I posited this privately for a while. My first thought is, it's not NBA teams' jobs to maximize guy's earning potential. It's not their jobs to lengthen their careers. So why in the flying fk are they going out if their way to do so (via load management and the like). The answer made me realize how Pollyanna-ish I was being. Nba teams profit significantly more off stars than is readily apparent to the casual observer. There is tangible monetary incentive for, for example, WAS to have Beal around for so long. It's not about winning or "doing the right thang". It's not about maximizing their earning potential (by lengthening careers). It's about teams maximizing their own bottom lines. Easier to keep Beal alive and profiting off him than it is to find and cultivate the next cash calf. Then hope he becomes as marketable, fwiw, as the same Brad Beal we already have on the roster.

Agree other than the hockey stuff. F the NHL. I don't think players should load manage but there's a reason why NHL players can routinely play into their 40's and it's not because they're 'tougher'. It's because, despite what the eggsperts say, that game is easier on one's body than either the nba or NFL (which I equally hate but that's another discussion). On the nba, I'd hoped the next tv deal would punish them for load managing and alienating fans. But it's sounding like that won't be the case. It's up to us fans but us fans can't even agree on basic things like the NHL being boring and overly proud of itself.

Agree with all this. Regardimg the SGA stuff, NBA players have grown so out of touch. I don't begrudge anyone for making lots of money but you gotta find a way to stay grounded. Turn off the fans and all the money goes away. They're more than halfway there at this point.

I didn't want to watch either night. I just happened to flip to the game since nothing else was on. It was the equivalent of a desperation entertainment heave from halfcourt. What'd he say? I watched 3 possessions and had to shut off the whole TV. Why play the game at all if you're gonna play like that? Those 3 possessions were all I could watch of the whole weekend, honestly. It's over-commercialized beyond what anyone probably intended when it began. Not watchable.

Stats probably right. The problem is as I've been saying for years. These guys aren't robots so you can't lean too heavily on metrics to predict things. They allow you to look back, not project forward. Not with the degree of absolute certainty the eggsperts and armchair statisticians would have you believe is possible.
