  1. Most of their posters seem to be assuming they can sign JJ and still have room to sign David Lee or a comparable $10M+/yr player. That indicates they think JJ can be had for significantly less than Bosh or Wade. They'll be in for a rude awakening when they discover that JJ is gonna cost close to the max too.
  2. This has already been posted and blogged about: http://www.hawksquawk.net/community/index.php/topic/343381-well-at-least-marv-is-good-at-something/
  3. The Hawks winning percentage that year before the trade was .692. Afterward, it was .700.
  4. We always got put out in the second round before. What makes you think that year would have been different? I can't see us getting past those Pacers with or without Nique.
  5. Good first post. Ya did better than I did. That being said, Horford is a real center in the modern NBA. My agreement is with your point about reliance on athleticism being an overlooked element of how well a player ages.
  6. No. The NHL's salary cap system doesn't have Bird exceptions or differences in annual raise maximums between teams, if memory serves. Therefore a player's current team does not have a significant advantage over other teams during the free agency period. In the NBA, the Bird exception and other rules allow a player's current team to offer both richer and longer contracts to that player. The Hawks therefore have an early advantage in JJ negotiations that didn't exist with Kovalchuk. Also, the Hawks look like they could be positioned for a deep playoff run. You don't make a rebuilding move in the middle of that.
  7. Let me save us all some time and finish off this thread: Diesel: We would become an infinitely better team if we got rid of Marvin. With Marvin gone, we'd win every game 192-3. The problem is that no team could possibly want his sorry oversized azz because his value has dropped sooooooo much because it is now apparent to every intelligent person in the universe that I am right and that Marvin has no redeeming value. Buzzard: Hey, Marvin's not all bad. Diesel: Shut up and stop making excuses for him. Someone else: I agree with Diesel. Marvin sucks. gsuteke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyhaTQseKTQ.
  8. That's largely because he's gotten to the line less this year. Check his eFG%, though. That's up by a wider margin. That's a sign that he's getting better looks - and it makes sense that his FT attempts would be down in that case, since tighter defensive coverage usually means more fouls but worse looks.
  9. Honestly, a lot of that has to do with him getting slightly better looks with Crawford around. That's why his FG% is up, too. In any case, if you offensive scheme consists of giving the ball to a shooting guard and asking him to do something, you shouldn't be shocked if the shooting guard shoots. This is why smart coaches run their shooting guards off the ball instead of making them lead guards as often as we do with JJ.
  10. He's "replacing" Othello Hunter on the roster. My guess is that RandMo will be the inactive 13th man most nights unless someone gets hurt, though.
  11. Don't mess with a man with no eyebrows.
  12. What are you talking about. You heard Woody. We score enough points. Why should we give a s*** about the offense?
  13. Yup. We need a 3 who can play defense, rebound, and knock down open jumpers. It ticks me off that people keep scouring the leaderboards and try to figure out which high-scoring SFs we could get as if we really needed another wing player who is a volume scorer. Kirilenko would interest me. So would Tayshaun (if we could be sure he'd stay healthy). So would bringing back Chill. But not Gay/Maggete/etc.
  14. Hey, fine by me. We need an extra swingman in case one of JJ/Craw/Marvin/Mo gets hurt, and Mario always brings the hustle. And, most importantly, he's a bench player who Woody will actually play on occasion, which is more than could be said for anyone else we could sign for that 13th roster spot.
  15. We also need to remember that every additional shot taken by the SF is a shot not taken by someone else. So who gives up shots with the new SF? JJ? Jamal? Josh? Horford? Marvin helps us out in ways that don't show up on the stat sheet by playing solid defense, creating good spacing (which spreads the floor without even taking a shot), and not letting his ego get in the way. He's not a "do all the little things" guy like Battier, but he also is more of a scoring threat than a Battier. Considering the number of guys we have who need the ball in their hands to do things on offense (JJ, Jamal) and who need more touches as it is (Horford, Josh), it seems bizarre to demand more "production" from yet another player.
  16. JJ does well against team that rely heavily on the strength of man-to-man D, and not so well on teams that do a lot of help D, trapping, and defensive rotations - which is why he tends to go off against the Celts and Spurs, but struggles against seemingly lesser defensive teams like the Rockets and Magic. I don't see JJ's scoring struggles against the Magic changing tonight. He should look to draw the double and pass it out, but he still struggles with recognizing traps before it's too late (kinda like Paul Pierce). We shall see. Not incidentally, Crawford tends to do well against the same kinds of teams. The upshot for him is that when he's on the court with JJ, he rarely will draw traps or double teams until he gets within 10 feet of the basket, which allows him to go one-on-one even against teams that normally do trap and rotate well.
  17. I think that's exactly what will happen, though. He's been getting the most "All-Star snub" stories. And since there already are 2 Hawks in the game...
  18. Which of course prompts the question as to whether such a trade would make the team better. Since I would not feel at all comfortable with Bosh at C, I'd have to say no to Horford. Josh? That's a damned tough call. Of course, if you ask Raptors fans, they'd scoff and say "no way unless you give us both." Fans tend to overvalue the players they like and undervalue the players they don't. C'est la vie.
  19. Or maybe he could, you know, be happy for his teammates.
  20. Diesel, you seem to be under the mistaken impression that people don't respond substantively to your posts because they don't have answers. Allow me to disabuse you of that notion. It's not because there are no "answers" to your opinion on Marvin. Many people have given you many "answers," but you deride those answers as "excuses." So after awhile, most people figured out that you are so closed-minded and arrogant (especially) on the issue of Marvin that there's nothing left to do but shrug our shoulders and make jokes at your expense whenever you make your completely predictable posts about Marvin. In other words, the joke is (on) you.
  21. Hotlanta, I'm starting to get the impression that you don't like Bibby.
  22. Have you watched any Hawks games this year? Just a question.
  23. Raise your hand if you didn't see that post coming... [Exit, with crickets heard in the background]
