It's a TEAM game. Production out of one player is for fantasy basketball.

The most production for the TEAM is Josh Smith at the 4 with Horford at the 5.

Why? Because they both should be starters and the most productive combo of the two is Josh at the 4 and Horford at the 5.

Puts both players around the basket where they belong giving us an advantage in athleticism in the front court

Here is what I gathered from you.

You want Smith to play 35 mins...That leaves 13 mins at PF...Which you want Horford to take.

Now if Horford plays 35 mins, 13 of which is at PF, that leaves 22 minutes he is playing C.

Since there are 48 minutes of C in a game, that leaves 26 minutes to the BACK-UP Center.

Now, as I asked before, please explain to me what Center we are going to go get that can come in as a back-up and effectively play 26 minutes per game.

As I said before, I'd rather just have Horford and Smoove playing 35 minutes each at their respective positions they are already at.

As of right now that is true. However to be a true contender you have to build your team in such a way to get the most production out of your core players. You can use role players to fill in holes in the roster.

If we assume that Horford is one of our core players (I do) then we should use him in such a way to get the most production out of him.

No, I am simply explaining to you why if Josh Smith is on this team, it makes no sense to play Horford at the 4....Because we will have to devote WAY too many minutes to our back-up C.

So, yes, I absolutely answered the question...As long as Josh Smith is on the team, Horford should get almost (if not all) of his minutes at C.

If Smith is on the roster, I want Horford playing Center.

It's as simple as that.

Horford taking Smith's minutes as the BACK-UP PF would mean that the BACK-UP C would be playing the majority of minutes at Center.

What do you not understand about that?

The question, since you didn't understand it the first time, was what distribution of minutes would get the most production out of HORFORD.

The reason that the team is irrelevant is because the only player that we know will be on the team is Smith. That is the only assumption i made in response to your post.

If Smith is on the team, it is best for Horford to be at C, for the TEAM...And that's all I care about.

So, then it's a stupid and pointless question.
