  1. Oh ok...sorry about that, this thread isn't too surprising but I do find the new rumor that ferry doesn't want a superstar way over the top! I mean that's basically what the negative posters are saying when you sum it all up. SMH
  2. Seriously guys who said that ferry didn't want a star on this team? That rumor just got made up in this thread...that's what it is. And who said Ferry didn't or wasn't looking for better talent? Why in the world would ferry not look for better talent? Do we not have that?
  3. Oh I'm sorry! Let's talk about bringing in lebron, wade, bosh, melo...it's very likely we get them all this summer! Championship! I can't believe we are talking about bringing in stars but then again we always get star players....don't we?
  4. Name sounds familiar...but I don't recall who he is.
  5. "And they've taken talent and developed stars around him." Exactly....they DEVELOPED THEIR STARS...that's what ferry is trying to do here along with coach bud. Give them some damn time! "And they've taken talent and developed stars around him." Exactly....they DEVELOPED THEIR STARS...that's what ferry is trying to do here along with coach bud. People need to Give them some damn time!
  6. I never mentioned that we have 3 all stars. I just said I rather have 3 all stars along with a great supporting cast. The east being weak isn't our concern in other words who the hell cares! Miami sure doesn't care that the east is weak! Last nobody is saying we don't need quality talent, we all know we need quality talent! I'm saying we don't need to break the team by signing two major contracts like harden/Howard who also has no shot at winning a finals! Then you ask am I happy with a second round exit?! I can tell you this...I'm happy that we aren't the clippers with loads of talent but still can't get out the second round going on 5 years! Like you said quality talent but quality talent has to work together! Not just a bunch of high profile names on a team, that's not how you build a franchise! I want the hawks to go about being a great franchise like the spurs...they don't overspend on marquee names, that's what I want.
  7. No ferry saw the best talent that he felt fit this system and I'm sure bud had a lot to do with it as well.
  8. Hold the judgement on ferry people. I will tell you guys this...when the hawks did have bigger names smith, Johnson, bibby, Crawford, whoever else...they were soft as hell! One soft ass coward team! But today we have a new gm that brought in tough players like DMC, Sap, Brand, other smaller names that play like they want to be here and play like men for 48 minutes. I'm not wrapped up on this star player stuff as much as I once was. Truth is, is that stars don't always come through! Look a Howard and harden they failed Big time this year! I rather have 3 all stars and a great ass supporting cast! That alone will make some noise in the east! Breaking the bank for one star ain't good enough or better than that.
  9. Agreed he would buy into the system. More than likely he solves the number 1 option needed, as far as rebounds go I'm going to say it once more....rebounding is a TEAM effort not just one individual like asik or someone a TEAM effort like the pacers
  10. lol but 10m won't even get him listening to ferry and bud trying to sell him the dream. I would say a paycut for a star like melo would be 16m...now that's more like it and will atleast get him to listen.....3 year 48mil deal with a player option on the final year.
  11. Honestly man I don't think it's the system. I think it's the money. Melo has to be willing to take a major paycut and that's probably asking too much at that point. Honestly man I don't think it's the system. I think it's the money. Melo has to be willing to take a major paycut and that's probably asking too much at that point. Even Phil Jackson said that melo has to take a paycut if he returns to the Knicks if they want to be future contenders.
  12. Well this is why it wouldn't happen. Melo got to grow some balls and take a pay cut. If he's all about winning now I expect him to do just that. Maybe not with the hawks but somebody.
  13. I see you put melo at the 2 in your lineup!....I like, I like, I like! Smart move! DMC defense will be better next year anyways and he needs to start.
  14. Maybe no all stars but I sure as hell see some players that will fit on this team and be good.
  15. It is a pipe dream....duh! But what's wrong with dreaming? I didn't realize this thread was about realism...I thought we were all on board with just sayin how great it would be if melo came here, took a paycut, and bought into coach buds scheme. We know melo isn't coming here but regardless of where he goes he's going to have to learn an offense and play within that offense and not break that offense and play the team defense scheme if he wants to win a ring. Now those who have commented and actually believe in the pipe dream of melo coming here I know how ya feeling. Melo is in his 30s, his time is running out, he's more likely to stay in the weak east than to go back to the west, if you look at the teams in the east the hawks are the best fit for him regardless of what the media says, and teams like the bulls who want him would be a risk for melo because of rosés injury. There's no doubt the pieces are in place here but melo probably still wouldn't come but it doesn't sadden me cause I felt like ATL was the best place for CP3 and D12 last year too. I don't see melo winning on the bulls or any other east team not named the hawks. We are the only team with the right players that's needed around him....in my opinion that is.
