Inside_Man
... the Thrashers havent' had any trouble signing free agents?? They took care of Slava, and they just signed another pretty good player last week. Now, maybe you'll tell me that McDAvid's gonna let the Thrashers run themselves and be "hands-on" with the Hawks. Kinda like Kasten was "hands-on" with the Braves but let the Hawks run themselves. But I'm not buying that line of fish.
Premium Member Diesel Posted August 29, 2003 Premium Member Report Share Posted August 29, 2003 In so many words, Knight said what the problem was. They are far apart when it comes to MONEY. What that means is that the closer they get to the season, the more likely it is that Atlanta will try to get a SNT with Utah, Indy, or some other team and count JT loss. Again, whoose going to overpay JT simply because he's a FA? So yes, resigning JT is first priority, however, NOT AT ANY COST. IN fact, I believe that there's a very very designated Line of demorcation with this negotiation. I think JT is really not worth what he thinks he is. 5 years 36 Million would have been a little more than 7 per. I wonder if he's getting that kinda of offer now? Gray Mule
Thrashers, their life goes on. They don't seem to have missed a beat. They continue to prepare for the upcoming season and are excited about their prospects of finally having a winning season, no longer an expansion team but one of the competitive teams of the league. Meanwhile, the Hawks do nothing. They did move Big Dog, but that is it. They can not or will not sign Jason Terry. They have made no move to fill out the remaining spots on the roster by signing any free agents. Hawks need Jason Terry. Hawks do not need to sign J.T. to an outrageous contract that will tie up all available cash -- cap space available. If a person could buy most of these N.B.A. players contracts for what they are actually worth and sell them for what the players and their agents think that they deserve to be paid, what a wonderful profit he could make. Jason Terry's new contract apparently is stuck between what the Hawks are willing to pay and what J.T. and his agent want him to get. They are waiting for the new owner to take over and, hopefully, approve of the amount that they are asking for. Meanwhile, the Hawks sign no one else. The Thrashers live and do well, or so it seems. The Hawks do nothing.
