  1. If Marc Gasol was really in play, I'd prefer him all day. I just don't see him leaving Memphis. I would love Butler or Kawhi also, but I don't see either of them leaving their current situations. I'm also like an earlier poster who said they'd rather see us bring back Millsap and Carroll along with higher quality depth.I was really curious what people thought of LMA as an alternative to Millsap. LMA also gives us a little better size with less defense so there's always tradeoffs.
  2. Fair enough assessment, but just as a parting note, remember, many players in the NBA are considered weak defenders but they play well enough in a good defensive system. Ray Allen was a horrible defender but he was surrounded by other good defenders so they made up for it. Look even now at Zach Randolph in Memphis. Same thing. Most people said Kyle was a terrible defender when he came to the Hawks. He's not elite by any means, but he plays well enough. LMA might never play both sides of the ball well enough to deserve a max contract, but the new cap rules will mean players will start making a lot more very soon. We need to be smart how we spend that money. LMA could be a bargain at today's rates or he could be a one-sided player not able to carry his team. The good thing with the Hawks is they don't rely on a single player to carry them. They carry each other.
  3. You do realize he's playing with an injury that needed surgery back in March when he re-injured it but he opted to play through it to help his team (in a contract year no less)? He isn't as good of a defender as he could be, but he's a legit top 10 player in the league and he's proven to be a good teammate. I love Paul and wouldn't be upset to see him back. I'm just throwing another name out there.
  4. I think we've all felt it was a foregone conclusion that the Hawks are going to go full bore to bring Millsap back. In the event that doesn't happen, or even as a 1st option, why not look at LaMarcus Aldridge if he leaves Portland. Everyone on NBA Radio today has given him leaving a decent chance. Most are saying if he does, a Texas team is more likely (Dallas or San Antonio) since he's from there, but would he not be a good fit for Bud's offense? He's bigger and longer than Paul and can stretch the defense well as well as create his own shot. He and Al playing side by side could be lethal. I honestly am not an expert on his game. Just a casual observation.
  5. This might be a different one, but I'm a runner so I usually try to DVR at least the 1Q of the game and not look at my phone during that time. I then get on the treadmill and run while the game is on and skip the commercials. Depending on how far I run, I may watch the entire game (like the other night when I did 10 miles) or just 1 half (like last night when I did 4 miles). Either way, it's a way to get my run on while supporting the team!
  6. Here first. Then Bleacher Report Team Stream App
  7. Does anyone else think there is a conspiracy with the NBA and NYPD to handicap the Hawks in the playoffs to help clear the path for the CleveLeBrons to rep the Eastern Conference?
  8. @NJHAWK fantasizing about Dennis grabbing another man's junk again. Oh Lawd!
  9. Josh: shooting a 3 with statues of fans in the background yelling "NOOOOOOOOO" Korver: dunking (just because) Coach Bud: waving across court to the other coach after another Hawks W
  10. No. On the surface, he fills a huge need. Big man that can defend the paint and rebound; however he would be a disaster in this system since he has possibly the lowest BBIQ of any player in the NBA.
  11. Evander Holyfield has been at every Hawks game I've gone to. Chipper Jones and his family were also at the last one I went to (sitting in Evander's seats that he left vacant when he left at halftime).
  12. Watching him do that has to be one of the funniest things I saw today! I saw that game live and didn't notice him until seeing the video. Too hilarious!!!!
  13. Thank goodness this year I'm a homer! I wasn't on that list and I was drinking the coolaid before it was cool! lol
  14. Why the heck didn't the Cavs just get Dalembert from NY also? That seems like the most logical solution. Paint and rim defense. Solves that problem. Doesn't solve the problem that LeBron's best minutes are at the 4 and so are Love's.
  15. I think Pero also has that intimidation factor that not many on our team can dish out. He looks imposing with the bald head and ink, but he also backs it up by not backing down and giving a hard foul every now and then. His body is solid enough to set those hard picks. All that is why he is getting minutes over the young bucks. He's a savvy vet. Brand is the same way, but I think Bud uses Brand sparingly because his body has a lot of mileage on it and he saves him for key matchups and wants him fresh on those nights. All-in-all, I'm really pleased with Bud's management of everyone's minutes. He's giving some guys enough minutes to feel like a contributor and they're rewarding that by contributing. He's keeping the starters and key guys in the game long enough to keep them locked in, but rested enough that they stay fresh and hopefully injury free.
  16. Part of me still hopes we can bring in Marc Gasol next year to play alongside Al. That just seems like a great tandem.