  16. Lol no matter where he goes he has to change with a more talented roster around him. I'm more worried that he won't take a major paycut but if he takes a partial paycut because he really wants to be in Atlanta I do think the ASG/Ferry will agree to go into the lux or whatever to sign him. A dream scenario would be: Pg-Teague Sg-#15 draft pick (defense minded, we can work on the offense as the season goes) Sf-Melo Pf-Sap C-Horford Bench Pg-Mack or Dennis Sg-Korver Sf-DMC Pf-Scott C-Antić Bebe, Muscala, add 3 point shooter (Jodie Meeks), add defender (Xavier Henry) That's a championship team on good contracts! I think horford and sap would come back on good contracts as well the next off season! They aren't going to leave a contending championship team if this were to happen. (Just dreaming a bit...a player like melo changes a lot of things)
  17. I agree but like I said his numbers and shooting attempts will drop in this system but that's a good thing cause like you said no matter where he goes he will have to sacrafice his individual stats if he wants to win a championship! Wade and lebron did it....it's just something you have to do to compete for a ring in the nba league.
  18. And did we not see Ellis have the best year of his career when he played in the mavs system?! I'm telling you guys nba players can change with good coaching staffs. Bud wouldn't be afraid to tell melo what's up, when he's playing bad if he was on this team. Trust me I wouldn't be for iso melo if ferry didn't have this coaching staff in place but since we have what I think is a great coaching staff I believe they can change melo to fit into coach buds system. Also I think melo can play defense if he tries, he proved that in the WCF vs the lakers that year.....it's all about a coach getting everything they can out of melo and I just believe coach bud can do that. Man can you imagine how good Teague would be with melo on the team! Paul George would have had to stay on melo the whole series leaving hill guarding Teague!...Teague would have looked like a MVP! Anyways I think coach bud can fit melo in with this team the biggest adjustment would be that melo shot attempts will HAVE to take a dive but that's a good thing.
  19. I'm not going to overlook this. At first I said melo wouldn't work here but now because we have an excellent coaching staff in place I think melo could fit here and be great here....possibly the best time of his career could be under coach bud. Now can we afford him? Well he has to be willing to take a pay cut...if he really wants to win. I think the ASG will go into the lux tax if they can have Teague, Sap, Horford, Korver, Melo I really do.
  20. Stars are important but having talent and doing something with that talent is just as important. Squawkers allow me to share something that I heard from the all time great Oscar Robertson aka the "Big O" on Sirius NBA radio channel 217. Oscar said: when he looks at the nba game today and he hears media, fans, analyst, etc. talk about how a guy has hit his ceiling (in other words can't develop into anything better) at the age of 27,28,29 he believes it's the most foolish thing out of all things in the NBA. Oscar went on to say: There's one team that has shown that they can develop players consistently and that's the spurs!...one of the host then asked him about the lack of stars in the league and oscar responded with saying its a lack due to failure to develop players and the fact the coaches are giving up on 27,28,29 year olds when they still have the potential to get better. This was just a FYI message to appreciate our new coaching staff: I wanted to share this with you guys about a month ago when it aired on nba radio cause everything oscar said in my opinion was true and it just made me really appreciate this new coaching staff that has spurs mentality! We may not sign a star but we sure as hell NOW have the coaching staff to develop one! Also these comments gives this board a wake up call on how we think of ourselves as experts in knowing what players can develop and who can't. really all players have potential if their mindset is in the right place. Now don't get me wrong some players like josh smith need a serious talking to if he's going to develop but if you have a good coaching staff in place it's no issue to get to him. The hawks didn't have that when smith was in the ATL and I blame the owners for not hiring better coaches before I blame josh. Coaching staffs really matter...hell it's really the most important thing! Once that is in place fans should automatically feel better about the team.
  21. I have never really believed so much in a coaching staff on the hawks as much as I do now. I'm telling you guys I don't worry about this hawks team as much as I use to. I get we need a star but I always felt that we need coaches who could develop the team just as much. We finally have that and we also needed a coaching staff and gm that has an eye for talent...we finally got that. I know we all feel like experts but coach bud is the real expert and it's hard for me to see him fail at this job with ferry behind him and the asg giving complete power to ferry to make decisions. Hawks are in a good place right now.
  22. Good points...I wouldn't be mad if we didn't get hawes. However I do think he can do more in coach buds system if given the opportunity! Offensively anyways.
  23. nbasupe got a good point here though dolf. There aren't many good small forwards avalible. It's kinda like the center position in the nba really, not a ton of good centers. No wonder Loul Deng is demanding 13m...his agent knows there aren't many good SFs to choose from. With that said if ferry and crew don't plan to draft one the gamble to pay big for a younger sf like Ariza may take place.
  24. Well hawes isn't coming here to start I just want him in the rotation as I like the idea of keeping the floor spreaded with our bigs bad getting another slasher by Teague . However if we could add hill too and just cut Pero and let brand walk. I think we would have one of the better big man rotations in the nba. I would like to see how that works out before bringing over bebe.
