  1. Quote: WTF? ridiculous.....i don't care what we did in the playoffs...noone can tell me that Mike Woodson is a better coach than Avery Johnson or Flip Saunders...which tells me they dont care about getting the best possible coach or maximizing their potential..It's mind boggling that people on this board consider Avery Johnson as an upgrade. He's a horrible coach who made bad move after bad move last year, his players didn't like him and he got schooled big time by Pat Riley in the finals. He's a product of the media which should be very obvious...how many interviews did he rack up this year?As for Flip Saunders - who couldn't win with Detroit's team. Dumars didn't let him go for a reason.
  2. I'm neither for or against the hire but found an interesting link on the worst NBA GMs from 2003 - 2007. Both BK and Sund are on this list - which of course, is headed by Isiah Thomas. http://www.bullz-eye.com/paulsen/2007/0307.htm
  3. Quote: While Avery (or almost anyone in basketball) is certainly an upgrade over Woody I'm just not seeing where he's that much better than Woody. Avery made some very bad decisions this year and was badly outcoached by Pat Riley during the finals. I think if Woody coaced the Mavs, his record would be similar to Avery Johnson's. Hmm...Lon Krueger was a better coach than Woody??
  4. Quote: 1. Nothing wrong but it will be alot better if we got a quality big man to play alongside Horford, then move JSmooth to the SF, and make Marvin our 6th man. So basically: Horford, Swift/David Anderson, Josh Smith, Joe Johnson, Bibby A quality big man? Great idea but how/where do you get a starter quality big? At best we can hope to get a role player that who will defend and help on the boards I don't see Marvin becoming a 6th man under any circumstances - just won't happen.
  5. Quote: From what he is saying..... this is what I got... 1. Woody is not safe at all. (I don't believe that). 2. We will resign Josh and Josh. 3. We will add to the team in the offseason. OK... How is that possible?? I think that means that Marvin gets traded... 4. JJ and Doc Rivers gave Woodson a vote of confidence. He's still talking. I think he pressured BK out... by saying that woody will be kept. I think he will try to get Woody what he wants.... and will probably have to trade either Marvin or Bibby to get it! Unless I missed something.... No GM has been named.. No players have been targeted as possible FAs.. No confirmation that Andersen will be a Hawk No players have been traded.. No mention of Woody's fate.. No idea on how next years' team will look...
  6. Quote: Image what a team we would have if we draft both CP3 and Roy. Our Starting 5 would be: Chris Paul Brandon Roy Joe Johnson Josh SMith Hortford WOW..best starting 5 in the league!-makes me wanna cry a lil bit lol o well..we still have a bright future Our record would have been much better with Paul so cross Horford and Roy off this list as we wouldn't have been in position to select either player. So, the only players on your list that would definitely be here: Paul JJ Smoove Childress That's not a bad team either...
  7. Quote: what was worse in my opinion is that Woodson had to "borrow" something that Phil Jackson said on espn that he said to his players...phil jackson had said that he told his players that there were a certain amount of games they had to win to win the championship...woody even quoted it as phil jackson....is woody watching sportscenter to get something to say? Gve me a break do you actually think that Phil Jackson was the first one to use this? Perhaps you don't remember Moses Malone's answer to the question of what it took to win the championship - "Fo, Fo, Fo, Fo" I might have added another 'Fo' in there but you get the picture. I'm all for bringing Woody back as he's a better coach than given credit. Then to hear D'Antoni's name as a replacement makes me laugh as Sun's fans have the same complaints about him as you guys do about Woody - poor substitution patterns, can't develop a bench, no defensive system (substitue offensive here for Hawks). I'd be willing to bet that Woody's record would be the same or better with the Suns lineup and that D'antoni wouldn't do any better here than Woody... I guess what they say is true...one man's garbage..
  8. If the Hawks own his rights how can other NBA teams bid for him or am I misreading this article. International teams can certainly make him an but I believe that we're the only NBA team that can sign him unless we trade his rights. Correct??
  9. Quote: Does Mike Woodson deserve to stay, and would you favor him doing so? There has been a year long (actually longer) hunger for the firing of Woodson. We plain hate the guy and we want him out regardless of what happens in the postseason...right? Say the Hawks beat the C's and create the biggest upset in NBA history; doesn't that warrant Mikes job safety for at-least one more year? I personally think he's proven that he deserves an extension as just as this team has grown during the playoffs so has Mike. He's kept the team focused after getting blown out twice in Boston, he's made the correct adjustments and has definitely put players in a position where they can be successful. He's out coached Doc - who's considered to be one of the better coaches in the league. JJ and Josh don't deserve all of the credit for beating Boston as Coach Woody is as much responsible as they are. Props to Woody and I for one hope he gets' that extension and would be very surprised if he didn't considering the way he has his team playing..
  10. Great analysis. Rondo was the one guy going in that I felt would give us the most trouble. He's far too quick for anyone on our team and I don't think Bibby can play a physical game with him. I'm curious to see how West or Law would match up with Rondo.
  11. Quote: [This is not a playoff team. Period. Just because they have a chance to make it because the East is historically bad doesn't mean much. The bottom line is that they are 6 games below .500 in a weak conference. When it was time to step up and show that they were turning a corner they reminded us that they just aren't a good team. Funny, I always thought that the top 8 eight teams in each conference made the playoffs - regardless of their record. I think a better statement would be that the Hawks aren't a championship contender - but they will be a playoff team if they finish in the top 8.
  12. Andersen as an NBA starter? I don't think so. He'll be nothing more than a role player - especially in the East where all of the 5s (even the smaller ones) have an inside game.
