Robdawg
Hello fellow 'squawkers, so i'm sure we all here can agree that the past several days have been one of the busiest/ most hectic periods for our beloved franchise in quite sometime. So to prevent a lot of confusion I believe that having a thread like this will streamline some of the moves we make and allow new/away members to catch up very quickly. So lets get started! GO HAWKS! [NOTE] : Mods/Dolfan I stay very busy so I might not have time to put up new moves. If you'd like you can add to the list. I just saw this as a way to streamline our moves for our offseason. Plus if you see any mistakes please correct them. [NOTE] : News is current as of July 3, 2012 [May 10, 2012] Atlanta 80, Boston 83 Game six, do or die for the Hawks. In a lockout-shortened season, 'the core' of Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Al Horford, Marvin Williams, and Zaza Pachulia once again make the playoffs as a 5th seed (but get home-court advantage due to a higher regular season record). Their opponent? the 4th seeded Boston Celtics led by vets Paul Peirce, Ray Allen, KG, and stud Rajon Rondo. After several missed opportunities throughout the series Boston once again shows just what veteran leadership means. Knocking us out in six. This leaves many fans wondering if we've seen the best this current roster has to offer? http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tqfQMyMvyY [June 25, 2012] Sund out, Ferry in After the Hawks playoff exit, news also came of then-current GM Rick Sund's contract expiration. During this time many assumed Sund would return until the Hawks made a move for Spurs VP of basketball operations Danny Ferry. After talks, Ferry agreed to a six-year contract with Atlanta. In the month or so after his hire Ferry and Sund will have a transition period sharing views on what they believe is best for the team. http://www.nba.com/h...s-atlanta-hawks http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdUWXh5jryI [June 28, 2012] NBA Draft The Hawks had two picks a first round (23rd overall) and a second round (43rd overall) With their first selection the Hawks selected John Jenkins a SG. (called by many as the BEST PURE SHOOTER in the draft) http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9ftSBtSLP0 With their second pick the Hawks selected forward Mike Scott, one of the most underrated players in the draft. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5t_ZiNqvmI [July 2, 2012] The Day. Arguably the most hectic day in Hawks offseason history. Ferry stated in an interview that he wanted to bring a championship to Atlanta. Well, here we go. The Hawks extended a Qualifying Offer to F Ivan Johnson first. Johnson, who was a tough defender brought instant energy off the bench last season even if that got the best of him at times. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kZFMXLqru4 http://www.ajc.com/sports/moving-day-hawks-ship-1469341.html Then the Hawks did the impossible, trading six-time all-star Joe Johnson (and his contract) to the Brooklyn Nets for Anthony Morrow, Johan Petro, DeShawn Stevenson, Jordan Williams, and a lottery-protected 1st round pick. All this in a effort to clear salary and re-focus their spending on free agents. The Hawks also traded long time player Marvin Williams to the Jazz for PG Devin Harris. Stunning many but lets just say, not upsetting them. Now, the Hawks have a TON of expiring contracts making the franchise dangerous in next seasons free agency. Many around the league are stating CP3, Howard, or other superstars are possible destinations for Atlanta within the next couple of years. IN A SINGLE DAY Ferry changed the leagues perception of the Atlanta Hawks.
benhillboy
Yes he did. But I've been on record numerous times as someone who doesn't want any part of Nash or CP3. The first one would set our defense back light years now we've dealt arguably our best two perimeter defenders (you could make a case for Hinrich over Marvin, but Hinrich is aging fast), and the latter's injury history and diminishment of athleticism from his best days is too great. Far be it from me to speculate on how Paul (moreso Del Negro) could've counteracted the constant traps on his side PNR by San Antonio. I just know it left a foul taste in my mouth how easily "arguably the best PG in the league (Rondo, anyone?)", was shut down. Ferry was in the stands watching it. Admin
Very nice idea for a thread and executed well. If you can keep it updated or if people can help out by updating it that would be great
Robdawg
Thank Dol, with all the rumors currently circulating on homecourt I thought it would be a good idea to use this to quickly document our official moves. Personally, I believe that this should be pinned throughout the offseason so our new fans can see the changes we've done.By the way, I was gonna update the move we did today with Wilcox but I can't seem to edit my original post. I don't wanna sound like a noob but how can I edit it? Edited July 3, 2012 by Robdawg
