Peachtree Hoops: Buzzer beating shot from Dejounte Murray lifts Hawks over Magic 106-104

The Atlanta Hawks brought the Orlando Magic to town for their fifth straight home game.

Jalen Johnson scored first for the Hawks, making both free throws after being fouled by Paolo Banchero on a drive to the rim.

Early on, Young fell while trying to make a move on Banchero and it took him a while to get up. He played a couple of possessions before exiting the game. Snyder turned to the Okongwu and Capela lineup with first substitutions.

It was a relatively ugly start for both teams offensively, with the Hawks committing six turnovers. The game was tied at 26 after one quarter.

The Hawks started the third quarter well offensively, and Young began to come alive. He threw a dime to Okongwu and made an and-one layup on consecutive possessions.

However, the Hawks logged seven turnovers in the first six minutes of the second quarter, bringing their total to 13. They went scoreless for over three minutes before Johnson ended the drought with a two-pointer.

After going down due to the turnover-bananza, the Hawks tied it up at 47 with a three-pointer from Murray (incredibly assisted by Young.)

The Hawks led 51-49 at half. Capela went the full first half without logging a rebound.

The Magic secured a seven point lead before substitutions came at the midway point in the third quarter.

The Hawks battled back to tie it up, and eventually took the lead late in the quarter with a three-pointer from Garrison Mathews.

The Hawks entered the fourth quarter leading 78-76. Young assisted on two Okongwu buckets and Dejounte Murray tied the game at 90 with a midrange. While Young had thrown 11 assists, he also dealt nine turnovers.

It was a one-point game with less than five minutes remaining. Capela checked in earlier than normal in the fourth, and Okongwu checked back in at the 4:21 mark to finish the game.

Murray finally got a floater to sink after a wild possession with under two minutes left in the game.

With a one-point lead and under 40 seconds remaining, Young came down and drew a foul to get to the free throw line. He knocked down both to lead by three. Paolo Banchero then came down and nailed a three to tie it up.

Coming down the other way, Dejounte Murray worked out for his own midrange and knocked it down as time expired to win it.
