  1. That last sentence is almost caustic in its subversion. Props. That would be the crapshow to end all crapshows. Does make one wonder what now has become the vanguard these days in respect to performance drugs. For better or worse, the very question of how he has produced both in durability and performance at age 33 might perhaps rise above whisper.
  2. Is it worse still the point total is close to three points above his career avg? That said, I think most here realize just how far he transcends this and that many of his coaches acknowledge how little he cares about getting his provided they are winning. The Hawks were in a difficult position not seemingly not helped much if at all by Al. Worse still that a sign and trade could not work out. That and signing Howard prior to letting Al's situation play out. And of course signing Dwight in the first place.
  3. In these strange times of tanking, I suppose I would mean by dug out that the Hawks were actively seeking talent as opposed to taking on junky contracts to keep the salary floor high enough and getting picks. Likewise when simultaneously an upper tier (sadly not meaning the Durants and the like) free agent. On the whole, I am neutral to positive about Schlenk and dig that part of a GM's job is to take cover for the owner. As for whether or not our newest HC is Schlenk's guy, he certainly is now. As for his ideal HC, I sadly do not know enough about him to hazard a guess about the coaches that have truly impressed him.
  4. Unless we move to 1 to get Anton, with Doncic he has a certain amount of control over where he goes. Just like in the NFL draft and since time immoral, there is going to be a certain amount of sandbagging to be expected in hopes a targeted player drops. Simply, it is not for nothing that many of the most forward thinking of GM's are tripping over themselves to give viability to Doncic being a legit prospect. Like most mocks and many here I do guess the choice will come down to Bagley and JJJ. Schlenk is in a pretty awesome position with 5 picks, a ton of cap space, and a number of tradable contracts.
  5. Brett Brown being allowed security in spite of an overall record that will takes decades (if he has the chance) to overcome really changes the perception or perhaps the narrative. That is when they dig out, I reckon he will get a shot to see what where he can take them.
  6. Not loving the idea of seeing Dennis lace up for the Hornets for the forceesable future. Unlike forecasting which of the kids are going to be a superstar, kinda digging guessing on where Dennis goes or if we swing for the Crown Jewel of Tanking......Evan Turner.
  7. Standing next to Kerr will do that for a person... That said, I actually agree that with as much experience he has coupled with being relatively young for having said experience makes for an excellent candidate. Also guessing the Lacob's are paying him handsomely in Cali and that it is gonna take a heckuva opportunity. Have the Raptors got a coach yet?
  8. Could not agree more with the two posts above. Korver was very much appreciated here and if GA was not both a Dookie and pretty darn polarizing I don't think there would be any concern.
  9. Given our 5 picks, my dream would be to (of course to prolly most) end up with Ayton and Sexton. Considering how good our picks are and of course having both future picks and could take on salary if need be, I just do not see this as being beyond the realm.
  10. Somehow Doncic's size feels underlooked to me. While perhaps not a uppermost tier shooter, between his size, passing and shooting coupled with the current NBA atmosphere makes me cautiously optimistic. Drafting is utter witchcraft with teams having spent a small fortune on all that entails for years and still it being what it is. If the billion Dollar franchise generally has no clue, what hope is there for your garden variety sports website?
  11. Going down a third rail! Not sure if it is loathing so much as (hopefully) most people believing that if a player were purple for instance that provided it was the best performer than that is who would be taken. I personally think it is the Duke thing which to me is primarily a bunch of folks from NJ coming down to NC and trying to act out their Faulkner dreams by switching over to sweet tea and the like whereas UNC is massively in state. Duke and especially their "grittier" type players have been tough to like (unless they play on your team) for decades.
  12. If only the Hawks merited enough interest and concern to warrant such media concern! Sadly, what little coverage nationwide coming up will be about the legal and should he be traded. Makes total sense that no player wants to play on a losing concern, but no doubt a certain few can rationalize having a far longer off season and whatnot. Especially when Bud made the games look respectable on the whole with not too many blowouts considering the records. Of course, most and many will not want to spend their time amidst failure. Doubly for someone with international standing.
  13. That makes sense to me. Unfortunately, Doncic has an unbelievable amount of leverage over where he wants to go regardless. Even if we had the first, I am not positive he would come and certainly could still make a fortune in Europe and be only 20 when...
  14. As for the JJJ thing, I generally fall in line with what here feel. That said, the rush to tar him with a Marvin compro seems kinda cruel saying nothing that Marvin is still lacing them up. I mostly want to know who we can pick at 3 who would be Sheldenesqe.
