Further Clearing Up The Pg Situation In Orlando

I figure this report from hoopsworld helps explain Orlando's push for Vaughn and his role on that team.

In reply to:

"With rumors surfacing that Memphis may make a long term commitment to free agent point guard Troy Hudson, the Magic appear to have shifted attentions to plan B, namely Jacque Vaughn. Long time Magic fans may recall the Magic had a pursuit of Vaughn in trade with Utah several seasons ago, and Vaughn ended up in Atlanta as a free agent. The Magic are looking for veteran help at the point spot, and Vaughn may be in their price range. The Magic are rumored to have contacted Travis Best, but his long term needs do not seem to meet the Magic’s short term needs."

Thus, Jacque Vaughn is Orlando's "plan B" seeking "veteran help at the point spot" because Hudson may be signed elsewhere (or cost to much as a result of other team's offers), Orlando's previous interest in JV several seasons ago, and JV's expected reasonable cost. Hudson is likely on the out in Orlando.

Orlando's management previously called Armstrong the team's "heart" and reported their interest in JV was to prolong the career of Armstrong, so this "new" information shouldn't have been all that unforseeable.

His summer league stats have been erratic but good. He seems to be making a lot of plays but a lot of turnovers as well. He looks to be a better scorer than Sasser already.

On the bad side for him though, I can't imagine the Magic starting the season with only Armstrong having real experience at PG, particularly when they are looking to limit his minutes.
