There is an amazingly persuasive article on espn.com that suggests MJ doesn't have the acumen to be sucessful as a GM. It argues that he hasn't proven he has the ability to be a decent GM, and people shouldn't just buy into the hype. He would bring fan excitement up; however, in the end, people are only going to show if we put a good product on the floor. If you read the list of moves from the article and the current state of the Wizards, perhaps he isn't the answer even though it sounds great....who knows?!

In reply to:

"Jordan doesn't want to be a GM...He want's to be the big picture guy (i.e. team President)."

Whether or not this is "better" is to be debated, but it appears that the GM role is not one that MJ covets. Too much daily work and number crunching to be fun I presume. Jordan wants to be a figure head. Given he's already getting $10 million for leaving Washington and his Nike contract likely insists he be a part of baskteball in some context, we may be able to hire him reasonably for precisely that role. He would then have a big say if not THE say in who was hired as GM and coach, something we all may or may not be able to deal with.

Question: Does MJ as team President help or hurt in hiring a top notch GM and coach?

depends on where Jordan's head is at and what, if anything, he learned as, essentially, a GM and then playing with those players...

I would have few reservations about Jordan as more of a behind the scenes sort of guy, like Jerry the last few years in LA...He'd also add financial stability if he were to made a part owner in that, with his money, the team might be more willing to go over the cap.

If your going to hire a figure head type why not let it be Dominique. A guy who gave his best years to this franchise. He can't do any worse than Jordan. Why give good money to guy to really do nothing. Show up on game night in suit, sit in the luxury box, be photographed. But during the day, play golf, gamble and shoot the breeze with his business homies. We should let Billy Knight have the job. Somebody here said it earlier that he fleeced us twice while with the Grizzlies. What we need is some good Scouting personel to uncover some of these draft gems that the other teams are getting.
