  1. Not me! We don't go after many offensive boards so this is completely irrelevant to the hawks. Coach bud coaches sharing the ball and efficient scoring on the offense end and getting back on defense more so than going after an offensive rebound. So I don't see your purpose of bringing this up unless your arguing with the way coach bud coaches or I should say the way of the spurs.
  2. Oh ok so he's 25...and he's very likely to get a max deal worth probably between 10-14mil per year....so here's my question(s): Does ferry think Monroe is worth the max? Or would this be another 2nd tier player (as jaybirdhawk put it) gettin a max deal just because of his size? My opinion: Monroe has some positives about himself. He has good size, did rebound well this past season, and he has the ability to play a very good inside offense more so than defense in his case BUT he's a risk at a high deal on the table so I'm still giving hawes the 7-9m 2 year deal and rolling with it.
  3. Interesting! I wonder how bad hawk fans want Monroe? I rather have him or hawes over gortat, asik, kaman due to age. Plus bud maybe able to mold Monroe into a great all around center as he's still in the molding age at 23 so it's possible or is he younger than that?
  4. I guess it's a close toss up depending on how you look at it. To me coach bud would out coach Vogel on a horford vs Hibbert matchup EVERYTIME. Anyways like you said horford all day.
  5. I think you can move smith but we hawk fans know he need the right team to be effective. I was thinking maybe the pelicans for Ryan Anderson if the contracts match. Great for the pistons, just ok for the pelicans. Or Smith to the lakers just to dump him. Lol Or Smith to the bulls for boozer. Bulls may be able to play Gibson at the 3 and the pistons will only have to suffer a bad contract for one more year I believe (not sure) with boozer coming off the bench. Other than that they stuck with his ass! Lol maybe a move to celtics possibly to pair with rondo?
  6. He's still trying to justify why he rather have a Hibbert, Howard type big over a hawes, horford type center...but at the end of the day hawes/horford type provides more for the hawks. Now don't get me wrong! If we had a bonafide 20 point scorer I wouldn't even have brought this topic up. But since we don't, I don't see the hawks as a team that can have a one dimensional role starter on the team but probably the bench. (Probably another reason Korver need to go to the bench as well...he would be a great sixth man!)
  7. Uhhhhh more like the other way around... http://m.basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/233409/van-gundy-high-on-greg-monroe The question is what are they going to do with Smith?
  8. Preach! Let them know! FINALLY SOME DAMN KNOWLEDGE!!! I have been trying and trying to explain that to this board but they are all still stuck on individual performances. I know it's hard to believe but we are a TEAM offense, a TEAM defense, and a TEAM rebounding unit! Like I said if you want a true center just for rebounds that's not a good reason. If you don't mind kind sir (Buzzard) now preach to them about how teams rim protect and not just one individual! We seem to have board members that think if we get a so called true center we can let opposing players just run at the rim because we have a "rim protector" Horford, hawes can do these same things plus more.
  9. No that's just how I feel about centers in today's NBA. I'm no fool...I know centers like Olajuwon, Dikembe, etc. were great defensive centers but the guys today aren't on that level. To me the last center that was truly good at protecting the rim was Marcus camby and Howard about 3-5 years ago. Now it's overrated in my opinion when you look deep into it. Exactly
  10. Forget hawes I just want the hawks to keep someone at center that can actually drop points. My case for hawes is that he just works and a so called true center wont do anything but get in the way especially on offense. By the way you never know, if hawes likes ATL much like sap did he may sign a 2 year contract for what he's worth.
  11. oh thats right!…my bad Diesel
  12. Without creating yet another Spencer Hawes thread I will put my comments here. Lets call this one……. JTB'S reason of wanting Spencer Hawes vs the typical hawks fans that want the so called "true center" Reasons typical hawk fans want a true center: The reason typical hawk fans want a so called true center like Howard, Hibbert, Perkins type is all due to wanting rim protection and rebounds. Some of you want low post scoring but there are a handful of low post scorers that are not available, therefore if we were to get the so called "true center" he will likely have his best abilities at rim protection and rebounds. What I say about those reasons most want a true center: First off I have come to conclusion that RIM PROTECTION is very overrated! I can stick any 7 footer under the goal and as long as he keeps his hands up, he can alter inside shots especially with horford being down there with him (LD proved that with Jason Collins!….ALTERING SHOTS DO NOT SHOW UP ON THE STAT SHEET). Now rebounding thats purely do to all out hustle, its not so much a skill, its about effort. Have you ever thought about the other side of the ball?: You wanting a true center doesn't do us any good on offense! Why? Because our true center will likely be limited on offense. We aren't getting Marc Gasol or Al Jefferson type centers who can score because there are only 5 or 6 out there and they aren't available. Let me continue….. -Your true center will clog up the lane for Teague and other slashers we add to the team -Your true center will likely not be a great passer out of the post -Your true center will make the other teams true center comfortable and ready for battle every game -Your true center is not guaranteed to do better than our own al horford at the rim on defense So why do I want Hawes? Why….do…I…want….hawes? First off f**k hawes! If we get him then we get him. It aint about wanting hawes its about spreading the floor and making the other teams adjust to us. I want horford to remain starting center and guy like hawes off the bench. Sure hawes don't share the same overrated defense background many of you put on so called true centers but he works better with the hawks. -hawes is weapon on offense! You guys act like we got a bonafide 20pt scorer, no the truth is, is that we don't have one and we may not get one for a while. So add to what we have and thats three 17pt scorers. -hawes won't clog the lane up for our slashers -hawes can do the same thing as clumsy ass hibbert and put his hands straight up at the rim! Hell bring bebe over…he can do that too but without falling -hawes get more rebounds than hibbert and provide efficient offense. -hawes skill set in spreading the floor would put fear in true centers cause now they are useless! Somebody said it in an earlier post. These teams clog the lane with their so called true center and dare teams to shoot. And all of you want to get a true center to put beside the other teams true center which will work in the other teams favor?….Why I ask? Thats why we were such a huge problem for the pacers. Rim protection is overrated! You spread that Big f**k away from the goal he all messed up! Wheres the rim protection now?! Then you guys talk about our defense and our rim protection and you act like no 7 footer except the ones you know of can put there hands straight up! You guys mention these rebounds like you didn't see the blazers accept the challenge and beat down the overrated rockets who have arguably the best defense center in the league. Then we watch this wizards series and all I see is two so called true centers that could probably out rebound hibbert every game but can't put the damn ball in the hole. Then some of you want a low post scorer and act like there are so many options which there aren't but want to diss me for wanting a scoring center who avgs 9 rebs and probably could protect the rim by putting his hands straight up since he's 7'1. I know Im winning this argument so I beg for some body to come back at me!
  13. Nice shot at me...but look I can come up with good reasons to bring hawes here. When Diesel wanted oj mayo, he wanted him at pg here and at that time he had never been used primarily as pg until the mavs tried him there one season. My reasons for wanting hawes makes more sense than those who want a so called true center. But I'll be honest at first I want hawes to start which is clearly not a smart move now I want him as backup primarily and then put in the starting unit against the so called true centers like Howard, Hibbert, etc. Maybe I will get off the hawes bandwagon once someone shows me up and tells me how terrible of a fit he would be. But the truth is no one can.

