Squawkers Hawksquawk Posted May 5, 2011 Squawkers Report Share Posted May 5, 2011 Dime Magazine puts us in a time machine and takes us back to 1997 which is the last time that Atlanta and Chicago met in the playoffs. The Bulls were the No. 1 seed in the East that year and the Hawks went into Chicago and stole Game 2. That Hawks team led by Mookie Blaylock, Steve Smith, and Dikembe Mutombo won 56 games and held a 10 point lead over the Bulls in Game 3 before they eventually fell to Michael Jordan and company. There are some great names from the Hawks past on that 1997 team. Names like Christian Laettner, Utah Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin, and Eldridge Recasner. Georgia Tech fans will remember current ESPN NBA analyst Jon Barry and fellow Yellow Jacket Ivano Newbill. Alan Henderson played in 30 games for the Hawks that season while Ken "Snake" Norman logged just 17. Everyone's favorite draft pick, Priest Lauderdale logged 180 minutes for the Hawks that season as well. View the full article
