Premium Member Diesel Posted August 6, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted August 6, 2003 I found out that the SAR trade was something that Ford Dreamed up while Smoking some Salmon. Well, Diesel has Better dreams than Ford. In fact, Mine makes More sense. Ford's dream didn't really make sense for Chicago. So here's what Diesel Dreamed up JUST NOW.... Theo/DD to Boston. Battie/Williams/Brown to Atlanta. Why this dream works for Boston. Boston gets a Legit C who can be a help on defense. Boston gets Help at PG. Why we like it. Brown is ready to break out... Or maybe not. I figure with our rebuilding, we'll see. Battie is a decent C, not as good as Theo but I like his price better. Williams' Contract ends at the end of the season but until that time, he can help platoon the 3. I like this lineup: JT/Diaw/Brown/SAR/Battie. This team won't win any awards but they will be uptempo and exciting. Also, Brown might be DA Man. About Boston, Walker's going nowhere. It's said that he's dropped 25-30 lbs and is ripped. If that's the case, then he's staying like Ainge said. Theo/Walker/Pierce/Banks.... Not bad.
Guest
I think Theo has overrated trade value. Is he truely much better than Battie? He wasn't much better last season..But he does have more value than that for whatever reason. We'd still lack a shooter and third option with your trade.
Premium Member mrhonline Posted August 6, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted August 6, 2003 1. It solidifies the Center position for the next three years with Battie and Nazr splitting time - that's a decent rotation. 2. Williams helps fill the void at SF this year. 3. Assuming JT resigns cheaply, it allows the Hawks to plan on using the MLE; replacing Wiilliams (next year) with that shooter that you mentioned Hotlanta. 4. Brown has upside, Atlanta has playing time. If he flops, nothing is lost. 5. I am very skeptical that the "Great Year of 2005" is going to net a max FA. I'm sure Knight is thinking the same thing. So why not start working towards a better team in 2004 - to get a head start?
Premium Member Diesel Posted August 6, 2003 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted August 6, 2003 Really, I think the deal works because it adds nothing long term. GIves us solid pieces in the short term. And it definitely decreases salary. IF this team FLOPS Totally... For whatever reason... There's money to spend in 2004. We will have a high first rounder in 2004. ANd Reef Value will be very high in 2004. We can basically auction off Reef for either pieces or trade (Big FA) or Pieces and Picks... The key in my eye is Brown. What if he breaks out this year. The things I like about him. He plays good defense. He can run and rise. As far as shooters... Maybe add Smitty. I mean, that's an interesting wrinkle right there: JT/?? Smitty/Diaw/Hansen Brown/Williams/CC SAR/Hendu Battie/Nazr. We would need 1 more player. Think Smitty will take a 2 year 3.4 million dollar deal?
Guest
Smitty really isn't a starter.Kobe killed him two years ago in the playoffs...I have never seen a guy look so slow on defense.I know it's Kobe, but Smitty couldn't move at all hardly. swolehawk2
It is funny how people judge Theo's game on last year...he hadn't played ball in 2 years...this year is the year he should be judged. I watched almost every game and his game did seem to pick up as the season progressed. I don't think last year's Theo is close to the Philly Theo...or the Theo we will see next year. Playoffs03
I agree that Smitty is not a starter. I am not really familar with Brown, so I am not very high on him, but I would definitely do this trade if we can somehow get Delk involves in it. Guest
Well Theo is already about 31 years old.....The truth is that he has such a Deke like offensive game.I think he might average 9PPG 7RPG 3Blk but not much more than that.
swolehawk2
C'mon Hot...his offensive game is much better than Deke....without Dog on the team I think Theo can avg. between 12-15ppg with 8 rebounds...3 blocks...
Playoffs03
I think 15ppg for Theo is somewhat unrealistic ... unless we have a point guard name Jason Kidd. 12ppg is probably the max he will ever average in his entire career. He averaged 12.4ppg in the lockout season but I doubt he can do that in a full season.
Traceman
in 05/06. Better to keep Theo, a FAR better player than Battie, and have the caproom in 05/06. Brown has a chance to be good but I'd still rather have the caproom in 05/06 and Williams is a solid role player, nothing more. How about proposing a trade that doesn't include Theo? Premium Member Diesel Posted August 7, 2003 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted August 7, 2003 http://www.hawksquawk.net/forums/showflat....amp;o=&vc=1 Here's my post from over a year ago.... http://www.hawksquawk.net/forums/showflat....amp;o=&vc=1 In reply to:Our Frontcourt defense is weak but what will make a bigger difference is us being able to score. Battier is a super player. He will make us a whole lot better and defensively he can hold his own. He steals and Blocks shots very well. Theo is just one ragedy man. I think that given the right coaching, we can find good defense with Lo/Nazr as our C rotation. I still believe that this trade is not bad. Theo/CC for Battier/BK/Lo. Premium Member Diesel Posted August 7, 2003 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted August 7, 2003 The problem??? I don't see a problem paying Battie 5 million per year. Other than Games played, Rebounds, and Blocks, Theo doesn't lead Battie in any category. The sad part is MONEY.... Theo = 10 million. Battie = 5 Million Because I don't see much difference between the two except defense and Money and we don't exactly have a defensive team. Traceman
If we have to pay Battie $5 million in 05/06, that is $5 million less that we can spend on a top FA. It could be the difference in having $12 million in capspace and $7 million and that would be a HUGE difference. Battie is okay but acquiring him certainly is not worth the chance to bring in a max FA in 05/06. Besides, Theo is simply better and we can keep Theo and still have the capspace to go after the player(s) we want in 05/06.
