ATL_BALLER
You know the one that Danny and Josh supposedly had at the start of the season - the implication being that Smoove was part of the long-term plan? Along the same lines, remember at the start of the season how happy and committed Josh said he was - that he'd never enjoyed a team so much on and off the court? Granted, he hasn't publicly demanded to be traded, but if all the conjecture on both sides is to be believed, it's amazing how quickly things can sour.
Moderators PSSSHHHRRR87 Posted February 14, 2013 Moderators Report Share Posted February 14, 2013 The things that have happened: [*]Team went through a 3 week losing streak. [*]Injuries. [*]Dwight and Josh talked which led to: [*]Josh and his peers having a meeting with Ferry which led to: [*]Josh saying he wants a max deal to stay and Ferry dispelling his demands which quite possible led to: [*]Josh making trade demands behind closed doors and Ferry testing the waters. That's what happened to the so-called "understanding" that they had. Josh was happy when the grass was green, the team was winning, and he felt that it was his team. Then the losing streak began while Deshawn, Korver, Morrow, Harris, Lou, and Pachulia started having injuries. I believe Dwight and Josh had a conversation in which Dwight told Josh somethings that made him change his mind about Atlanta. Probably that he either has no interest in living and working in Atlanta full-time or that his injuries are worse than expected and has to get that money while he can. Then the max contract ish came out and Ferry isn't going to overpay for guys as he is wanting to build a 13-man team and knows Josh isn't enough to get to the ECF and beyond. I'm all for a guy to start the bidding high, but if he actually thinks he is getting a max deal he is crazy. I mean if you are wanting $6k for a car, you slap $10k on it knowing that gives you wiggle room for negotiating, but I think Josh is making that $10k firm. He thinks the weight is heavy now, just imagine how heavy it'll be if you have a max deal on top of that.
Dragitoff
Maybe the understanding was Josh would play smart and if he did, Ferry would make him a cornerstone piece of the team's future.
Premium Member Sothron Posted February 14, 2013 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 14, 2013 I'm thinking Dwight told Josh he wasn't coming to Atlanta and now Josh wants out. Which is fine with me.

Josh probably took "cornerstone" to mean "point guard."

Maybe contingent on being in the top 200 in scoring efficiency for players shooting 100+ shots and that hasn't happened? http://bkref.com/tiny/vGO5b Maybe it was a 'make nice' effort at the beginning of the year because he hadn't made up his mind on Josh but would be benefited by Josh playing well and committing to team success whether he left or stayed? Who knows?

Who knows? Don't try to bring rational thought into this. Remember: yay points, wow dunks. That's what makes you a good player on offense.
