  1. You know, despite being wrong on the high side, I actually think we underrated how good the team would be. When you consider all of the injuries and the mind-numbing LP losses early in the season, the team has actually outperformed their record by a few games.
  2. I'll be honest and say that I have no idea how our players will handle the pressure and spotlight of the playoffs, but the same can be said for their players. Some guys seem to excel on the big stage while others shrink. No idea what to expect in that regard. Ignoring that experience angle, I agree that the Hawks are the better team. I just think the Hawks have more depth and the better all around players. If you rank both teams players, you'd probably have Randle and Trae as 1A and 1b. But the Hawks would have the next 3-5 players before you get to another Knick. So yeah, I think the Hawks are better. Does that mean they win the series? Dunno.
  3. I truly hope you are right. I just dont trust the Lakers right now. Something seems off to me with them. Should be fun either way.
  4. Lakers lost to Kings and Raps with LBJ and AD but yall think they cant lose to hot NYK? Cmon 50/50 game imo
  5. No doubt it's impressive but it's also why they can be had by a balanced team. I still think they are a tough match for Hawks cuz JC can't handle Randle, but Hawks balance will really test their team defense over a series. I'd love to get home court but I don't really see an avenue for that at the moment. At worst I see the Knicks with 40 wins and likely 41 meaning we have to essentially win out to have a chance.
  6. Hope you right but I'm not seeing it. Could see Phx, Den, and LAC as losses but rest are 50/50 at best and heavy Knick leans at worst imo.
  7. Really thought Hunter was going to be available early this week. I'm bad at tea leaf reading though. Hope it's soon.
  8. How many wins do y'all think it will take to claim the 4 seed? I'm thinking 41 to be safe. 40 might do it, but only if NYK struggle. I just don't trust Memphis, Boston, Charlotte, SA, or the LAL to beat the Knicks. And 2 of those would HAVE to if the Hawks finish 5-2 due to the tie breaker (assumes losses to Den, Phx, and LAC). So 6-1 I think is the safe play for the 4 seed. 5-2 and Hawks would have to hope for some help from two of the above teams. If the Hawks can beat Portland, I'll feel a lot better about the potential to get the 4 seed. I'm not worried about the C's or Heat, but the NYK just aren't showing the potential for L's like I thought they would.
  9. True. But I don't consider Capela an offensive guy. He's the defensive anchor. That's his role. JC is supposed to be the 2nd option scoring the ball. A force offensively. Right now he's the 4th or 5th option most of the time.
  10. Defense was legit in 2nd half. Love to see it again. Also, once Bogie got comfortable and settled in it was over. Still tryin to figure out the JC deal. Just seems irrelevant at the moment.
  11. A lot of rim outs all of a sudden.
  12. Should be Kev unless he's on a restriction. Hawks just need Bogie to get into a rhythm and they'll be fine. Would be nice if JC decides to act like a max player instead of a role player too.
  13. One of the more ridiculous things I've read on here. And that's saying something.
  14. JC been a huge non factor lately. I thought it was just Trae being out but he's just been subpar o really for a while now.
  15. So much for that. No defensive presence from the 2nd unit.
  16. Because they can't compete with a full strength top team in the East when down 3 top players? That take is...........um.........interesting.
  17. I continue to wonder if you even pay attention to anything Hawks related.
  18. I just think there's still only one ball and BKN doesn't have the capacity to play elite defense like Philly does. They don't defend Trae or the rim overly well so Hawks would have a chance to keep up with them. Philly can clamp down of the offense, rebound well, and just wear the Hawks out. Both would be a huge uphill battle imo.
  19. Also, I'd much rather be on BKN's side of the bracket for a potential round 2 matchup than on Philly's.
  20. Hawks missed a ton if wide open 3s and have no answer for Embiid. Not surprised by the score given that. Need to get Bogie and Hunter back with these guys and get ready for the late run.
  21. Yeah, I'm not basing JC's contract on how it might play out in 3 years. Too much can and will happen between now and then. I think you just have to make a decision based on the current team and current situation and then let it play out. To be honest, I'm not really concerned about being stuck with some immovable contract. In the last several years we've seen plenty of nasty contracts get moved. The Hawks have acquired several. Unless he has some catastrophic injury, JC is a valued player in the NBA that will have a market, even if the Hawks overpay for him now.
  22. He's certainly not a finished product. I agree with that. But if we are giving out a contract based on currently established level of play, he's no higher than a starter level player. He's not been an all star even if our own fans see him as such. He's certainly not been a franchise player. So to pay him as such is to overpay. I think to a certain extent you have to pay him based on what you think he's going to turn into. And I agree that we don't know what his ceiling actually will end up being. Personally, I think he tops out at All Star level just shy of franchise player. A max contract for that type player is generally if not universally seen as an overpay. And that's fine. As my first post alluded, I'm ok with overpaying JC because the alternative is to overpay or pay market for a lesser player. Given the choice, I'd rather have the better player. My preference is to pay JC like a non-franchise all-star but I suspect he won't go for that directly from Atlanta. And thus we are left to see what the market offers him.
  23. It's not that one game delivers a verdict. It's more that last night and a few other games shine a light on the shortcomings of JC (and Clint). That is, neither player can create for themselves or really dominate a game unless they are being set up by a legit facilitator. Bogie and Goodwin each had a few assists but neither were able to create offense through their passing to the bigs. At least not consistently. JC and Clint both had to work hard just to get a bucket. When Trae is in the game, he's delivering passes that neither Bogie nor BG can and they allow JC and Clint to feast on easy buckets. As this pertains to JC and his value, it is evident that he's not a max value player because his production is largely tied to the abilities of Trae or some other elite pg. JC can't even dominate or take over against a middle of the road team let alone a top tier team unless he has Trae or the equivalence feeding him. That said, I agree with @Atlantaholic that the decision should be less about JC's worth and more about how and if the Hawks could potentially replace his production. Here's how I see the situation. Tier 1 - Generational player Tier 2 - Max player (franchise player but not top 5 in NBA) Tier 3 - All Star player Tier 4 - Starter Tier 5 - Bench / Roll player Tier 6 - Developmental player The problem with JC is he is SOLIDLY in the Tier 4 range and we all think he probably should be in Tier 3. But to me, his absolute ceiling is like Tier 2.5. So if you give him a max, you are overpaying. BUT, if you let him walk, you are looking at replacing him with a Tier 4 most probably. So if you are the Hawks, you probably just suck it up and accept that you are going to slightly overpay for JC unless the market recognizes his actual worth and offers him Tier 3 money instead of Tier 2.
