Dear NBA Fan,

Thank you for contacting the National Basketball Association regarding the Atlanta Hawks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers game on December 30.

Following the game, the Atlanta Hawks filed an official protest with the league office seeking an investigation into the operation of the shot clock with 1:56 remaining in the fourth quarter. Yesterday, the NBA announced that Commissioner David Stern has denied the Atlanta Hawks' protest of their 106-101 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Dec. 30, 2009.

In the protest, the Hawks argued that the failure of the shot clock operator to reset the shot clock following a defensive rebound by Atlanta with 1:57 remaining in the game warranted a replay of the game from that point forward.

Commissioner Stern determined that the shot clock error did not have a clear impact on the game's outcome and therefore did not justify the extraordinary remedy of granting the protest and overturning the game's result.

Thanks again for sharing your concerns with us. We very much appreciate your interest in the NBA.

Sincerely,

NBA Fan Relations

Against the Raptors the TJ ford had a basket completely uncredited to him by the hawks scorers in a game decided by 4. That was far worse than this and no replay was awarded.

I agree.

That said, Atlanta was forced to replay a game where Shaq sat out for 50 seconds at a time when Shaq was not longer on the team and could not replay that time even with the extraordinary remedy of replay]. How was that more fair?

The league needs to be explaining its Miami ruling...not the Toronto or Atlanta ones.
