the problem with realism in video games

This is an interesting read:

http://www.arclight.net/~pdb/nonfiction/uncanny-valley.html

In a nutshell, as video game characters (or robots, etc) become more and more human, there's a point that is reached where they aren't quiiiiiiite human, and the reaction to them is one of revulsion.

I saw a video of some next-gen Tiger Woods game from E3, and the Uncanny Valley certainly applied.

I love NBA2k6 even though I think it has not so great graphics. I think graphics do matter some. Atleast to me. There is no excuse for really mediocre graphics when the systems can handle so much nowdays.

Cartoonish stuff was fine when I was a teenager, but not now.

I agree 100%
