Online poker thread

I play online, mostly single-table tournaments (sngs) at party poker; also, i like 6-max NL cash games on party as well

I know a lot of sng strategy and resources, so let me know if u are interested in those

I also am an affiliate of party and Stacks Poker, and can offer cash and other incentives for new signups (pm me; i don't wanna take up thread space)

Stacks Pokeris about to go into beta next week, at which point u won't be able to deposit real money in yet but there will be lots of free tournaments with real cash prizes, so i urge everyone who wants to play some for real money but doesn't wanna deposit cash yet to check it out and maybe win some money; it's gonna be a 3-d poker site, so that should attract lots of casual players who aren't very good, making it more profitable for knowledgeable players; we'll see next month how it looks and plays

i'm open to discuss strategy or anything else poker related any time; i spend as much time on poker as i do on the hawks

yeah I love poker, but I much prefer live play to online. Plus I waste way too much time when I have money in party poker.

A buddy of mine just quit his job to play online poker, seems to be doing pretty well. Another guy I know just played a $10,000 WPT event, and made the money I believe. I know he was alive after day 1

yah, I play. I usually play on bodog. I have accounts on paradise and party, though I haven't used them in a while. Usually play 10 and 20 sng's, sometimes low blind rings. Got a lot of friends that play and some that work for a few of the online casinos. No, they aren't rigged and they are cheat proof.

yeah I like sngs too

As far as cheating, there is no reason for one of those places to cheat you. It's like a real casino, they already rake in the dough, there isn't enough incentive for them to risk losing their company. However players can collaborate by sharing their hands over the phone or through other methods. Most online places try to spot players that play together frequently but you never really know.

My problem with online play is that I'm a poor college student so I can't play in the higher money tourneys / tables, and people tend to play like idiots on the lower money tables. "Hey it's only $10, I'll go all in on the first hand...". That's why I more or less stopped playing online. I only played at party, don't know if it's better elsewhere

I don't consider hand sharing "cheating" in that sense. Yah you are cheating the other people at the table. But it doesn't win you hands. All it does is allow your friends the opportunity to get out of hands that you would beat them in. Sometimes it gives you advantages on playing position or feeding money to a friend who is short stacked. But the advantages aren't all that big. I've played with friends many times and done it and out of about 30 games, we've had 2 people hit money (top 3) about 3 times.

It didn't take me long (about 40 bucks) to learn the nature of online poker. I just don't play until there are about 5 people left. I only play REALLY good hands until it thins out some and I get a chance to see who the free betters are.

Funny thing is, you think that people are playing that way because "it's only $10". But that is not the case. There are just a lot of people that don't know how to play. Bet bet bet is their strategy. I've watched friends sit down at ring tables and take $300 over the course of a few hands from one guy whose strat is was to just bet at everything. He would have played that way if it were a $10 sng or a 10k tourney.

Here's a hand I won off one of the worst players I've ever seen:

board: T 8 7 6 9

My hand: JT

His hand: T5

Pot: $529

He bet and raised on every street, and I kept calling b/c I knew he was a fish. On the river, I made my jack high straight and bet into him and he reraised me all in. I quickly called and found out I was ahead the whole hand.

I play on Full Tilt and Doyle's Room, mostly. I also play on Party some and I used to play on Pacific, but that site is kind of crummy.

Pacific Poker has the worst players on the internet, and you will frequently find someone pushing all in with QJo against your pocket kings. However, 4-way all-ins are not that uncommon, so you can get bad beat pretty easily (I once lost a 4 way all in...I had QQ and went all in against 66, 88, and K7...the K7 won). Also you can only play one table there and the connection sucks.

Party Poker used to feature a lot of fish, and I cleaned up there for a while. Now, the 100 and 200 NL games have tightened up, and it's hard to be a big winner. The real money at Party Poker is in LIMIT hold em, and that's all I really play there now. 5/10 NL is an EASY game at party. You can sit down with $250 and triple up in 2 hours at the right table with some decent hands. Fishies like to pay off good hands calling down with an underpair to the board. You can play 4 tables here. The multi-table tourneys are good (since the blinds increase more slowly than single-table SNG, good play is rewarded).

Full Tilt Poker is a newer site, and I think it's the best poker site on the internet for features, graphics, bonuses. Pros will log in and play with us normal folk. It's not uncommon to see Phil Ivey or Andy Bloch playing on there. The play is more solid, but it's more aggressive. There are some fish, so you just have to grind it out with the good players and wait for sucker to sit down with some money to burn. For some reason, I've had nearly all the worst bad beats of my life on Full Tilt (including losing quads to a straight flush made on the river). The tournaments there are harder to win than those on Party. Terrific bonuses. The limit hold em here is DEAD...play NL or SNG's.

Doyle's Room is currently my #1 site. The graphics are awful, but you can get a LOT of action at higher blind NL than you can at party and Full Tilt. 2/4 and 3/6 NL there are pretty EASY games. There are some solid, aggressive players, but it's about 50/50 fish. I'm up to 5X my initial buy in here. The sign-up bonus is mediocre.
