Gray Mule
WHEREAS: Major league baseball allows all teams to have 40 players protected, with 25 on the active roster, the others assigned to their minor league teams. WHEREAS: Major league hockey allows teams to carry extra players at all times, designating the extra players as inactive before each game. WHEREAS: Major league football allows teams to carry extra players on a taxi squad, where they may be activated before each game. WHEREAS: Major league basketball demands a twelve man roster for each team, but allows each team to carry extra players as injured and unable to play, requiring each team to make a mockery of this rule by declaring two players as injured, whether they are or not. WHEREAS: Most General Managers openly talk about their team's fourteen man roster for the season, meaning there must always be two injured players on the roster at all times. WHEREAS: Some few teams refuse to hide players in this manner, putting them at an obvious disatvantage over their less than honest competitors. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: The National Basketball Association hereinafter will allow all teams to carry a roster of fourteen [14] players for the entire season with twelve [12] players being listed as active players for each game. Two players may not be active players. They may be injured players, but it is not mandatory that they be designated as injured. Lineup cards listing the active players for each game will be presented to the officials before gametime and exchange of this roster list between coaches shall preceed each game. Gray Mule
I hope all of you here at Hawksquawk agree with the old Gray Mule on this resolution. I would like for someone that knows how to do it, pass this on to Mr. Babcock and/or the N.B.A. It may have no chance, but then again, who knows. Admin chillzatl Posted October 23, 2002 Admin Report Share Posted October 23, 2002 I thought I read somewhere that they had decided this year that teams weren't required to list players as injured to keep them on the IL?
Gray Mule
I don't remember seeing it if they did. Babcock recently stated that he wouldn't "hide" extra players on I.R. so I assumed it hadn't happened. If it is not already done, why can't they do it? If it is already done, then great! Boondocks
Well I did read they were planning to change it in to a 12 "active" roster and a possible 3 "inactive" addition. So instead of the injured list it would be "inactive". They also mentioned some of the lousy excuses for the injuries, one being "insomnia", lmao.
