  1. This was my question, and Sekou provided a great answer. Actually, it's not that I think we can't take the next "step" with Bibby on the team, it's that I think we need a fundamentally different type of pg playing at least 25 minutes a night. So, I agree with Sekou here. I'm cool with Bibby getting 24 minutes a night, with someone like TJ Ford getting the other 24 minutes (in fact, I think Bibby could excel in a JT-type 6th man scoring roll). But, Im guessing Bibby is gonna be wanting waaaaay more money than he is worth at this point in his career (i'd be cool with him and TJ Ford getting 7-8 mill each... meaning, we have $14-mill in a pg tandem... which is less than Bibby's 15-mill last year; that's a big paycut for Bibbs tho).
  2. Exactly. And 5.8 million AFTER taxes is more like $3.5 million. So, 6.6 mill vs. 3.5 mill. That's a lot of money to give up.
  3. Chillz would have to take a paycut to come back to the NBA. I don't see a team dishing out the type of money he's getting over there (which, you have to remember, comes out to a lot more because he doesnt pay tax on it).
  4. And people also forget that Speedy was actually a really solid NBA player until he came here. Dont get me wrong, his fragile self didnt deserve the contract we gave him, but that doesnt mean he wasnt a solid NBA player (in San Antonio and New Orleans).
  5. The thing about this draft is the PG depth: Rubio Jennings Curry Holiday Flynn Maynor Teague Lawson Collison Mills There's definitely gonna be one sitting there for us at 19 (altho I wouldnt really want Collison or Mills). And, even if we dont go pg, there are some solid players projected to still be available: Terrence Williams Sam Young Mullens I definitely think we can get a solid rotational player in this draft. I personally would like a Teague or Curry type. High-octane offense that can eventually be a better version of Flip.
  6. Don't get me wrong, I agree with CoachX. Sund answered the questions how a professional GM should. My only gripe is: Dude can at least acknowledge that we have areas to work on. He doesnt need to criticize Woody specifically, but he can say: "I have talked to Woody and the other coaches, and we do feel we need to come up with some other strategies on offense. We have set that as a goal for the summer." Just acknowledge that they do realize there is a problem, and that they are making a concerted effort to do something about it. Our offense is painful to watch. Fixing it has to be priority #1 for Woody this season.
  7. http://blogs.ajc.com/mark-bradley-blog/200...rk_bradley_blog In Sund's defense, Mark Bradley does say at the end (in the comments): "My impression is that Rick Sund knows what has to be done and is positioning himself to do it." But, some strange ish is in there for sure: Wait so, you've never thought that Woody might need just a little help on the offensive side? :computer8: I mean, I know he's playing it close to the vest, but still.
  8. I mean, my thing is, Sund and the Owners watch the same games we watch. They know our "offense" looks like a pile of dung and is laughably bad. The question is, do they trust that Woody can fix it? Or, do they feel they need to bring in a consultant ("offensive coordinator") to handle that side of things? They can't think everything is A-OK on offense. You don't get to their positions by being retarded.
  9. There are a lot of PG options out there this summer, and I am of the opinion that the Hawks can't take the "next" step with Bibby at the helm. So, my question is: what skill-set do you think we should be targeting in a PG in order to improve most as a team? Are there any potential FAs, players in the draft, or players on the "trading block" that you personally see as 1) feasible and 2) a good fit for the team?
  10. Im thinking were headed to a Denver/Cleveland finals, and I have NO problem with that! Im rooting for Denver. Love the way they are playing.
  11. As I've said elsewhere, the Hawks cannot take the "next" step with Bibby at the point. I still believe this team needs a quick, up-tempo distributor, who can get into the lane. Monta Ellis, TJ Ford, Felton and Sessions are all guys that I would target (probably in that order too).
  12. I mean, if that's possible, you do it. You then let Bibby walk and have a ton of cap space to use for a JJ extension, a Marvin contract, or a FA signing. I have to think the Bulls can get more than that tho (they'd want our 1st).
  13. I meant it in the sense that, similar to Nash, he will thrive for his next team, even tho he is a bit older. I really think he just needs a change of scenery. No, he isn't as offensively talented as Nash. But, he plays extremely hard on the defensive end, he is an above-average distributor, he has a high bball IQ, and he can knock down the open jumper. I'd take him over Bibby any day of the week. I agree. They would not throw in Anthony Randolph without Josh Smith coming back to them. However, I do think Monta Ellis might get traded this summer. So, while AR wouldnt be included, a Marvin + Bibby for Ellis deal could be an option (GS is a team rumored to go after Bibby).