  13. I think the biggest problem we'll have is that their bench players are much better. I can see guys like Maxiell, Johson, and Stuckey for Detroit - Powe and Davis for Boston, being the difference makers. Also, I do think that we match up better with Detroit's starting 5.
  14. Quote: Many are trying to give him a backhanded compliment by saying it was "just the Knicks." Well heck, why didn't Smoove have a great game too if it was "just the Knicks?" Thank God Marv did have a great game otherwise we might very well have LOST to "just the Knicks." Marv played GREAT on both ends of the floor and he did a lot of things that folks on this board say he can't do. He finished after contact. He took players off the dribble. He shared the ball and never forced anything. He didn't make dumb TOs. He rebounded on BOTH ends. He was TERRIFIC on D all night at both SF AND PF. He was focused. He was huge in a must win game for us no matter who the opponent was. He was great! Great post!!
  15. Quote: Quote: For anyone to not appreciate Chillz game is politly indescribable. He brings everything wanted every game. He has gotten only 1 defensive rebound in 5 games this month. he has gotten only 8 pts or fewer in 6 games this month. Everything wanted every game? LOL I generally like your posts but one thing I do notice is that you dog Childress every time his name is mentioned. What's up with that??
  16. I'd like to see a victory - nothing else matters.
  17. Quote: You guys don't think the Hawks have pretty much laid down already at times this year? I mean that wording may be a bit harsh but still.... there have been games when they've mailed it in it seems to me. I understand what you're saying but it's an 82 game season and every team will lay down at some point. Say what you want about Woody but the players do seem to like him and they play hard. That might be conjecture on my part but it's no different than making an unfounded proclaimation that they don't like him..
  18. Quote: Quote: ...It was interesting that Gearon made the point that we wouldn't have Horford/Acie if we had picked Paul or Deron. I've made that same point several times... It's true. Had we picked Chris Paul we would be the third best team in the Eastern Conference right now (with a brighter future than Boston or Detroit too)...but we wouldn't have Al Horford or Acie law. Thank goodness BK dodged THAT bullet. 3rd best team in the East - with what line-up? Paul, JJ, ZaZa and the Joshes...who else fills out the roster? Also, you can't make projections on who we would have drafted as that line-up nets the pick of a borderline playoff team. No doubt we'd be in the playoffs but proclaiming us to be the 3rd best team in the EC with that line-up is a stretch.
  19. Quote: since we have moved from the old boards that Sturt started us on. Pretty damn impressive for a team that hasn't won jack during that time. Good job Hawks faithful I actually think the fans of teams that haven't won jack are more likely to post since they feel the need to vent and critisize. The worse the Hawks plays the more we post..
  20. Quote: Quote: John Hollinger: I'll go Atlanta and Chicago because I think their deals made them a tad better than the rest of the Eastern riffraff, but I wouldn't want to bet anything important on this. Those games against Chicago are going to be pretty important for the Hawks. I think they can do it though. We just don't seem to match up well with Chicago and Washington for some reason. I defintely think that the Bulls are a much better team without Wallace as Thomas and Noah are getting more playing time which makes them much more athletic and gives them more offense..
  21. Quote: "We've got to start taking care of the basketball and milking the shot-clock a little bit," Woodson said. "Because we're not doing that." I realize that we need to take care of the ball better. I also realize that if you don't fast break you may want to set up your offense, but "milking the shot clock" just doesn't read well for our team at the minimum. W I think your interpretation of his comment is not accurate as he's saying that if we don't have an opportunity to run - then work to get the best shot. In my mind you need to do both - run when you have the opportunity or work to get the best shot when you can't. I don't have the numbers to back this up but it seems to me that the majority of TOs occur when we're in the half court.
  22. Quote: Quote: i was just wondering what all draft picks we have already traded away because we really arre gonna hurt in coming years if our only expendableable asset is chill what about if law neever pans out bibby is gone and we have no picks or money we thn have the same or worse pg situation as a few days ago That sentence was an English teacher's nightmare. WOW There's no need for you to comment on someone else's grammar as it was a legimate question no matter how it's phrased. Given the fact that you're a grammar critic perhaps you can also comment on posts where the sentence structure meets your standards.
  23. Quote: Phoenix has a trade exception big enough to swallow Lue's contract, I believe. The Suns have an $8m exception from the Kurt Thomas and James Jones trades and they are contemplating using this for Lue. Interesting that Suns fan think Lue brings all of the skills to their team that we know he doesn't have - PG skills, defense, quickness..etc
  24. Quote: Why don't you look at his game log for the last month and his assist totals, and then realize we're trading our sh!tty PG's and getting Acie more PT. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/mike_bibby/g...game_stats.html Statistics aren't everything as his best games have come against lower echelon teams. And he has a horrible +/- against good and bad teams. He's still a scoring PG as Artest is the facilitator for the Kings. So don't expect him to come in and run the offense. Udrih is actually better at that. I'm only saying this as I've seen the Kings live several times and he's not looked that impressive to me even when scoring..but who am I to rain on the parade.
  25. Quote: His last three games he's scored 24, 18 and 14. Tell me the last time AJ or Lue did that? EXACTLY. He's also around 5-6 assists per game all the time. and he's doing all this with SACREMENTO!! He is a REAL BONAFIDE POINT GUARD! You guys wait to see how much better the Hawks will be with him. You won't believe the difference. His +/- for the last 3 games -5, -15, -4...so I look at his scoring as 19, 3 and 10. And before you say that he's playing on a horrible team all of the other starters were mostly on the plus side Check his assist totals for those games. He's still, and always has been, a scoring PG so don't expect him to setup other players.
