THE DAILY (9-16-03).

Atlanta - In story that can be described as nothing short of shocking, AOL Time Warner has ended it's dealings with Dallas car magnate David McDavid and will instead sell the Hawks, Thrashers, and Philips Arena to a group led by Boston businessman Steve Belkin.

No More 'AOL' for Time Warner (9-16-03).

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...-2003Sep16.html

Yesterday, the company took another step toward improving its financial health by agreeing to sell the money-losing Atlanta Hawks basketball team and Atlanta Thrashers hockey team to an investor group that includes CNN founder Ted Turner's son-in-law, J. Rutherford Seydel II, and several Washington area business executives.

The sports teams and Atlanta's Philips Arena, which is also part of the pending deal, drained an estimated $50 million a year in cash from the corporation. The sale, valued at $250 million including the assumption of debt, does not include the most successful and valuable sports team owned by AOL Time Warner, the Atlanta Braves.

All that Jazz (9-15-03).

http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_5275.shtml

It is a sad, sad day for Jazz fans. Jason Terry will not be signing a deal with the Jazz for $24 million over three years. Instead, he is going to be signing a sheet of paper that has a picture of a Hawk at the top. ESPN has reported that the Hawks GM Billy Knight has come out and said that the Hawks will match the Jazz’s offer. With four million to go before the Jazz even hit the minimum cap number, what are they to do? That is a good question.

It was nice knowing you Jason Terry. It was nice to think of you as a member of the Jazz for a couple of days. Therefore, the Jazz have struck out over and over again this summer. The additions to the team are far outweighed by the losses. Keon Clark just doesn’t have the pull as Karl Malone. The Jazz are stuck right now. They have 13 guys under contract and only have two spaces left to fill. That’s 4 million to split between 2 guys that won’t even be able to help the team get into the playoffs and are not worth the sort of money they will pay.