    Which SF We Need

I like but who's the realistic target at SG? Or are we going start seeing Aaron Afflalo dreams again? It would be great to get a slashing SG but I'm not seeing any we can actually get. A more realistic thing to happen would be that 15th pick starting at SG if we want to move Korver to the bench.
  15. An this has been another one of my points. I also believe hawes is probably the most likely candidate we get, followed by gortat now that the wizards look pathetic and disappointing, followed by Monroe because of ferry knowing his agent and in that order. Then again ferry may wait another off season and get the wing player he wants this off season.
  16. I used the word attitude so that was the wrong word....I should have used desire. I question gay's desire to buy into buds system not because of a bad attitude but more of a who cares type of thing.
  17. JTB

    Which SF We Need

Yup...and see if gay really wants to win he doesn't listen to his agent because his agent will tell him to stay because the more gay gets the more the agent gets. I wonder if gay is ready to grow up and actually give himself a chance? Sometimes that involves leaving money on the table...just sayin
  18. Agreed. Gay is the better penetrator however many would argue if he's the better shooter. As far as defense goes I think Ariza is better but he can't create his own shot like Gay. Gay shot did improve when he went to the kings however. Anyways I agree with you. If we are looking for a penetrator and hopefully we are Gay followed by Deng are the best two options. But I worry if Gay can fit into buds offense system? Not because of skill but attitude.
  19. Only lady of the squawk...isn't she? Happy Mother's Day!
  20. Man I don't know about this! 12m is steep! But the comment below is very true. I said in the past 2-3 years deng was the best defender I've seen against James one on one and that would be the only reason I would want him. Isn't he getting old? It may be smarter to throw money at Ariza or Gay instead, just saying.

    Which SF We Need

What do you guys think about Ariza or Gay playing SG and keeping DMC at SF? Only reason I ask is because DMC provides good defense and hustle on the boards for us and I think he's a worthy starter for another season. AND because I don't see an issue with starting Ariza or Gay at SG if we were ever to get one of them.
  22. JTB

    Which SF We Need

I agree he COULD be great but he has to buy I to coach buds system. That seems to be easier for someone like Ariza. I don't know about Gay, also I think he's worth 7-9m but only if he can buy into buds system would be the only risk here. Now as far as Rudy Gays attitude goes...He should be looking forward to trying to be a contender rather than worrying about his stats at this stage of his career. An like someone has already mentioned, ATL would be a Gays chance to come in, in his prime and play along sap, horford in their prime , and a rising star in Jeff Teague. His days of being "the man" are over...he need to be worried about championships! He already got his big pay day...it's time to grow up now. Unfortunately for hawk fans we don't rally know where his attitude is but maybe ferry/bud can figure that out if they decide to possibly go after him because he does have the skill set we want at the wing.
  23. Im not against this by any means, in fact I love the idea of spending the money on a wing player instead. I guess I like the idea of spreading a "true center" like howard or hibbert away from the goal cause it takes them completely away from their strongest abilities. I just wish Antić was a better 3pt shooter, so I liked the thought of bringing in Hawes when we play "true centers" or bigger centers I should say. To me its al about making them adjust to us instead of trying to adjust to them. Take the blazers vs rockets series, howard couldn't be a force at the defense end to protect the goal because LA (L.Aldrige) was destroying them from the perimeter even though they were long twos. So you can see why I stress for a perimeter BIG especially in coach buds system! Its very hard to defend especially for "true so called centers" like howard/hibbert type. But all that said we don't have to get hawes or another 3pt Big to pull that off as horford should be able to do the same. Add a scoring wing player like Rudy Gay and we are good to go
  24. Exactly but don't you see most so called true centers like that?...can't exploit a perimeter Big man because they aren't an impact guy on the offense end and not great rebounders?...I completely agree I really do! I can name a bunch of Roy Hibberts! But very few centers are in the 20/10 range. Perkins, javale mcgee, Larry sanders, Lopez brothers, etc...none of these guys rebound better than our own al horford and if we had a perimeter big that could knock down his shots consistently known of these guys other than brook Lopez can impact the offense side of the ball. If I'm ferry I would sign hawes plus the so called true center type to our bench for next season and exploit the league! Having just a rebounding machine like asik or just a gortat ain't good enough to me, we need both.
