From the sound of it, Clemen's long-time training buddy was well aware of his drug use and asked McNamee for the stuff that Clemens was getting. Pettite testified in a private deposition yesterday and then got permission to skip the public hearing. From that it is reasonable to draw two conclusions: (1) the testimony they got (which was supposedly contradictory and a sign that Pettite may be a poor witness) was enough to question Clemens; and (2) whatever Pettite said, he didn't want to have to repeat it in front of Clemens and the cameras. To that end, you can be sure it wasn't: "I have no reason to believe Roger Clemens ever used PEDs."
