said. "We really have to teach that person and help him develop. Obviously, being a young player, it's important that he gets off to a good start." There is a feeling that the new coach should also be able to come in and fire up a group of players who many felt had become complacent under Wilkens. "I just hope they have somebody who will go in there and rattle some cages, because a lot of cages need to be rattled," said one close observer of the team. "It's a country club."" ... Remembering 4 years ago when Doc was (first) available and desiring a position with his old team. The team stuck with Wilkens for a 7th and obviously ill-fated year after drafting JT and DG and signing Lo. It was a country club under Lenny (for the 28 and older crowd) then and it will always be that way with him. Too bad the powers at be couldn't forsee that and perhaps have not wasted at least 2 of the last 4 years, one under Lenny and another changing coaches, playing with Big Hog. Just a little venting, but thanks Diesel for the truely anti-Lenny link. W