  17. I think he's got special talent, but let's look at reality here. Unless we trade Teague, I think Schröder is the odd man out here. Basically, you've got the following guys fighting for time at the 1/2: Jeff Teague Shelvin Mack Dennis Schröder Kent Bazemore Kyle Korver Thabo Sefalosha John Jenkins Now, Thabo and Kyle can play 3 along with Carroll, but that's still a lot of guys fighting for 96 minutes a night. I'm sure Coach Bud will play guys based on matchups and hot hands, and you've always gotta' consider injuries; however even if you play 2 PG's at the same time, that's still limiting the amount of time he'll see the floor. I was advocating re-signing Shelvin, but now I'm wondering if that was the best move. Schröder's value will decrease the less floor time he sees and presently, he's buried in the depth chart the way I see it.
  18. Ummmm. LeBron James and/or Chris Bosh. Duncan has a nice midrange game that he's added which helps free up the lane. In case you haven't been watching the NBA, that's how the game has changed over the past few years. More 3's and more spacing. Less dominant post players.
  19. I think he was inducted in 2006.
  20. Thanks for the clarifications for sure. Regardless of what side of the fence you're on regarding who is more valuable (Monroe vs. Millsap) and who fits better, you have to look at facts too to see what the heck even works and doesn't work under CBA. I have a very generic understanding of it, mostly thanks to you @hawksfanatic so I never want to come across as an expert, but this just seemed to jump out as a bogus claim on so many levels.
  21. I pulled my data from shamsports which was still reporting them by their capholds only and Bazemore's deal was not even accounted for on there. By that, I came up with the salary. Let's just say that the Hawks did offer that max deal to Monroe, wouldn't they still have the flexibility to offer Millsap straight up (or more likely flip him to a 3rd team) for Monroe? Why would Korver or another player need to be added? It would appear the Hawks would still have enough room under the cap to take back Monroe's max salary even with Mack and Scott's actual deals in place? Again, I state that I think the inclusion of Korver is inaccurate if there is even any credibility to the rumor, but was trying to point out the potential inaccuracies due to real cap space vs. rumored cap space. You're definitely the expert on this so I'm glad you commented. I really was just curious.
  22. What am I missing here? If the Hawks renounced Brand and Ayón and held off the signings of Bazemore, Mack and Scott until after a deal with Monroe is consummated, wouldn't they still have almost $10 million in capspace to spend? If so, what's the max Monroe can get? His caphold is $10,216,135 according to shamsports. I really don't understand why this rumor has any legs to it whatsoever. Korver is tailor made for Bud's offense and I certainly don't see him leaving in any proposed deal and especially for a deal like this. You don't trade an all-star from the previous year on a good contract (even if it's expiring) and the best shooter in the NBA (both players invited to Team USA) for a young borderline All-Star that's about to get paid big $$$. If my calculations are correct, you'd trade a non-factor player like Jenkins or even Schröder if you truly believe Teague is the present and future at PG for Monroe and you're done. Horford $12,000,000 Millsap $9,500,000 Teague $8,000,000 Korver $6,253,521 Sefolosha $4,150,000 Carroll $2,442,455 Payne $1,855,320 Schröder $1,690,680 Antić $1,250,000 Muscala $816,482 Salmons $1,000,000 (part that's guaranteed) Mack $1,148,163 (cap hold) Scott $1,115,243 (cap hold) Monroe $11,000,000 TOTAL PAYROLL $62,221,864 Bazemore for the exemption @ $2.1 million or whatever his rumored salary was going to be. Teague/Mack/Schröder Sefolosha/Bazemore Carroll/Korver/Scott Horford/Millsap/Payne Monroe/Antić/Muscala That's 14 players on the roster. What am I missing?
  23. If it did, we could've just kept Josh Smith around. At least he played defense and his kids don't cheer for the Heat.....and Supes said he doesn't promote us getting washed up former stars. smh
  24. I won't argue that and I have to say I was a little disappointed as I was last off-season when we seemed to have signed a redundant player in Paul Millsap; however that worked out quite well for us. I'm not writing this season off as some are, and maybe you're not Sothron because you seem to be more logical than many of the negative nellies here, before it even starts. Heck, the offseason isn't over yet so who knows what we may still do via trade or even with some of the remaining FA's. Until Mack and Scott are officially re-signed or they guarantee spots to Patterson and/or Muscala, there are still roster spots available for this team.
  25. This is a valid point however you must also remember he played on a team with KD and Westbrook who take a few shots per game.