  14. Marvin is my dude, but he lacks 2 things that really limit his game: 1) a reliable handle and 2) smoothness (Brandon Roy is the pinnacle of this). My thing is, while he can improve these things some, I do think they will ultimately prevent him from ever becoming a true "star." Still tho, he has a money shot (when healthy), plays hard on the defensive end, and still is developing body-wise. For the right price, I'm down to roll with him. The 1 and the 5 remain our biggest questions.
  15. I voted Hinrich because I think he still has a lot of talent and it is very likely that he will thrive for his next team (think Nash moving teams at 30). I also really like Sessions and Felton. Another X Factor could be Monta Ellis. GS has a lot of problems right now and Ellis has not been thrilled about playing there. What about a Sign and Trade with Marvin and Bibby for Ellis and Anthony Randolph (Randolph is gonna be a stud by the way).

    Mehmet Okur

Bingo. Moving Smoove to the 3 ONLY works if we get a 5 like Okur or Bargnani that can play Marvin's role on offense (someone out of our 3, 4 and 5 have to be able to shoot). But, Okur is waaaaay better than DA, so I do think it would be worth going after him. For fun: Sign Okur Sign and trade Marvin + Acie for Monta Ellis (who is disgruntled in GS). Monta Joe Smoove Horf Okur Yes, please.
  17. I know what you mean, but I also think Bosh and JJ TOGETHER would do wonders for both (Bosh has never played with an elite swing man and ATL JJ has never played with an elite post player). But I do agree we would need vocal leadership coming from somewhere. A ballsy pg would do the trick IMO.
  18. Toronto has no back-up to Caldy tho. Acie gives them that (and I think Acie still has some value around the league; he hasn't really been given a fair shake yet). I don't think Toronto can get equal value for Bosh because of his 2010 status. So, it comes down to the marketplace. Bosh for Smoove/Acie is at least a decent deal. Deng/Hinrich would be slightly better perhaps, but not by that much. It really just depends on what other teams are willing to offer.
  19. I think Smoove and Acie for a resigned Bosh (5 year deal) makes sense for all involved. We then draft pg at 19 and either resign Bibby (hopefully not) or go after a Felton, Ellis, or TJ ford type.
  20. I just cant see this team taking the "next" step with Bibby, especially at a high price. With guys like Felton, TJ Ford, Monta Ellis, etc., available, I'd like to see us go for a quick guy who can penetrate and force the tempo.
  21. AL Jefferson was headed to the top of that list pre-injury. If he comes back strong, he'll be a monster. I'd put West and Aldridge above Smoove, but Smoove WAY above Randolph lol.
  22. Im by no means a Woody fan, but Mitchell is flat-out worst than him. I used to live in Canada and watched a ton of Raptor's games. Mitchell sucks. But Bosh is really good... let's get him. Also, Calderon is a better version of Bibby (same defensive deficiencies tho).
  23. Umm, Im confused. You came closest to addressing that with this one: 1). Yes, we do have enough information about positions of other teams (draft positions, needs, current relationships with players etc.), you just dont want to put in the work. For example, you can look at Golden State's current situation (a very bad one), and come up with something centered around players like Jamal Crawford, Monta Ellis and Anthony Randolph. Earlier, I talked about a Bosh for Smoove/Acie trade, and that was based on the reality of Bosh's impending unrestricted free agency and the fact that Toronto is poised to suck for the indefinite future (making it unlikely Bosh will stay there). 2) I realize you're "blowing off a little steam" and that your trade proposal wont actually have a "real-world" effect. What I'm getting at is that it's a lot easier to say "we need to trade so and so for a better player" than to actually do it. Your argument is pointless if you can't come up with a JJ trade scenario that sets us up better for the future. Im not attacking you man, i'm just saying what everyone else is thinking (and really, no one should start a "Player needs to get traded" thread without actually proposing a trade that makes us better). I mean, it's as simple as saying: JJ and Smoove for Ellis, Crawford and Anthony Randolph (with salaries thrown in to match and after waiting for BYC to expire).
  24. Bosh plays better man defense in the post than Smoove. Smoove is an elite shotblocker, but doesnt play all that well in the post.