  15. If the haul is good enough, I would be decidedly open to moving the 19th. That said, the delta between the 19th and our 34th is no doubt massively less than what we would need to move up from 3rd to 1st than jettisoning the 34th for a 2019 1st would be dandy. If memory serves, as it stands we have two 1sts for 2019 already and no doubt ours will be pretty dang good, but I definitely dig bringing up three 1st rounders as opposed to four and of course having a very high 2nd now and next year. These 30-35ers are highly sought after.
  16. Kinda think we need to dust off Billy Knight and have him make this monumental decision. Pretty optimistic that with the 3rd, 19th, 30th and 34th that we can then parlay that into the 5th overall.
  17. More than anything, we really might be better served not trying to bring in 4 rookies at once. That would be over a quarter of the roster and Collins is younger than many of this year's draft class. If next year's draft is indeed not inspiring, really think either Anton or Doncic might be worth moving up for considering the situation. That or something like Bagley and moving up from 19th to get Sexton as some here posted makes sense to me too. Sexton's infamous 3 on 5 game just has the makings of countless Lee Jenkins SI articles opening paragraphs as a harbinger of greatness.
  18. I too am kinda concerned about how he will translate. He would certainly bring about a certain buzz that neither Anton or Bagley could match at least to start. I certainly think him to have the largest boom or bust potential of anyone in the lottery. However, if I were king for the day and it happened to be draft night, I would take that risk. With his passing skills and shooting, his lack of world class athleticism can be mitigated. Should also portend to a long career. It makes sense that his "team" are being pretty specific about where he goes owing to the importance of scheme for the best chance of success.
  19. The real wild card is Doncic as it is being reported he will more or less choose his destination of the lottery bound. Heck, he still has not even declared for the draft! Here is an article from SB with an overview:https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2018/5/17/17365252/luka-doncic-draft-prospect-real-madrid-stay-sign-kings-suns At least from this article, it does not bode badly for us as Sacramento appears to be the franchise he is the least enamored with. Likewise with Doncic only willing to go certain franchises the capital required to do so will for the intended team should be interesting to see. That is if the Suns draft Anton even after hiring an HC seemingly with Doncic in mind, all bets are off it would seem with the Hawks sitting at 3 with two other 1sts, the 34th, and enough cap room to do anything. Look, all cities have their shortcomings, but the idea of sustained success and actual fans to attend not to watch LBJ or whatever concert is on offer is not the impossible dream. I know it would alter decades of futility. This draft is utterly huge and if we luck into a true franchise player things really could change. Or of course we trade the 19th and 30th for Carmelo...
  20. That was definitely not the most diplomatic ending to be sure. That said, Atlanta metro is the biggest college football town in the United States. We get 70 billion for a spring scrimmage in Athens, but could not sell out many playoff games. I shudder to think whether a peak MJ or LeBron game at Philips might be worth more than a Hawks playoff ticket. Horford pretty much instantly brought respectability to the Hawks. And if the Celtics finish off the Cavs, there will be weeks of Horford stories where no doubt Atlanta while be politely dissed. While during the 60 win season the bandwagon thing was sorta Comic Book Guy annoying, the best hope of course of changing Hawks fandom starts with the young. Had we kept a winning product for a spell, it really might have changed the narrative.
  21. My mistake, I read somewhere else that they still had either salary or cap consequences. Really glad that is not the case. Maybe we can jettison Plumlee with the 32 or whatever our 2nd pick.
  22. This really might be a great thing for Dennis. He is still so young and am cautiously optimistic he could have a great year. While his salary is highish, I really don't think his or Bazemore's for that matter is a disaster. Rather, the dead money for the two fellas who went to Philly actually bother me more. Given our current direction, I really hope we hang on to Ham and other top tier assistants considering Summer League takes on added importance when we are going have a surfeit of first and second year players.
  23. Between the number of picks and quality of the draft, the impact of this draft on the Hawks future cannot possibly be minimized. More than anything, this will predicate how sustained the tanking is going to be. With the forthcoming changes to the lottery at least shooting for 20 something wins will not be as common.
  24. In regards to not hearing much about Budenholzer's perception amongst players, discounting NBA twitter it seems like him being so below the radar is by design of his "team". Seemingly every coach has acolytes usually a player who perhaps did not sync with the previous regime and did not get as much playing time. How could Hardaway not be a big fan for instance? Also, I certainly don't remember many/any articles of Hawks being disgruntled by him. While Bud's salary is high for an HC, it is peanuts compared to the players. Lue was just remarking about the salary disparity and its rarity as the "boss" is invariably paid more in most instances. That is, if the majority of players did not like him, I would find it hard to believe he would be a prospect for the Raptors or really anywhere.
